Is this enough for leaping?
steve2005 replied to kgr's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
5-losers but you have only 1 intermediate T♠ unless partner has a well-fitting rock your going to lose a lot of tricks! And if partner has a rock a normal overcall will do. -
How to verify the Tournament Percentage calcluation ?
steve2005 replied to debkings's topic in BBO Support Forum
If your playing in at least 3-4 tournaments a day with a 67% completion rate that means your not completing at least 1-2 tournaments a day. There is no way to check the TCR other than keeping track of everything you play and complete. One suggestion to get your TCR up is to substitute in tournaments. If you complete (maybe even if you play and player returns) it counts and if you get disconnected it doesn't count against you. -

GIB gains information, doesn't use it sensibly

Gib should cuebid 4♥ to show K not take over and bidding 4N. But Gib doesn't cuebid Kings another flaw! -

Gib doesn't understand the concept of Captaincy, the big hand will normally be much better off making the decision between grand slam and small slam. Getting an answer of 5 KC plus Q trump is ridiculous. The exception to the rule is if the weaker hand has a source of tricks. -
and they will see u as having the same compatibility rating.
-
forget trick 3 just another example of Gib playing a random card that could cost. Look at trick 1, why isn't Gib leading a sequence K♣ from KQJ? to beat contract all you need is declarer to have Ax♣ and partner to have an entry and 3+♣ and for opp not to have 9 top tricks.
-
you cant tell anything from 1 hand, all you can do is send it to abuse and if enough people do it sets a pattern. But for 1 hand can be anything from a misclick to plain bad play that worked out or someone gets a phone call or something else distracts them or just plain luck

Okay, how is this hand worthy of such a cuebid?

13 pts to introduce a poor ♠ suit at the 5-level. I don't think so, this should be a slam try -
Wild Ave in BBO Fast Free Tournament

I think what OP is referring to when he says "my automated free judge suggested leaving tournament" is that when you call the Director the only thing you can do since its automated is withdraw from tournament, -
I suspect Gib is upgrading its hand based on long ♣ and shortness in your suit ♦. This is very bad bridge should downgrade due to shortness in partner's suit not upgrade.
-
I thought almost forcing to game meant you might stop in 4 of a minor without stoppers and without points for game.
-
Still have to had agreed trump, bidding 4N or Kickback before agreeing trump is premature. But Kickback better. Minorwood using 4♣/4♦ as ace ask is just an accident waiting to happen (being mistaken for sign-off/inv or forcing bid)
-
Playing single dummy the T♠ could be an important card. Playing the T♠ occasionally is bigger information leakage than playing smallest ♠ 100 other times. Imho
-
According to Gib slam still makes if East Gib plays small. but yes not a good play. I concur with Johnu just play small, unless it makes some difference by the simultions run (avoid being endplayed, give entry to p etc.)
-
Nice defence by E Gib (not!) trick 2 leads ♣ giving away the suit and the contract. Is only 50% without this play.
-
Don't like 2♣-2♦-3♦ uses up huge amount of space and still miss potential ♣ fit and possibly ♥ fit. Going 2♣ route would rebid 2♥ over 2♦. Is admittedly ugly as this is your worst 4-card suit but at least you'll find 4-4♥. Personally, lacking a 4441 tool I would open 1♦ didn't know it was a Canadian thing.

87643-K4-K97-AT7 Would you open?
steve2005 replied to diana_eva's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
you have to open when ever you have 0-3♥? That's pretty weird. -
Is Gib stupid?! 2♥. Gib has already decided hand not worth an INV so why suddenly essentially force to game? play in the almost sure 5-2 (maybe even 5-3) not the probably at best 3-3 and can only be 4-3 if p bypassed a 4-card ♠ suit to bid 1N
-
what I find funny is 3♥ shows potentially 3 ♥. Shouldn't it be 4+. if only 3 bid 2N or 3N or 3♣. Maybe if your looking for a slam (but not here is passed hand).
-
In others sports there are penalties of 5 yds. for offside, for example. Why not give AVE+ to non-offending side AVE- for offending side. Maybe people will pay better attention.

Do you leave this double in?
steve2005 replied to el mister's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Clear pass for this hand. If partner has any doubt that 3♠X is making they should pass or bid 4♦ themselves. Have to be sure of tricks cause this is likely a distributional hand. -
What is Gib's plan? Gib cuebids to find a 4-4 ♠ fit. Find ♠ fit and shows a good hand with ♣ instead of agreeing ♠. Why not just bid 3♣ and later bid ♠ to get across hand and shape, will save a lot of space. Or maybe there is some way for Gib to make a slam try in ♠ after 3♠ like 4♥?
