Gib shows 6S5H when has 6H5S and P pref H
steve2005 replied to steve2005's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
How could it be using different version of Gib is in a regular tournament not an instant. It's clear when there is interference it gets it right. With no interference it is making the 2nd best call as you said, perhaps to conserve bidding space, but that is a bug. When you have a hand that clearly describes your hand 3♥ you make it you don't conserve bidding space. I have to wonder if the description of the bid is different then the definition Gib is using, it must be hard to keep this consistent when changes are made -
Gib shows 6S5H when has 6H5S and P pref H
steve2005 replied to steve2005's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Weird if Gib gets interference it makes right bid "3♥" but left in the clear it deviates with "2♠" With humans interference is what usually causes them to go off the rail, a clear path they do ok. -
Blows Michaels Gib Micheals with 6♥5♠partner shows preference and Gib starts bidding spades like that will be a better spot. This was replicated against several players. 4♥ makes 4♠ requires some help in a 5-2 instead of a 6-3 fit. Even the description Gib has shown 6+♠.

Any reason not to correct to 7N?

Could still stop in 5N, perhaps even 5 of suit, but that would be stopping on a dime. So, I think if your using 5♣ as super-Gerber then you have a big hand.
-
how can Gib bid 4♠? If it's going to make a stupid bid it should be 4♦ there is a fit. no fit in ♠. and why isn't this doubled?
-
The description of Gib's 3♣ bid is ridiculous. Says 2-4♣. Do you mean Gib will bid 3♣ on 2♣. Crazy.
-
Another thing why is Gib bidding 4♣ with 8 points balanced with a ratty club suit. Should be just bidding 3N and offering a choice of games.
-
If Gib's programming has bidding 6N over 6♥ as a grand slam try I would truly be shocked and be willing to pay a $1 to the swear jar. The fact is 7♥ will likely have almost no play opposite a 2N opening and even if there is a play will have to find Q♥, so horrible. I got a feeling that Gib's simulations using double dummy analysis always finds the Q so not a problem for Gib. 6N will show up as showing a certain range and distribution not as a slam try.
-
For a human this would be true. to put it in chess terms 3♠ has to be in the opening book (or convention book) in this sequence. It is not! So, Gib determines what 3♠ means in competition just like any other competitive hand. It does not get the use of the Lebensohl convention after interference.

GIB should bid something more often on takeout doubles at level 3
steve2005 replied to AyunuS's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Yes why does Gib want to defend with 8-card fit and K♠? -
extra point for all hcp in 2 suits, the concentration of strength in ♠ is very helpful

What's partner's double showing here?
steve2005 replied to el mister's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
Partner could have as much as 14 pts with diamond strength, not enough to overcall 1N, wrong shape for takeout X and no suit to bid. -
Ok Systematically Gib has decided this is worth an invitational bid. So, it starts with Lebensohl intending to bid 3♠. But there is further interference and there is no entry in Gib's bidding system. So, Gib has to make a bid on it's general principle. I am surmising that Gib doesn't meet the requirement's for a 3♠ bid at this point. This sort of situation arises in other situations. The one I find most embarrassing is with 6 minor and 5 major Gib opens 1m planning on reversing but latter doesn't have enough to make a reverse and the major suit is lost.

You can run out of space pretty easy trying to get all your cue-bids in starting at 3♠ and still being able to stop in 4M if correct.

There has to be a better way. I just subbed in with about 6 or 7 cards left. I was able to see last trick so knew trump had been pulled but that's it. There was 3 suits in play and I had no idea what was good or outstanding. I was just playing random cards. Surely a robot would do better. Maybe let you see the cards played, I know that's possible when kibitzing, but this still won't tell you if you've taken a finesse that works etc.

I open two clubs and partner jumps to five, but...
steve2005 replied to Lovera's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
you get 8 losers if you have no major suit fit then all your small major cards are possible losers. sure loser count better with 1 suiter but say you have a nice non-solid suit if not a fit your gonna lose cards not counted as losers in LC. now if you have a 7+card solid or semi-solid suit youll have 8 or 9 winners which what matters, yes by coincidence youll have 4 losers but its the quick tricks which matter -

steve2005 replied to Lovera's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
Loser count is not a good method for determining weather to open 2♣. Loser count works only if you have found a fit. Look, here you didn't find your fit are playing clubs your hand is 8 losers, If you can pull trump and set up hearts you have 7 tricks and 5 losers. Not exactly great. Opening 2♣ makes it hard to find your fit which you so desperately need, Open 1♠ and you will likely find ♥'s -
Inheriting the board results of the person subbed
steve2005 replied to Gazumper's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
The results don't affect your BBO results they only apply for that tourney. I sub a lot and have come 1st overall in ACBL speedballs twice as sub starting with scores less than 40%. Your lucky to start at 40% lol. No that doesn't happen often, but even after a few horrid results you can still place high. I think this is a lesson for partners who dump partners after 1 or 2 bad results. -
It's been a while since I saw one of these
steve2005 replied to 1eyedjack's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
I just don't get it. To solve Gib not leading Ace against 7N programmers put in code to force Gib to lead ace. They never did fix the problem in the simulation. So, again the bug in the simulation rears it's ugly head. The question is why does the simulation miss the obvious play to take the setting trick? Does this happen in lower contracts, say 3N, and Gib doesn't cash the setting trick? This is embarrassing for a program that claims to have good defensive sense. Certainly whenever it is brought up that Gib wont lead a suit bid and even rebid and even raised, we are told Gib knows what it's doing. -
Yes I had same problem I have 2 users on this computer which is actually Window 10 Pro. Peculiarly only had problem with 1 of the users, other works fine. I fixed by using tools->compatibility view for bbo site more bizarre edge has the same problem and flash is built-in so don't understand how it doesn't work/
-
The number has to do with points meaning of numbers Points on BBO just like ACBL may have nothing to with your level. You can accumulate thousands of points just by playing for 30+ years. Doesn't mean your any good.

Gib jumps to or raises to 5 of a major all the time. I don't believe this is defined in the specs so impossible to say if it follows Root but I doubt it. Following a very old book I doubt will be looked upon favorably. I find often these jumps by Gib to 5M are unnecessary and lacking values for a slam try.
-
I disagree with other posters. This agreement is specifically allowed with 2♦ as a 3-suiter. It would have to promise 10+ pts. Now you would have to put some more restrictions, I doubt 7♠3♥3♦0♣ would be considered a 3-suiter but being the GCC doesn't define a 3-suiter who knows. Also 3334 would not be a 3-suiter, so you would have to put a max on number of clubs.

extras but no clear direction
