ATB - game sorrows
eagles123 replied to humilities's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
seems crazy for North to pass but i'm probably missing something :D -
Thanks folks, I don't remember the whole hand on this but I opened 3C and they ended in 3N scoring 11 tricks. Cheers, Eagles

I think there should be a limit per day, sometimes Lurpoa you have upvoted every single post in a topic which I think is a bit pointless! There's only been a handful of posts i've ever seen that I would vote down but I guess it would be nice to have the option.

[hv=pc=n&n=s62hdj9654c976543&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=pp]133|200[/hv] Worth pre-empting here? If so what with!? Thanks, Eagles
-
yeah, my p had 3 hearts, pre-emptor had singleton club lead to the Ace and trumps split 3-3

None vul MP 3H p p ? A76532 K83 T QJ9 thanks, Eagles

thanks everyone :)

It was matchpoints, system is Acol so 1H opening shows 4+ probably raise on 3 with either a side singleton or two doubletons but 3343 or 2344 would always be 1N if in the right points don't play weak jump shifts, no.

[hv=pc=n&s=skhkjt432da73cak4&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=p1hp1np]133|200[/hv] Matchpoints so what here, 3 hearts or 4 hearts? Thanks, Eagles

[hv=pc=n&n=sakj84hj963dkt3ca&d=e&v=b&b=10&a=1cpp]133|200[/hv] what is best here pls? I weighed up a simple 1 spade and also 2 spades as I'm quite single suited, but I decided to dbl on the basis I did have a 4 card heart suit as well  and kinda had the right shape (roughly). second part to the question, is say you do double (rightly or wrongly) East passes and partner bids 1S! how much do we raise that by now :) Thanks, Eagles

Beginner Error! :)

I've done that one before now   -
Beginner Error! :)
eagles123 replied to eagles123's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
She practically had a heart attack when my P doubled 5H, but no they didn't go to 6! :) -
absolutely accept that I was lucky, hence i made this topic! My question is how to bid it better? Eagles
-
for a long time, I thought "ATB" was Asses the bidding, rather than assign the blame! Any other mis-interpreted topic titles etc or was it just me :P Eagles

We all make mistakes and can improve and I know that's especially the case for me, hence I post in N/B, but there is this one couple at the club that are really total novices, and can't quite take the hint that maybe they should go to the beginners session! anyway, the bidding went as followed: [hv=d=e&v=0&b=14&a=pp1h3c(weak)pp3hp4hd]133|100[/hv] I was sitting North. West tanked for ages, literally five minutes. Her partner (also a novice) asked my partner (rather than me) what the double meant. My P said that he should be asking me and I explained that it was penalties. a continued tank, then 5h! Eagles :)

no opp bidding 1H - 1S - 1N - 3S 1H - 1S - 1N - 2C (checkback) 2m 3S 1H - 1S - 1N - 2C (checkback) 2m 2S not sure what the difference is between all of these, 1H - 1S - 1N - 2S would be sign off btw Seem to remember the difference between first and second is one is invitational and one is forcing but intrigued as to what the final sequence might mean. Thanks, Eagles

can someone suggest a more sensible way to bid it please: Matchpoints [hv=pc=n&s=s842h8dkqj32ckt83&n=sakqjt97hd975caq6&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=2h(weak)4s5h5sp6sppp]266|200[/hv] We found the slam but it was a bit of a blast on my part  I felt there was a more sensible bid I could make than 4 spades but I wasn't sure what, I was reluctant to X and then bid spades in case it went all pass after that. Also say LHO hadn't bid 5H would P still have a raise in spades/some kind of bid? In the actual situation I just kinda thought it was so unlikely P didn't have a stop in Diamonds when he was raising spades missing the top 6 cards  finally say you are LHO this is your hand 53 A97653 A84 875 do you do anything over 6S and what do you bid over 4S Thanks, Eagles [hv=pc=n&s=sqt9654h7d754cak5&w=shakqt9dakqjcj964&n=sa83hj65d863ct832&e=skj72h8432dt92cq7&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp2sdppp]399|300[/hv]

One, brief direct bridge advice
eagles123 replied to mike777's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Always play with a smile it's not life or death :) Eagles -
Thanks folk, I was West on the this hand. I thought my double of 3 clubs was more suggesting penalties, showing something in clubs and a hand that didn't have great hearts rather than pure penalties. I was thinking about the vulnerability as well, I might just have raised hearts if we were red and they were white... but I can see I probably had too strong a hand to pass out 3H - the reason I didn't is I thought I had already bid my hand - not quite an opening bid but still pretty good. Thanks, Eagles

Good IMPS Average
eagles123 replied to corners1's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Surely the IMPS average entirely depends on who you play with? For example, in the last month on bbo I have an IMPS average of 0.76 (168 boards) but that's just playing with the dumb idiots you tend to come across on the main bridge club, doesn't mean i'm an expert player or anything. If it was to play against experts players then i'm sure my average would be a big minus! Eagles -
[hv=pc=n&w=sa874ht6dqj8ca872&e=st6hakj9542d932ck&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=p1hdr2c2h3cdp3hppp]266|200[/hv] We missed 4H on this one, yes it's tricky on a spade lead but still makeable. Even 3 clubs X would have scored better for us. Is there any blame here or just bad luck? Thanks, Eagles
-
I think "The Bidding Was Perfect - No Blame" was quite an ambitious poll option

Hi, there is no huge trick I thought this would be a good hand for beginners because of (put in spoilers in case any beginners want to try it)
