Gib has made bizarre bids before this isn't even top 10
-
With most partners I play a new suit as forcing by an unpassed hand. Not for sure a big hand. Could be a lesser hand with tolerance for overcaller's suit. How bout 3♥ hopefully that's strong not weak!? Transfer advances are nice, have almost no down-side other than that the general population doesn't play them, so you'll never get it into Gib :(

Two-way club alternate structures for other bids
steve2005 replied to Kungsgeten's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
All this talk about putting 11-13 balanced into 1♣) made me think. Would it be helpful (as in making 1♦ less nebulous and decreasing burden on 1♣) to only put the balanced hands with 2-3 ♦ into 1♣ and leave the hands with 4-5♦ balanced 11-13 in 1♦? -
Checkback stayman variant in Acol
steve2005 replied to el mister's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
Also, in Acol you don't have the safe landing spot you often have in SA or 2/1 of 2M, as Acol may be a 4-card major. -
Does Gib ever invite.? It seems there are so many examples where Gib leaps to game or slam on inadequate values.

Checks for slam after 2nt opening but not 2c?
steve2005 replied to AyunuS's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
responder is showing a bigger hand making a free bid over 2♣ than 2N so doesn't feel compelled to bid on. still Gib shouldn't be looking for slam opposite a 2N opening just cause it has extras, it doesn't have enough for slam. -
New Convention
steve2005 replied to donmalex's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Transfer Walsh is a well developed system. It has 1♦/1♥ response to 1♣ showing ♥/♠. This isn't well thought out, better to use a full system and make some modification to suit you. -
so right so he looked at opp card. I do it as a matter of course at start of round. Just because a bid occurred doesnt mean I cant look now and bar partner from making a weird bid

start time for running tournements re: subs
steve2005 posted a topic in Suggestions for the Software
when the tournament hasn't started the start time is listed. When the tournament starts, start time listed # of tables.. this isn't needed number of tables is listed by the tournament name before clicking on tournament. if your looking to sub its useful to know when its started (so you can figure out when it ends) to determine your availability for the entire tournament. I propose start time is listed as the time it started once a tournament has started. -
not to insult Gib, but with all that cuebidding your looking for a fit at 4-level. This doesn't help if trying for slam. What if Gib has 3♠-5♥-1♦-4♣? Isn't that a disastrous 4♣ bid then? IMHO Gib's bid in response to double should be 4♠, Gib has clear preference and game going values counting ♦ shortness. If Double was based on a big hand partner can bid slam.

That'll learn you, young maaaster (#2)
steve2005 replied to 1eyedjack's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
No one would bid 2♦ with 4♦. More likely to have 6 which isn't even considered. This needs to be fixed if NT opener freely bids a suit it should show 5-cards. -

Grand - 7S or NT?
steve2005 replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Why even in 7? Is at best 52% and probably worse, hardly a cold grand. -
bd 2 - im not convinced that 5♦ is the spot. Switch K♠ and Q♣ and its in trouble (adjust hearts to make pts right but there was some overbidding there) With minimum hands should pass 3♥, give p a chance to penalize. Would Gib sit for it though. The only reason Gib has an above min hand and took a bid is the ♦ singleton and this could mean p has ♦. Why not pass and see?

Suggested modern carding agreements
steve2005 replied to Cthulhu D's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I like to keep it basic. upside count and attitude is simply better. In suit contracts I prefer K from AK cause sometimes you want to lead A of a suit (without holding K) so don't want to promise the K and want to be able to do it smoothly without thinking about violating our lead rules. Against suit contracts don't need special discards, upside down will do fine. Against NT. you need to signal the suit you want by discarding a suit you don't want because your saving your good cards for when you run the suit. That would be Lavinthal. I haven't played it but have seen obvious switch played against me and it seems like a good idea. Either that or reverse Smith Echo. -
ive had a case where I conceded in error (not knowing partner had a trump trick) or my partner conceded not knowing I had a trump trick. both cases we were able to get the board adjusted. maybe just friendly directors.

Today's contest: who's the bigger wimp?
steve2005 replied to humilities's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
South has solid ♥ and that's what north needs for slam. I don't think 5♥ asks for solid ♥ just good ♥. And if trump isn't sold the 5-level may be unsafe. think is just a case where you cant diagnose the magic fit. -
4♣ is a horrid bid. Gib has a weak NT type hand it should be signing off by bidding 4♥ or passing 3N. 4♣ should be a serious slam try not twice rebiddible ♣ 12-14 pts and what's with 3N showing 13-20 pts, If I have 20 pts I'm not bidding 3N am doing something forcing or just bidding 6N.
-
on rather obvious K♥ lead you don't have the entries to make the elimination play. (I think?!)
-
Partner is a hand hog. You've bid to the 5-level alone and Gib has singleton K to go with you. This is more than adequate support, no reason to pull.. If this was a human partner I would put them on suspension for 2 weeks and not play with them for duration. lol

It's cut off my screen, but it looks like Redouble sets up a force to 2N. So that's why it got passed below game. 1♥-X-XX sets up a force to 2N. Which is fine cause you still have room to investigate and you've shown a suit. Using this method is silly over an artificial 2♣ where there is no room to investigate game and you don't know a suit of opener's. It should be a game force, without a game force pass, nobody is forcing you to bid with a nothing hand see what the bid hand can say.
-
This question depends on your entire system. The people who guarantee 6+♣ open 1♦ or 2♦ on 5♣4M hands. 2♦ can get you too high and 1♦ you may lose the ♣ are just some of the problems. If you open 2♣ including 5♣4M your 1♦ is less ambiguous and you can use 2♦ for something they think is more useful or fill a whole in their system. However its not as safe to bid over 2♣. this is simplistic but is the general theme.

1♦ and if W bids 1N, rebid 2♦. If W rebids 2♣ pass If W rebids 1♠ then 2♠ if W rebids 1♥ 2♦
-
yes the description indicates YES you opened 1N. Surely this can be narrowed down, maybe it can indicate penalty (I know that's asking a lot lol) and how is GIB hand twice rebiddable it has the 5H it promised for a transfer.
