  1. Matchpoints - 4S went down 1 whereas 4H made [hv=pc=n&w=saqjt7ha76d98ct53&e=sk942h3dq763ck872&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=p1h1s2d3spp4hppp]266|200[/hv] Where did we go wrong? Thanks Eagles
  2. Dealer West opps silent Matchpoints [hv=pc=n&w=sak7hadj95ckqj762&e=sj84h932dakq42ca8]266|100[/hv] I missed slam with my partner (bidding went 1♣ 1♦ 3♣ 3N - I hated my 3N bid as I knew there was a decent chance of slam, but wasn't sure what I could say kinda felt it was a gamble between 3N and 6N lol, do I just make up something in a major? Thanks, Eagles
  3. I have seen a few players on BBO with the following in their convention card: "Acol 5 card majors 15-17 NT" this tends to be from Dutch players. Where does Acol fit in - 5 card major and strong NT seem to be the total opposite of Acol? Cheers Eagles
  4. [hv=pc=n&w=skj95hk976dk764c6&e=sathaqjdaq85cq873]266|100[/hv] Dealer is south opps are silent can you find the slam :) Thanks, Eagles
  5. I also bid 3♠ raised to 4 but only made 10 tricks. On a side note is West not a bit negative passing with 4 hearts?
  6. on 1 would have thought 3♦ or 3♥ were cue bids? 2 I'm not sure :D :) Eagles
  7. I am probably bias but I think as a novice ACOL is near perfect as virtually everything is natural.
  8. seem to have divided opinion with this one! at the table I didn't double but afterwards thought I probably should have done. It's the kind of hand where you don't expect 4♥ to make but don't quite have the guts to double!! Maybe that's what seperates regular club players and better players.
  9. showing my inexperience here, but would X not be penalty?
  10. Matchpoints again: [hv=pc=n&e=sj5haq9832dk532c3&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=1h1s2d3s]133|200[/hv] 2 questions with this one: firstly do you agree with 1♥ opening or would 2 be better? secondly what should east bid now? Thanks, Eagles
  11. Matchpoints. Should East double? [hv=pc=n&e=skqjhj9874dktct43&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=1dp1hp2hp4hpp]133|200[/hv] Thanks, Eagles
  12. purely on the basis no-one else voted for it and I look like a genius if it's right, I pick a club
  13. sorry I Think my title might have been confusing, i'm not saying I play 5 card majors  I just mean when u play a weak nt and have a 5 card major as in 5332 12-14 range what should you bid sorry if it was confusing :(
  14. this is something that seems to differ massively between teachers, textbooks etc. one week I seem to be told one thing, another week, something else! my question is playing ACOL Weak NT, you have 12-14 points and balanced but 5 cards in one of the majors i.e. 5332 or 2533 something like that. when should you open the Major and when should you open 1NT
  15. oops meant to give +1 to Barmar's post rather than the OP  seems like a really bad system to me!
  16. I have only been playing bridge for a couple of years so this is just my opinion, but for me ACOL is a fantastic system to learn as it is pretty simple: bids mean what they say in general. However, it is not one for use at a higher level: so to say there is a gap in the system doesn't surprise me at all! I hope that in a year or two I am playing at a better level, but I hadn't even played a proper duplicate session 6 months ago so got a way to go! Thanks, Eagles
  17. I was South here and passed as did everyone else on the table. The reason you give is largely the reason I did pass, I guess with a strong NT system you could open 1H and rebid in no trump but with Weak NT either you open a crappy 5 card Heart suit and be forced to rebid them if p bids 2 of a minor, or open 1N which didn't seem like a good alternative. Reason I posted the hand was out of 11 tables only 2 passed out so wanted to check my sanity. Cheers, Eagles
  18. I have edited to be shown by the hand generator.
  19. or should it pass out? Dealer South, it's Matchpoints and NS white EW red other detail if it matters: everyone on the table plays weak NT 4 card majors thanks, Eagles[hv=pc=n&s=sakjhk9754d72c976&w=s754h62dak4ckj532&n=sqt3hjt8dj986ca84&e=s9862haq3dqt53cqt]399|300[/hv]
  20. thanks all for replies, realised it was a rubbish hand just wondered if it was worth pre-empting or not :) Eagles123
  21. Hi guys, IMPS we are white they are red. pass pass your turn AK742 543 42 954 I know there's not a 6th spade but is this worth a 2♠ opening or not? Thanks, Eagles
  22. appreciate all these auctions but is W not gonna come in with a pre-emptive spade bid?
