  1. Totally Gib's fault has 5♠ and never showed them.. If not going to show spades first should be bidding 4♠ not 5♦! This should show 6D5S in a sane system. Ive seen other people complain you cant show some balancing NT ranges.
  2. I know many at our club who use WeaSel vs weak NT. It was even worse before you had to announce your NT range in ACBLland.
  3. Of course your partner isn't going to hang you, your a passed hand. But knowing partner has some values makes 2♠ a much safer proposition. I too would likely bid this hand, but wouldn't get the chance as I would have opened 2♠, which by the way is safer than coming in now.
  4. If west doesn't have the balls to open 2♠ in 1st seat Vul vs NV. I don't see how knowing there is 12-14 points sitting behind him and possibly 10 points or even a bad 11 with other opponent is going to get up the courage to bid without BIT?
  5. I voted mostly West, with rest blame on their system. West should just bid game, no slam, why ask? East just answered does he have a shortage. But East has no idea of West's strength in their methods, so how is he supposed to know QJ♣ is gold. to bid 3N
  6. yes, is weakness in standard American type systems. Unless playing something like Gazzilli a jump shift is ill-defined.
  7. The only real damage is when responder was using Garbage Stayman you will be signing off via transfer at 3-level but at least there is a fit. Same with people who try to sign-off in a major with weak 4-4/5-4 in majors. But I think 2N showing both majors makes for a cleaner auction and you may be able to relay after a 2H/2S response to see if a 5-card major.
  8. Yes cue better 3S should be 5 cards.
  9. The explanation is -9 pts talk about gross underbid. Playing Lebenoshl has easy 3S bid.Slam is possible from Gib's point of views.
  10. I think if he played it out he would make. However, from his claim statement (dummy high) it's pretty clear he hasn't thought this thru, so down he goes. imo.
  11. It Vul at imps, so you bid 4♠ no big deal. Partner could easily have a hand where you make and be min. Ok this hand people went down, it doesn't mean bidding 35 or 37% games is wrong at imps
  12. Depends on how wide a range of preempt your using if your using 0-7 and some bad 8/9 you can use following as INV. Precision can get away with a pretty wide range jump shift. This allows 1♦-1M-1N-2M to be INV with 6M
  13. This is a matter of style, some do some don't is not really a question of right or wrong, But will point out if you going to end up in NT you may want responder to play it because of your club holding being non-positional.
  14. You need to set up a GF in ♠ - can do with 4th suit forcing Then you need to use exclusion KC with a ♦ void.
  15. GIB uses 3♦/3♥/3♠ to show 4441 or 5440 no 5M Yes when it comes up opener in good position to set trump or NT However, these are amongst the rarest distributions possible and I consider it a waste of 3 useful bids. A more common scheme is to use 3♥/3♠ for 31 in majors and 5-4 in minors which has the advantage that these hands come up more often and can be used for some similar distributions. In any case it is possible to handle all these hand 3-suited hand types using Stayman if you want to put the effort into it but not many people do this.
  16. Could just as easily play better in ♦. all you need is J♦ from partner and now you have danger of losing a ♦ ruff in hearts
  17. Still off A♥ and QJ♣ so pretty bad slam and something keycard would show if you can set trump.
  18. apparently Gib is such a good declarer it only needs 12 hcp and 6♣ for a good slam lol
  19. Apparently 4♦ set up a forcing pass situation. It is only explanation for doubling 5♦ with Q's & J's and nothing else (like tricks)
  20. That's one heck of a K♣ lead. Can you imagine a human coming up such an inspired lead having it hold then switching!?
  21. Do you mean 1♥-1N-2♠ or 1♥-1N-2♣-2♠ ??
  22. Since 2♠ can't be passed Gib has to bid something. If they had 10 pts it wouldn't have bid 2♥ so Gib has a good hand fo it's bidding so far. Sure Gib might have bid 2N but with you are apparently void in ♦ so I don't think it has good enough stoppers. 3♥ is the safety value if you can't punt game
  23. In Acol you still raise major suits on 3-card support, especially if another bid would show more values. So, sometimes you play in 4-3 fits that's the cost of playing Acol, live with it.. Ok, your partner made a pushy negative double on 8 pts, then they have a clear pass of 3♦, 3♠ is an overbid showing 11 pts but better than 3N which just has no hope.
  24. It took months of reviewing video with help from others for Boye to know there was cheating. I don't think it fair to question someone's intelligence cause they didn't figure something out which takes 100's of man hours to reach a conclusion. Yes, your going to say should know from whispers. Well in real life (not necessarily talking about just bridge) whispers are wrong as often as they are right.
  25. Q♣ isn't totally horrible, your aces are in your short suits so opp unlikely to run 12 tricks. But to get an extra trick you need partner to have K♣ or some card they are probably going to get if you cash your 2 Aces. But back to reality, check the bidding, run the simulations partner has 0 hcp, there is no hope. Cash the two aces and get on to the next hand. or at least when you do get in with one ace consider yourself lucky, run the simulations again and cash A♠. So, the only legit reason for not cashing is it's sure south has 5♥. Ok maybe it's possible south has 5♥ and you can get -2. But is is really worth risking getting an absolute bottom with 6NX= when -1X is likely a good score if not a top? Another issue why didn't east give count with 7♦? played 3. Knowing in Gib 2/1 your not supposed to JS with side 4-card♠, so west Gib will have complete count on south's hand. but still no excuse. There is definitely a bug in the simulations, the programmers had to hard-wire Gib's programming to get it to cash an Ace in 7N, running the simulations weren't coming up with cashing.
