  1. Ken, I posted in N/B for a reason ;) is it possible to spoiler your answer? thanks, Eagles
  2. North: A62 South: KJ9 imagine that you know from the bidding and play so far that W is guaranteed to have the Q of the suit. What is your best chance of making 3 tricks? Thanks, Eagles
  3. 1N - 2♠ is asking for strength, i.e. with a minimum bid 2N with a max bid the first 4 card suit. Not a big fan but it's what's teached.
  4. I wasn't serious about 6D lol, maybe a lot of coughing would get us there ;) and thanks for the tip :)
  5. w/w MP 1N (12-14) p 987 - QJ83 AK8653 2N is a transfer to the minors (i.e. asking p to bid 3C for possible pass/correct) 3C direct is invitational. 2c followed by 3c clubs would be 5 clubs/4 of a major and GF. No agreements apart from that. How to bid this? Thanks, Eagles
  6. thanks all :) I think i made a mistake by passing, I probably over-rated the spades.
  7. Matchpoints: [hv=pc=n&s=sat952hk6dt5cj862&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=1c1s]133|200[/hv] system is 4 card majors. 1 Spades overcall will be at least 5 card 99% of the time. What best here, support clubs, or wait for the X? Or something different like bid 1N thanks, Eagles
  8. think 5♠ for us would be asking p to bid slam with something in Hearts
  9. would 4N really be keycard here? Would've thought it's "pick a minor" (xx x AKJxx AQxxx)
  10. [hv=pc=n&n=st984ha7dacakqjt9&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1s4h]133|200[/hv] system = 4 card majors, weak NT what's the bid :) will post full hand later Thanks, Eagles
  11. Teacher plays benji and always puts up ridiculous hands where only benji would work :( so everyone laps it up and it's just assumed as standard. It does baffle me a bit as teacher is a good player but whatever. I find it a bit shite but hard for me to overall the god like teacher lol :) And I take your point about how it could help the defence. thanks, Eagles
  12. thanks folks, interesting stuff. I thought it was a 4♣ bid and the more I looked at it the more I thought so and I say this because the system is benji. I.e. if it was any stronger it would be a 2♣ opening so the self splinter would be limited by the fact the hand hadn't opened with 2♣ but as I say probably just resulting, other hand was xxx x AKQxx xxxx
  13. Well i guess you could pray W is out of hearts and play a trump. quite likely I guess for E's double
  14. I was shown this hand in a teaching session, both hands were shown and when I said what I though N should bid teacher basically said I was resulting! maybe I was but I thought what I suggested was fairly clear so just looking for opinions :) I'll post full hand later. System is Benji Acol: a 2C opening would have shown an 8 playing trick hand. 1NT is old fashioned ACOL non-forcing. Vulnerability unknown, form of scoring MP in a fairly weak field. [hv=pc=n&n=sa85hakqt863dj86c&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1hp1np]133|200[/hv] thanks, Eagles
  15. Well as West was asked to lead a heart but has instead lead a club, I think it is a singleton. How about win the club in Hand, Ace of hearts, spade to the Ace, Heart ruff, spade to the King, Heart ruff, and then play on clubs forcing West to waste his Q!s and give us either a free D finesse or a ruff/discard? if he doesn't play it then i guess we can always fall back on the D finesse.

    Perth

Hi folks, heading out to Perth, Australia for a couple of months in late may, could anyone recommend a club for 1- a novice, i.e teaching 2 - me, idk i've posted a fair bit i guess i'm good intermediate learning all the time. cheers, Eagles
  17. anyone ever wished they could delete a topic! FWIW 3NT made and 4H was down so i guess i am a genius after all :D :P ;) Eagles ps only joking, all part of learning process :)
  18. [hv=pc=n&s=sak6h8742da4cj982&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1n(12-14)p2cp]133|200[/hv] I held this hand earlier today. I bid 2d thinking my H holding was so rubbish and I have stops in all the other suits so my p signed off in 3N. I know p could have had a hand that 4H was good but 3N wasn't (if holding 4H) but was lying about stayman right? If not when is it right to lie? thanks, Eagles
  19. I find a heart lead to be a bit pointless, i mean our p has shown the majors and we've bid 4H and then 6H yet they've still commited to grand slam - surely they have a first round heart control. I would probably lead a trump with no real conviction.
  20. thanks folks, I was S on this hand. I did think my p's 4S bid was a little negative but the more I looked at it the more i thought I maybe hadn't done my own hand justice. Mr Ace: what are you suggesting instead of 4H? thanks, Eagles
  21. [hv=pc=n&s=skj9832hk9754dcj8&n=sqt654hajda986ca6&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=pp(thoughts%3F)p1sp4dp4sppp]266|200[/hv] Form of scoring: MP system: 4 card majors weak NT any blame here? thanks, Eagles
  22. [hv=pc=n&s=sakt84hk7dq8743c9&n=sqj2hajt42dakc763&d=e&v=b&b=10&a=p1s3cdp3dp4sppp]266|200[/hv] K clubs lead followed by the Ace clubs, East playing the 8 then the 2. How best to play at MP? Thanks, Eagles
