  1. Gib is using forcing 1N even by a passed hand so it's not using natural bidding. so 2N makes some sense over a 2♣ rebid. but if opener has KQx♥ or similar you missed ♥ fit would like better ♥ but bidding 2♥ rebidding a NF 3♦ over 2♠ and going for 3N over a 2N or 3♣ rebid sounds not too bad. maybe not with this hand but with a ♥ honor for sure
  2. It said straight "Blackwood", not RKCB. and "5- spades". Why would you KC in a splinter?
  3. Im not so sure. You may just be sacrificing with no defence and 3 or 4 small ♣ then 6♣ will have little play if you also have Jx ♦. Even with A♣ still not great. Its that you have 5♣ and 0-1♦ and 1-1 trump break which makes the hand. Personally I think using 2N or Michaels bids on strong 2 type hands isn't best especially where you have extra length in one suit.
  4. should duck A♦ to preserve communications, so if p gets in can lead ♦ leading K♥ is bizarre think would take a break from playing with such a partner lol Is this because Gib uses double dummy analysis so Gib knows declarer is always going to drop King?
  5. lead so important at mp, if p ends up on lead I want a ♥ lead even imps. guess people should play intermediate jumps vul
  6. you have clear pass in balance given the options you were given. Even if 1N showed 12-14 and a partial stopper do you really want to bid 1N vul when Gib likely has a non-descript 6-7 hcp.. Gib has clear 2N bid in direct. If Gib is a real wimp can bid 1N.
  7. "CONVENTIONAL RESPONSES WHICH GUARANTEE GAME FORCING OR BETTER VALUES. May not be part of a relay system." are allowed. (from GCC) So it is allowed but Gib doesn't play it. And why you who want to play it unless you have put all sorts of work into working out a complicated artificial system is beyond me. Just bid 1♠ and bid NMF or fourth suit forcing if you later need an artificial force.
  8. Ok but as i read it ACBL wants you to preempt on 5-4 and presumably pass with the rare 5-5 which is a better hand to preempt with. and like Helene_t said as long as you cant play multi 2♦ convention makes no sense
  9. Isn't 11-14 and 12-15 the same range width? or are you assuming only opening good 11's?
  10. I vote 3♣, may end up in 3♠ when could be in 2♠. If p has a real trap (and not just a bunch of ♦) we will be in 3N. If p has 4+♥ is weak and we double will be in bad spot. p could have some clubs and was unable to show.
  11. not saying it would be a good bid but if Frisbee bids keycards instead of 3♣ will find 3 KC and bid 6♣ expecting it to be pretty good!
  12. oh i hate that, i have a couple of p who check 4 but open on 3 ♦
  13. Gib rarely leads a suit you've bid, even if you've shown a 6+ card suit, and those who control it claim it makes good safe leads.
  14. its just one of the drawbacks of Standard American based systems. Sometimes your stuck and your best choice is to open at the 1 level with a very strong hand. This is one of the benefits of strong club systems it doesn't happen to them.
  15. He said his FSF was GF so just bid out your hand with 3♣. 2♠ showing decent ♠ next choice
  16. p has 1=4=2=6 wouldn't you feel silly then. Most serious Precision pairs have gone to promising 6♣.
  17. GIB thinks 19-21 hcp opposite 3 hcp gives 50.00001% chance for 3N
  18. Opponents are NV, RHO could have very little and was willing to play in 3N undoubled and take the penalty knowing you have game.
  19. Theoretically there is no need for 2♦ as forcing Stayman. You can always have some sort of relay system after regular 2♣ Stayman to handle the GF hands you would use 2♦ for. That said, if you're using 12-14, 10-12 or a similar 1N range and have decided not to use transfers using 2♦ as GF Stayman can really simplify your bidding system.
  20. wouldn't be so sure that's their methods, they are opening pretty light. cant they have weak 5-card suit if light?. Sounds like they don't pass much. but would still pass.
  21. Agree, but would add 5♦ being the right spot against the odds and really against the odds assuming this is matchpoints.
  22. Flannery type hands (5♥4♠) difficult to bid and show shape economically. If Gib opens 2♣ it is going to have to GF if it wants to show it's shape. and this is not a GF hand and not good enough for a 2N rebid. (edit) may have 22 pts for a 2N rebid but who wants to rebid 2N 5-4 in majors?/edit
  23. yes have made Q♠ play from that holding, but never had declarer with stiff K (yet)
  24. I don't see why you don't have as much control if you just bid 1♠.
