This happened a couple of weeks ago. It was matchpoints. What happened was on the last round we were E/W and North opened 1NT and it was passed out, result -1. When South hit the table he immediatley said "sorry i forgot to transfer", so the standard contract would have been 2H by North. When we put the result in though we had a really low percentage, as the hands had been muddled up as we had the N/S cards and they had ours. All the other tables were in 2H by E either making exactly or plus 1. So our 1NT -1 would have been a top had the cards been in the right place if you see what I mean? We asked the director at the end to have a look as the result made no sense whatsoever and he confirmed the cards had been put back in the wrong slots, before promptly giving 50% to both sides. I couldn't be bothered to argue as we had had a fairly bad day anyway and it wouldn't have made much difference, but felt a little annoyed that we had done better than any other defenders and only got 50%. So my question is, was the ruling correct or should we have got a higher percentage? Sorry if this doesn't make sense! Eagles

Yeah sometimes it can be a little frustrating, but it can be good at times, i.e. me and P only pair to find slam on these hands: [hv=pc=n&s=sak97hakt4dcat754&n=sq85hqj7632dkt52c]133|200[/hv] I guess sometimes I am baffled by why hardly anyone is in slam/game but at the same time I am still making some very elementary errors on some hands (hence using this forum so often!) Matchpoints, where do you want to be?
eagles123 replied to eagles123's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
thanks guys, we ended in 4S through 1D 1s 2d 4s... the good news was it made! the bad news was loads of others were in 3N making + 1 as the clubs split AKQ/xxxx :( One of those things I guess!! -
sooo many partnerships at the club ended in 1S +++ for me raising to 2s is very obvious, but maybe I'm resulting?? P opens 1S T863 JT9 KT75 85 1S opening, matchpoints, both vulnerable do you bid 2 (or more) or do u pass Cheers, Eagles

I've only played club duplicate maybe 20 times, but I'm a bit of a stats fanatic. I have the percentages for when I'm declaring, for when partner is declaring, heck I even have the perecentages for probably 90% of the partnerships in the room. Is anyone else into keeping such detailed stats or is it just me lol :) Eagles

[hv=pc=n&s=saq9742hqj5dac964&n=skhakt7dq8432cj82]133|200[/hv] dealer is west (opps are silent) what is your auction? Cheers, Eagles

oh I thought if west was weak he would bid immediatley?
-
Thanks, I always take the advice I receive on here on board you won't find me passing 3H again in that situation!!!
-
yes I think i'm too worried about hands like this being passed out if I open 1♥ whereas in reality its very unlikely to happen. I kind of understand forcing passes I think in some situations as in [hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1ndpprp2cp]133|100[/hv] say N/S playing a fairly standard escape to 1NT double (at least at my level lol) where pass asks for redouble then bids lower of 2 non-touching four card suits... west second pass a FORCING pass? maybe even the first pass forcing?
-
makes sense 3H being forcing now... I was the offending south (I'm always either South or East btw ;)) dont have a bad record overall given I only been playing live club duplicate for a few months but still many gaps in the knowledge hence posting on here... practice makes perfect I hope :) Cheers Eagles

[hv=pc=n&s=sahaqjt2dat87cajt&n=s5hk8743dj942c976&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=2n3s]266|200[/hv] It's matchpoints Part 1 Is the 2NT opening ok? Part 2 What should north bid now? Dbl for takeout? pass? 4♥? Part 3 Supposing it goes DBL - 4H or 4H directly, East will now bid 4S. Should anyone act over that, if so who and with what? Cheers Eagles

I suspect it's a case of both as bad as each other but grateful for any opinions :) Thanks Eagles edit: matchpoints, Red/White

Thanks guys, my p chose to bid 2♠ on this hand... I asked him why, if he was going to overcall, he didn't use Landy. He said that he thought it should be 5/5 distrubtion. Imo the reason to overcall on this is that there are 2 possible spots to play, if his hand was say AT854 J97 42 Q82 I would never be overcalling. Eagles

Raising Partner's Major Opening with a superfit
eagles123 replied to barsikb's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
i would bid 4 spades most times especially white/red but what do i know :D maybe 5-3-3-2 is a little different but 5-0-4-4 i think its a clear 4 spade bid? (presuming u play 5 card majors) -
Landy is your defence to NT (my p's choice which I agreed to) It's matchpoints [hv=pc=n&n=sat854hj974d2cq82&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=1n(12-14)pp]133|200[/hv] I know my own choice but P did something else just wanna check what people think Cheers, Eagles

I think its better to finesse Q but making totally contradictory arguments so will just say my opinion rather than any reason!!! Just gut instinct!
-
I would say finessing the Q better as it works whenever north has K AND double bonus when south has Jx? but probably wrong!!
-
I considered 4NT but thought to open 4S red/white first seat missing AKT7 trumps he must have at least one void suit, maybe even two, so asking for keycards a bit pointless? Or do you mean to look if the grand is on if p shows the 2 missing aces?
-
I meant it as negative absolutely and thought it was fairly standard to play that way. I think sometimes these miserable old opps think because i'm young i'm obviously a total novice and any time i get a get board its total fluke. but I shouldn't complain most people at the club are really nice just a few that obviously look down on me which can get frustrating!!!!!!!!!

part 1: what is your bid [hv=pc=n&s=sakt7ha762dkjtckq&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=4sp]133|200[/hv] Part 2: what is your opinion of the 4S opening Thanks, Eagles

[hv=pc=n&s=skj53hkj72dj5cj74&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=1d1sd1n2dppp]133|200[/hv] as the title really, could someone comment on my bidding on this one? The E/W pair seemed to think I had commited a cardinal sin doubling 1♠ with 4 of them, and then passing 2 diamonds with ten points but I thought the bidding was ok lol as 2♦ showing a real minimum? Thanks, Eagles
-
thanks guys for all the comments
-
Yes I meant 3♠ as pre-emptive but obviously i'm not gonna do it very weak at this vulnerability so am I not kinda showing a reasonable hand?... but I guess I should make an Unassuming cue bid instead? Thanks, Eagles
