Hi it's what most play at the club but it's not a great standard lol :) Eagles

thanks Wank

Thanks, it's still quite an inexperienced partnership so situations like this haven't been discussed too much. I am still quite bad at doubles, i've been influenced by Roger Lee's series on BBO a lot, but thought just the whole shape was wrong there: evidently not! Eagles

obviously when your NT overcall is overcalled at the 2 level there are many systems to deal with it, but how about at the 3 level? specifically how should we have bid this: [hv=pc=n&w=sat875hkj4dktcq93&e=sj4ha9753dqj532ca&d=w&v=n&b=12&a=1n3c]266|200[/hv] 3 clubs was natural (2 clubs would have been landy) thanks, Eagles

Sorry, East actually chucked a heart and a club

Hi Guys, [hv=pc=n&w=skq86ha8752d9432c&e=st3hkqt3dkqjt5ct4&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=p1ddr1sp2sdp3hppp]266|200[/hv] thought this was quite a tricky one, we ended up getting slightly over half on this making 3H + 2 as NS had a club game on, but obviously would have been good if we'd reached 4H. I have to say this was made a lot more difficult by souths imo stupid dbl on aj7 j64 6 kq8762, but how would you asses our bidding on this one: I think we both thought we had kind of stretched our bidding already so didn't go to game but should either of us have done more? as a side, what should west's 2nd dbl be here? I bid it meaning it as kinda suggesting pens, but is it takeout? Thanks, Eagles
-
I play in this situation: - xx shows a 5 card suit, asks partner to bid 2 clubs which you then pass or correct - bidding a suit shows 2 touching 4 card suits. - pass forces partner to redouble and then you either leave for pens or bid the lower of 2 NON touching 4 card suits. I know it's not the most complicated method but it's pretty easy to remember and covers most situations :) so on this hand you would pass and then bid 2D over partners forced xx which would specifically show 4/4 in diamonds and spades. sorry struggling with internet to edit the topic but 1NT opening was 12-14

Me and P had a good result but a slight mix up on the bidding on this one: [hv=pc=n&w=sqjhjt92da5cakq93&e=st97h6543dt86cj87&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp1ndr2hp3hppp]266|200[/hv] xx was alerted as 5 card suit asking p to bid 2 clubs (pass or correct) my question is what is the function of the 2 Heart bid here? My p and I obviously had a different idea of what it meant. I thought it showed a hand with decent offense but little defense basically saying i'd prefer to play rather than defend... but my p thought it just showed a weak hand? Is this just a matter of partnership agreement or is there a clear answer :) Cheers Eagles

[hv=pc=n&e=st4hkj63da64ckt63&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=1s]133|200[/hv] Matchpoints as always. I've found myself doubling rather than passing more and more on hands like this but not sure if I should be a bit more disciplined!! Thanks, Eagles

thanks everyone, some very interesting points. Firstly, sorry if I put this in the wrong section of the forum, I am aware that it's not really a novice beginner issue but then again there's not a lot intermediate about the intermediate/advanced forum, especially in terms of the advice given, which is why I prefer posting here. Certainly at some point i'll start posting in I/A as the last thing I want to do is put off genuine beginners seeking advice on more basic issue. I see now that the switch isn't quite as clear as I thought incase I did have CA and HK. At the time I thought with both major suit queens in dummy the only reason I would have for wanting P on lead would be that I had something over declarer and the only real possibility was in clubs. I also see that I should have realised we would already be ahead of the field on the lead/a lot of the field would be playing in a part score and taken the safe approach. I would love to say I unblocked on the 3rd diamond to show suit preference to clubs but I can safely say that's not the case!!

this was the whole deal: [hv=pc=n&s=sj2h64dt643caq753&w=sqt843hq9d852ct84&n=s765hj752dakj7cj6&e=sak9hakt83dq9ck92]399|300[/hv]

[hv=d=e&v=0&b=14&a=2cp2dp2np3nppp]133|100[/hv] this was the auction, East was showing 19-20 balanced in their system and neither pair showed an actual suit.

this was a disaster for us, what should have been a top ended up a bottom! the opponents were in 3NT by East - Matchpoints. [hv=pc=n&s=sj2h64dt643caq753&w=sqt843hq9d852ct84]266|200[/hv] I led a low diamond won by P's ace, then king dropping East's Q doubleton. on the third round of diamonds I chose to put the T under my p's Jack thinking club switch was relatively obvious for -2 rather than me winning the last diamond and it only being a probably -1. on the 3rd and 4th diamond east chucked 2 hearts and on the 4th diamond dummy chucked a club. Unfortunatley my P chose to switch to a Heart instead of a Club and the opps just cashed 9 tricks in Hearts and Spades = bottom when everyone else was in a Heart part score making +++ I don't know if I'm being too unfair on my P or not, maybe it's my fault for not being ruthless just taking the last diamond and at least ensuring the contract is down 1? Just thought the club switch would be kinda clear given dummy? Thanks, Eagles

thanks Cyberyeti and Hanoi, seems so obvious now!!!! as a side, what is the best way to play the Heart suit (non double dummy, i.e. forget this hand just looking at how to play that suit the best way? Thanks, Eagles

thanks all!!

[hv=pc=n&s=s84h2dkq862ckjt98&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=p1h1s2h]133|200[/hv] firstly, should I open, secondly should I say anything now? Thanks, Eagles

[hv=pc=n&s=sajt8hkqt95d8ckjt&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=p1hp2cp]133|200[/hv] so have I got enough to reverse into spades here. I know it's only 14 count but: - likely fit in clubs - intermediates pretty much the best they can be - singleton diamond. I decided the 14 count was more like 16 and bid 2 spades but think I should maybe be more disciplined! Thanks, Eagles
-
this is probably a bit resulting, but south could cue 4S, north 5D and then south use 5NT grand slam force... also as east i would overcall 1spade purely due my teacher saying "when its possible to overcall in spades, do it" lol :)

What would you bid with this hand?

You have west down for a 2D overcall rather than 2H in your original post mate :) -

I'm not sure about jumping to game because most of your values are in the suit partner is almost certain to be singleton/void in thus a bit wasted. I guess if you pass, P is almost certain to re-open with a dbl but whether we want to play in 2D X or 4S i'm not sure! -
1H (2S) 3D (4S) would seem a fairly clear start to the auction but how it proceeds after that I'm not sure!

whats is KNR please?
