Hi, I really don't get 3 ♠ as suggesting a place to play, what if it goes all pass??

In the club, slam bidding is really really bad and thus it's only worth bidding a grand slam when it's pretty much 100%, however i felt we should have got here on these cards. I've given our auction up to this point. my question is: - how can we proceed from here so that grand is almost certain (i.e. i know it's already likely but that potential 4-1 Heart break is too risky for W (i.e. he doesn't know about HJ) Should W make some other move over 6C apart from 6H or does E need to make the move?? bit pathetic arguing on an internet forum but fwiw in general i agree with Mike. Nothing more annoying than some smart git giving u the run down on how HIS/HER system would've got to a certain contract when it is clearly not applicable to the level of the OP. I couldn't care less if you have a gadget and if you insist on posting it please at least explain it fully not simply how it would work in the given example!!

How about Trick 1:) win with Ace Tricks 2-4 AKQ clubs trick 5 spade to ace trick 6 heart chucking??? so west gives us a ruff/sluff apart from that i don't know! I don't think that would work but all i could come up with! Eagles

obviously you are a far better player than me, but would've thought missing a slam of our own would be far more of a concern than a potential fluke that the opps have 5 or even 6M?

in all honesty i love to think i'd reach 7 but i think 6 would be more realistic :) 1♣ (1[heart) X 2♣ 4♣ 4♦ 6♣

I guess it depends on form of scoring i.e. MP you probably want to be in 3N by S whereas IMP you'd rather be 5 of a minor. MP my partnership would bid like the Hog suggests IMP think south would insist on playing 5C

Hi, I wasn't trying to imply anything, just simply letting ppl know the skill level of the players on the table. Will reveal more later :)

A couple of days ago, the bidding went p (p) 1h (4s) x ap I lead the A clubs low low low (but p giving an encouraging signal) trick 2 K clubs low, RUFF, low. trick 3 Q clubs led!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes that would in theory show 5 hearts and 4 spades for us. (and weak)

very interesting points Mike and Bill, thanks :) I understand about the attendance points thing, there are some players that just turn up to so many events they're bound to rack up a lot of masterpoints!! With regards to the actual hand, nope it was a decent result for us in 4H made, my p's hand was: J AKT763 AT97 Q9 he said he was going to bid 5H to ask for something in clubs, but wasn't sure how I would've taken it...

This is the first time i've played with this player (he's not the same as the player on the ATB thread) and he is most definitely way better than me, i.e. I think he's ranked pretty high in masterpoints etc.

hmm I did bid 4H thinking it was kinda clear, but my p (a far better player than me) said that i had been fixed so i should stay fixed - citing the lack of aces as a weakness of the hand. This was the only comment he made which i was a bit like really??

not really my choice, both ours p's didn't turn up so we were thrown together lol :) the frustrating thing is my p for the day isn't that bad a player, i.e. he made a contract on a squeeze which is quite unusual for our level, just has a tendency to talk complete rubbish :D.

thank god for that, I was West at the table, think it was the first time i've had a real argument at the table, with my regular partner we always go over the hands after and don't comment much at the time. Maybe i should've known what was coming when, earlier in the morning he wanted me to play 3D after stayman as showing both majors, possibly the most dumb idea i've ever heard of in a weak NT context. East thought West's 2D bid was West though East's bidding was and wondered what was expected for 2!d in that situation. this was a first time partnership, needless to say i think a first and only time partnership as well :D
