  1. Hi guys, I know this is probably painfully obvious! my partner was declaring in 4♠ and a few tricks into the contract the opponents lead a club and my partner ruffed. However the oppo's didn't realise in time that my P had ruffed and lead KH. It was a hand with 4 obvious losers and the K heart was the fourth of them. However having been played out of turn should it now not be a penalty card? If that was the case P could very easily play another trump forcing op to play the KH and then he had solid hearts below the K so the contract would make easily. the KH player just put the card back in the hand and apologised but obviously it's the difference between the contract making and not. So my question is, my P didn't mention anything, could I as dummy call declarer on my p's behalf? Sorry guys if this doesn't make any sense! Cheers, Eagles123
  2. after the 1NT - 2C - 2H - 2NT sequence would 3S not then say I accept the invite to game, if you have 4 spades bid 4S if u don't bid 3N?
  3. after the 1NT - 2C - 2H - 2NT sequence would 3S not then say I accept the invite to game, if you have 4 spades bid 4S if u don't bid 3N?
  4. prefer full transfers, 3♣ and 3♦ i have been told are best for invitational hands but any advice on those would be welcome also cheers, eagles
  5. Hi guys, Just wondering what a sensible use is for 3♥ or 3♠ as a response to 1NT? it's just a bid I have nothing for at the minute and could probably be something quite useful: slam interest in a minor maybe? i.e. 3♣ and 3♦ are both invitational? Thanks, Eagles123
  6. just wondering what you guys thought: our hands: North ♠5 ♥KQ62 ♦Q85 ♣AJ652 South ♠A42 ♥AJT4 ♦KT73 ♣73 without any doubles, east opens 1♠ and west makes a bergen raise to 3♠ where it passes out the vulnerability is we are red they are white: so who, if anyone, should double: south immediatley, north after 3♠ or south protecting? Thanks, Eagles123
  7. south way too strong to pass! got to be 3NT or double surely!!
  8. i don't like dbl with 5/5 in the majors and only 8 pts so for me North to blame but i'm usually wrong on this kind of thing lol
  9. trans then pass seems standard, only likely to have game on opposite a max NT that should super accept anyway
  10. interesting one, I think North to blame, surely he's too strong to pass it out??
  11. 4NT seems horrible, why show the minors when you have a good 5 card spade suit? I think DBL but could understand 4♠
  12. I had problems earlier, it just cut out on me and I couldn't log back on for at least half an hour aftewards, all fine now though :)
  13. I vote for 4NT, we've already shown 5+ diamonds so I don't like 4♦ as I would expect the ♦ suit to be a bit better and maybe 7 cards? 4♥ is risky as you say! 5♦ I don't like as slam could easily be on and ♦ might not be the right place and 5NT I don't like as whilst slam might be on it might not be on so better to invite than to force! I know we have a bad shaped hand for NT but P should know this. We are at least 5/4 in two of the suits so 1462 distribution shouldn't be a massive shock Eagles
  14. I'd have led a trump. I say that before I saw the first response lol!! Eagles
  15. would say that lebensohl and rubensohl 2 well known methods have ways to bid stayman over inteference and that's not even considering more expert methods  why is your system better? Thanks, Eagles
  16. I would open 1♣ think it's too strong to pass and surely opening 1♥ shows the wrong shape? with the 2nd auction I think pass :)
  17. I am very much a new player to proper club bridge but would say at the moment my major weaknesses are 1 - letting my mood affect me: i.e. if a previous hand went 1 off i'll be far too negative on the next 2 - not bothering so much with over/undertricks. JLALL pretty much sums up my laziness in a post  3 - not planning properly as declarer: i.e. quickly taking the trumps out and then realising I needed a bloody ruff with the short trumps  Eagles
  18. Thanks guys for all the replies I think best to forget this one and move on  practice makes perfect as they say :P
  19. Thanks guys for all the replies I think best to forget this one and move on  practice makes perfect as they say :P
  20. 1 I have accepted and move on  2 so what bid could P have made then instead? 3♥? 3 ok thanks :)
  21. 1 - yes understood just thought it would give partner a better chance to describe his hand at a lower level but can see 2N better 2 - I entirely understand my P's problem but also I have the problem how to distinguish between a hand like the one he had and a real minimum? 3 - yes played as invitational only, again can see GF might be better.
  22. The hands: West: ♠ A876 ♥ A3 ♦T ♣AKT743 East: ♠QJT ♥962 ♦AK6 ♣J985 bidding went (opps passing throughout) 1♣ 1♦* 1♠ 2♥** 3♣ pass *a lie I know but want to find more info and dont play a forcing 1NT. maybe 2NT better but I dont see any reason to rush? ** 4th suit forcing. I was so reluctant to pass 3♣ here but thought I had already shown an invitational hand with my 2♥ bid? Pass was a disaster though with 6 making!! how can we distinguish between this kind of hand which has a genuinely good holding in clubs and wants to be in game from one that is say 5-4-2-2 and 12 pts? Please help on how we should have bid the hand :) Thanks, Eagles
