I don't understand passing! How can Gib think its right to play in opponent's 10 card fit.
-
I think bidding 1N after a double shows 18-19. With min balanced hand you pass.
-
http://www.bridgebas...|S8|pc|SK|pc|SJ| you invited its a max so it went
-
So why does GIB deduce that playing 4♠ instead of defending 2♠X? Surely if 4♠ has a play are destroying 2♠ this is flawed reasoning. Apparently your 1N bid showed 4♠ which is ridiculous if you have 4♠ your sitting for 1♠X..
-
I disagree. Gib is famous for not leading suits partner has bid, no matter how strongly they have bid them. On this hand a ♣ lead is only lead which hold contract tight and a ♦ lead is only lead which allows +1 without guessing ♦ right. I know Gib likes to make safe leads, but isn't the safest lead usually to lead partner's suit.
-
Yes, HCP suggests that 7♠ isn't even a consideration 25-27 plus 6 = 31-33 hcp plus a singleton and a doubleton and .♠ length. Gib is counting self as 11+ pts it must be using support points (total points) when bidding 7♠ which might OK, but needs to look at HCPs to determine if off 2 Aces or even AK in one suit. Find out if 6♠ is possible before bidding a ridiculous 7♠
-
Yes, 7NX is for takeout nowadays.
-
Yes and East's 2♦ bid also a misclick bypassing 4-card♣ suit to magically find 6-3 ♦ fit!
-
I empathise with you, its hard to extract a penalty with GIB. But doesn't GIB realize 4♦ is hopeless. You've shown at most 2♦ and might only be 11 hcp. As cards are its down 3 vul which is bad enough, but why that contract isn't doubled for 800 I don't know?

bid forcing 1nt or make a 2/1 bid?
steve2005 replied to movingon's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
If p bids 2♦ over your GF 2♣ you won't be able to put on the brakes and don't have a GF hand. But if you use forcing 1N you can always go to game, signoff in 2♠ or invite if that is your preference. -
A GCC legal transfer opening structure?
steve2005 replied to Kungsgeten's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
not even close to being gcc legal the nebulous 1♣/1♦ must be 10+ hcp. not even sure their nebulous as their showing a suit. 2m not a allowed convention 2♥/2♠ transfers not allowed for 2-level openings 1M I presume shows a minor so is not allowed as a convention that leaves only 1N/2N allowed -
Currently you have option to confirm cards by double clicking on card. This to easy to do mindlessly. I suggest confirm cards by clicking an OK button like for confirming bids <edit>INSTEAD of double clicking.</edit>
-
yes its definitely superior to double at the 4-level that way your sure to be in game! lol

Over strong 2N openings and rebids these items which am considering changing in a 2/1 system. Currently: 3♣ - Puppet Stayman, 3♠ - Minor Suit Stayman, 5♣ - Super Gerber 4♣ - transfer to ♦ and a least a mild slam try [4N-negative possibly to play, 4♦ good hand for slam (4♥ is now RKC) other bids are cuebids] 4♠ - transfer to ♣ and a least a mild slam try [4N-negative possibly to play, 5♣ good hand for slam, possible to go higher which forces slam] Want to use: 3N - transfer to ♣ and a least a mild slam try [4N-negative possibly to play, 4♣ good hand for slam (4♦ is now RKC) other bids are cuebids] 4♣ - transfer to ♦ remains same Now if you just want to sign-off in 3N you have to use Puppet Stayman. 4♠ - would have no meaning, so is available for use -------------------------------------------------------------------- Now the disadvantages are: You might forget convention and just bid 3N Your giving information away by bidding Puppet Stayman unnecessarily, which could occur if 22(45) no 3-card major or (4333) and no ruffing potential. Advantages: investigating ♣ slams done lower possible use for 4♠ -------------------------------------------------------------------- Thoughts?
-
Would 3♠ instead of 3N be taken as fourth suit, primarily looking for sure ♠ stop?
-
it's like Gib is playing completely at random. At NT find a suit and bang at it, after 5 tricks defence has lead all 4 suits.. Leading ♠though is bizarre with long ♠ in dummy.
-
I ran club suit thru SuitPlay and it gave about 65% chance of 5 or more winners, so is good slam. I agree with Jack. you should be able to bid 2M with 14+, 2♥ is not a reverse although I has an disagreement with an expert on bridgewinners who insisted it was. At imps, I would be willing to play 2M as 12+ just showing stoppers and only going past 3m would show extra values. Course this will never happen as Gib uses same system for imps as MP. so were stuck with 2N being 12-14 NF but I think 11-13 NF better with 14 should usually be in game. Im not particular what NT bid ranges should mean but they should in most cases be 3 pt ranges
-
3N bid hand 1♦-2♣-2♠(listed as 16-22 pts)-Gib bids 3N listed as 11-18 hcp with 16 or more pts shouldn't Gib investigate slam? And 11-18 hcp is way too wide a range for a jump to 3N opposite a hand showing extras.
-
Probably only 11+♣ between partnership, not enough for Gib to get excited.
-
I agree, 4♦ call may just push them into making 4♥. didn't say as far as I could see if this was imps or mp, but at imps 4♦ is bizarre

Is best to edit the FD file off-line using bidedit. Bidedit program should have been installed when you loaded the windows version of BBO on-line. so edit the file and make the changes on your computer save and close the file. make sure you use a .bss extention. then sign-on to bbo using windows version and click on work convention card then click on use. you will then get a message from bbo that cc has been received or something like that. BBO uses the last file you closed and saved. this uploads the file without a user assigned to it you can then go onto the web version and can edit user name or my favorite convention that's all you can change on web version. you then can use with any partner on web by editing and using another user name. remember to delete earlier versions that haven't been assigned a user or it gets confusing.

slam try after partner's weak two
steve2005 replied to aleatory's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Might as well bid 7♥ this may be a 5 or 7 hand on the lead so go for the gusto. On non-spade lead have 13 tricks. -
Opening a weak no trump 5-4-2-2
steve2005 replied to Liversidge's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
I think some people are not realizing poster uses weak NT and suggesting upgrading to open a strong 1N. sorry think at most one person doing that and they later corrected I agree with this evaluation so you open 1♦ and rebid strong 1N. hand just has too much playing strength for a weak 1N. -
Yes, in 6-board tournaments use Cappelletti, minor suit transfers and 3-level splinters in response to 1N at your own risk.
-
Suitplay gives 64% chance of winning 4♣ tricks which would make 6♣. 4♣ is forcing (Gib used NMF but would probably be forcing in any method), have to make a bid. Gib will be in charge of the hand which is scary but you've shown a 18-19 balanced so this is normal.
