This hand is incredibly easy hand to get to 4♥, the trick is avoiding 6♥ but having a singleton ♠ should slow N down. More interesting if playing a system which can show a strong 4441.

Forcing or not forcing question.
steve2005 replied to Adam1105's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
My vote would be forcing as an unpassed hand as I like a cuebid to be reserved for raises which is the other choice for an unconditional force. Usually wont have a monster either a decent suit with tolerance for ♠ or a really good suit of their own. When you do have a monster though you really need it forcing. -
Wile this is a 4-loser hand its a mirage. if you can't get to dummy your going to lose K♣, so is really a 5-loser hand opposite a poor hand. So if partner cant respond game unlikely to be missed.

While your system is nice I agree with Tyler, this high keep it simple. If you really want to find out this more complicated information perhaps you should be going thru Stayman (or Puppet Stayman or a 2♠ Range ask), then there is lots of space to find a fit at a low level then investigate slam.

yes would like to know his bid. only 2N is completely hideous.

I haven't read Granovettors book but I thought obvious shift also applied to the first suit lead by declarer. Is that true?

Lebensohl over weak 2
steve2005 replied to Bbradley62's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Precision 2♣ uses up only a little more space than 1♠-X and I don't hear a cry for using a Herbert Negative or Lebensohl over that. If there is no further competition from opener's partner Precision 2♣ isn't a huge problem, it's just most people don't have practise bidding over it. -
that's funny. a cuebid partner has passed already, there is no game likely. just bid ♠ lol.

3♥ looks suicidal is lucky its not 500. doesn't Gib know its not good to play in opponent's suits?
-
I find Gib very bad at adjusting bidding for a passed hand. Often when you balance as a passed hand Gib thinks you have a monster. From an unpassed hand signing-off in 3♣ is reasonable. I still think it's the wrong choice but not the worst bid Gib ever made. But from a passed hand Gib should be doing something encouraging that's not forcing. I believe that would be 3♣. Having the 3-bids as game-forcing is a waster, it's just not gonna happen enough and often these game-forcing hands will be flawed anyways or they would have opened. However it is useful to show 8-11 pts and deny 0-7 pts.

cuebid 2♠ that's the default in competition with big hand

Another frustrating day of connection problems
steve2005 replied to 1eyedjack's topic in BBO Support Forum
I don't know if this information helps. I find I need a good to excellent connection on my wireless connection and sometimes good isn't enough. can stay connected to almost any other site at less but bbo needs at least a good connection. this makes me think there is more information being exchanged by bbo than other sites which is not surprising. -
The Swedish system regulation rules
steve2005 replied to Kungsgeten's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
its a bit confusing without having the flow chart available. did I read right an artificial strong 2♣ is 1 dot but an artificial strong 1♣ is 0 dot? seems unfair if true. but I guess 1 dot doesn't matter. Giving standard American 1 minor openings 1 dot is funny too. -
If N bids serious 3N auction bids itself 4♣-4♦-4♥-4N-5♠-6♠

oh sacrasm! need a sign! lol!

Why do people play 15-17 over 14-16 w/T-Walsh
steve2005 replied to Cthulhu D's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
like, but not sure u need to show 4♥if p denied. do you mean you bid 3♣ with 4♥ nut dont promise 4♥? -
its a competitive auction, you usually wont have 22 pts for this auction. youll have long ♣ and your counting on p for something so shouldn't need 22! Not to mention the opponents have shown some values, so Gib has allocated or has 25 pts than leaves only 15 at a max more points left for south in the deck.

Why do people play 15-17 over 14-16 w/T-Walsh
steve2005 replied to Cthulhu D's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
I suggest NT range split of 12-14/15-16/17-19. Yes REALLY nice balanced 11's are also opened. With a 2 pt range for 1N you wont need many INV bids which seems to be all the rage. This mean 1♣ is opened as much as possible where you have your best bidding system. The 17-19 range occurs less often 12.7% compared to 15-16 5.9%. I find 17 pt hands are underrated often worth upgrading. 12-14 is 36.8% ignoring 11's. not sure if numbers are right , but their relative order is. -
think Gib embarrassed by overcall doesn't want to go past 3♦. some programming error preventing showing support
-
like this, nothing says u cant have a for for partner just cause they bid spades. besides you have nice 9 hcp this could easily be enough for p.
-
Don't see how you can bid 7♣ now. partner could have singleton ♥. With void might have bid 5 ♥. plus partner likely to have wasted spade values
-
In the original Stayman 1N-2♣-2?-3♣ was sign off in clubs. So Stayman has never "promised" a 4-card major. But now ACBL says you have to alert a rebid which may not have a 4-card major. That's fine but you can still use methods which may not have a 4-card major.
-
Two-way Stayman was suggested but criticized add adding a complexity. I think it actually makes things simpler as you always know what is forcing and what Is INV which is a difficult concept for beginners even for higher strength players.
