Cappalletti 2H/2D Promise 4 or 5 card major
steve2005 replied to steve2005's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
thats what i would want to do. that way you can show both 5-4's and maybe play at 2-level at cost of a penalty double. Have to flip 2♣ & 2♦ bids for GCC reasons -
Repeating 5 cards is stupid, but 3 cards is ridiculous
steve2005 replied to ochinko's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Everyone knows most likey game with a ♦ fit is 3N not 5♦. So it is beneficial for Gib to be able to bid 2N with a hand with near perfect stoppers in all suits for there to be any chance to play in 3N. Rebidding 3-card ♦ suit could easily end-up in 4-3 fit as here (yes 2♣ would have been better but 2♠ has to have an eye one 3N. bidding 3♠ later would be a game force. I agree with landayre there is no reason 2N needs extra values. Gib can bid non-forcing 2N after in inverted minor raise which seems analogous. -
Yes, don't hang partner for not having the perfect hand check for keycards. You should be sure when bidding grands, Gib just blasts when it thinks it has some chance.

Been thinking about this. Playing with a human if I double 3♦ and p pulls and opp bid 4♦ if I double now it doesn't show the same hand as 3♦X. Ive been warned I shouldn't double. to double 4♦ I have to be sure it's going down and probably with trump tricks. 4♦X shouldn't be the same explanation as 3♦ it should show ♦.

And Gib will bid NT over clubs and not 2♠ because?! -
oops didn't see the scroll button
-
bizarre examples. example 1 may make no difference not absolutely sure. but why not repeat the finesse. maybe at imps you may want to be 100% sure someone is not holding up. but I suspect this is mp as lycier is usually playing that so is totally bizarre.

Gib refuse game with good help suit after game try
steve2005 replied to lycier's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Gib uses 2-way game tries, so 3♥ us a long suit game try. I put it to you that KT98 is undervalued in this situation much as AJT9x is undervalued in most situations. -
in the documentation it says Gib never shows a side suit. Jump shifting with a 2-suiter was considered a big no-no when I learned strong jump shifts. Soloway have taken it a step further. the only way you could have a side fit would be with a balanced hand. guess you'll have to settle for 6N in that case!

What's Gib rebidding rules after opener jump shift?
steve2005 replied to lycier's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
yes second hand has to bid 3N. Even though it might not be right if opener doesn't have some sort of ♣ stopper. -
my wife plays more robots than do I and she's been having problems with Gib pulling clear penalty doubles, I woulld be interested to know what a double of 4♦ would mean. it looks looks its going for a million but Gib has been known to pull juicy pen X.

responding to a weak nt
steve2005 replied to belight's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
♣ agreed. big hand in ♦, if p has some sort of fit 3N will be there, but if not you still want to be in ♦ whats 2♣ followed by 3♦? -
Not open them! OK I presume somehow you have 13 pts, bid your crummy 4-card suit. Gib wont be supporting it anyways. When I learned strong jump shifts (admittedly slightly different from Soloway in a 2/1 system) you made the same rebid you would make to a non-jump bid but 1-level higher jumping if you would have jumped.

thinking of dual meaning signals
-
with right-side up or upside down you always have a lowest or highest card to give the signal you want. with encrypted signals you often don't have a card which will give the meaning you want. so you go into the tank in order to give best signal. this inability to play a card in tempo causes problems.
-
its possible for north to 15 pts? Did it forget to bid earlier?
-
yes E Gib suggests PEN, W GIB has AK♦ what is it waiting for? hit it.
-
whats 2♥ by opp?
-
agreed. 4♠ ludicrous. if only 4♠ and no ♥ tolerance then is asking for the minor unless they have a really bizarre hand with a long minor then it's bidding the minor not 2♠

Bad choice(s) or bad description(s)?
steve2005 replied to Bbradley62's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
yes but the description is for a normal takeout double. The other option of a strong one-suiter or some hand too strong to double is never given in the description even when its clear doubler has strong 1-suiter. But there should be provision for 5 card suit if other suits are 2-4!? -
never sit for a double when you have an undisclosed fit, even as in this case its only an inferred fit.

Bad choice(s) or bad description(s)?
steve2005 replied to Bbradley62's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Playing with a Human you did good. showed big hand with 3♠. If you have big hand with 4♠ your bidding game opposite 5♠ and if your hand was bigger your bidding game anyways cause p probably doesn't have nothing. so the description is wrong you wont have 24 pts. -
yes I remember sometime it passes 1N. but look at those ♦ surely there worth a nf 2/1? if the ♥ arn't. even if it breaks Kantar's rule of always bidding the higher suit regardless of quality lol. certainly beats opp running off 5 clubs on some 1N hands
-
N has 1♥ S has 4♥ this means odds favour N having Q♠ but there is no need to touch A♦ so if wrong will still make.
