I thought this was quite a good hand for beginners, I don't think it will be too much of a problem for intermediate and above but please feel free to comment :) [hv=pc=n&w=shqt43dkt6ct98762&e=skt6hak8d875ckq54&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=1cd4c4s5cppp]266|200[/hv] South leads a low spade which you ruff in dummy. A trump produces North's Ace and a low one from South and North returns the Jack of clubs. Plan the play :) Eagles

ok thanks everyone and P_Marlowe, I just put up the hands I struggle with or was unsure with, I apologise if i'm repeating s similar issue from before, but it's never intentional. thanks, Eagles

Thanks folk, at the table LHO had AKQxx of hearts and RHo the Ace of Spades for a cold bottom in 2N - 1 when pretty much everyone else was in 2S going off with p having QTxx of spades  Eagles

Matchpoints [hv=pc=n&n=sk9ht92dakq8cqj95&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=2s]133|200[/hv] is it worth bidding with this type of hand or is pass more sensible? I chose 2N at the table but considered it quite risky! thanks Eagles [hv=pc=n&s=sat843hq9dkjc8643&w=sk96hj742d95ck952&n=sq7ht63dqt864cajt&e=sj52hak85da732cq7&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=p1nppp]399|300[/hv]

Matchpoints: [hv=pc=n&n=skqhq2dakq6ckq762&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=ppp]133|200[/hv] I opened 2NT but wasn't sure thanks Eagles

4H for me

thanks AguaHombre, the one thing I'd say to everyone is seriously this is not a great level, put it this way i'm probably one of the strongest players lol so for example opening 1D here because others might be playing a system that requires them to open 1D rather than 1C isn't even really a consideration as everyone plays Acol
-
quick question, a couple of posters have said opening 1D is what they would do/better than 1C, why?

Partner is Strong and We Have 8 Clubs

Hi, thanks for comments, I'm intrigued though by "most systems 2S is forcing" apart from in 2/1 how do other systems handle say AKxxxx Ax xx xx opposite xx Jxx Ajx Axxxxx with first hand as dealer? -
The amount of times i've seen post hand discussions of "I didn't bid it incase blah blah blah" is untrue, I wouldn't call the level i play at "beginner" though but that's another discussion :)

yes 2S would be non-forcing, as 2C is not a game force just standard acol :) -
[hv=pc=n&n=s8hakdj9caqt98643&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1sp2cp3sp]133|200[/hv] wasn't too sure what my best action was so just blasted 6 clubs, which luckily made :) However 6NT and 6S also made so weren't in the best spot (it was matchpoints.) Part of my reason for 6 clubs was that it's quite a poor standard so pretty much any slam will do well, for example on this hand 6/11 tables were in either 4 spades or 5 clubs, but I don't want to get lazy with slam bidding as I know i'll get crucified in this situation at a better level. would I be better taking it slowly, i.e. starting with 4 clubs to see if partner can show anything in diamonds or was 6C ok :) as a secondary question was my p's pass correct [hv=pc=n&s=sakj732hqt9dak4c5&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1sp2cp3sp6cppp]133|200[/hv] thanks eagles

thanks folks for help :)
-
congrats on the slam Lesh, first of many I hope :) but people have a point that you are in trouble on a club lead :) Also, I have to agree with everyone else that Vampyr's comments are totally unnecessary and please be aware it's not reflective of the generally very helpful nature of BBO posters (as i've found out many times in the past when being helped with issues in the N/B forum) Eagles

Thanks, but just a quick point, in the field pretty much everyone plays a Weak NT :)
-
just realised I put the vulnerability wrong they were red we were white if it makes a difference.

[hv=pc=n&n=sthkt74dkjt9ckt82&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=1cp1sp4s]133|200[/hv] is there any merit to doubling here, and if not what more would I need to have (presuming it would be takeout lol)

[hv=pc=n&s=sakjhqjdqt8754ck5&n=st62hakda962caj94&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=1c3s3nppp]266|200[/hv] I know "play strong NT" is the easy answer :P but what is the best way to bid over 3S to find either 6N or 6D?
-
lol thank god I was south :D I didn't think it would be quite this unanimous though as I didn't know about the never pre-empting over a pre-empt rule :)
-
ok ok I can see the topic was wrong, i'll post the hands then [hv=pc=n&s=skjt872hjdq8ckt87&n=sq953hak53da53caj]133|200[/hv] is South right to treat the hand as a minimum? should north bid over 4S? Cheers Eagles
-
[hv=pc=n&n=sq953hak53da53caj&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1sp2n(Jacoby)p4s(minimum)]133|200[/hv] would anyone be able to run a sim to see how often game/slam/grand makes here? minimum must be 5 spades as otherwise would open a weak NT, I guess 5-6 spades and 9-13 points would be a realistic criteria? Thanks, Eagles
-
thanks everyone very helpful

(matchpoints we're white they're red) [hv=d=e&v=e&b=6&a=1c1sp2c(unassuming%20cue%20bid)2h4s]133|100[/hv] Me and P weren't sure if this was showing a genuinely good hand or pre-emptive thanks, Eagles

E/W are both a bit old and senile especially West so their bidding could've meant just about anything [hv=pc=n&s=sqt76542hk4dk8ca8&n=sk83ha52d74ckqt53&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=3dp3h3sppp]266|200[/hv] should South just bid 4 or should North raise to game? or both :D Thanks, Eagles
