  1. I liked it long ago when you didn't have to alert Strong or Acol 2's in ACBL Playing against a pair who preyed on little old ladies and came into auctions on air knowing they wouldn't dare double them. So I opened an Acol 2D they stepped in and partner hammered them.
  2. The problem with Precision isn't uncontested auctions it's contested auctions especially with 16-20 balanced or 15-20 balanced if you open 15's. One solution which is basically the same as the OP is to use 1N=16-18 and 2N=19-20 and allow upgrades for good 15's or really great 18's. Now if opps interfere opener can show 21+ balanced and possibly collect a nice penalty or bid to normal contract. Just have to put up with the other changes necessary for these methods.
  3. Opening more often is a valid reason and major reason for he initial increase in popularity of 15-17 1N bids. Also, it fit with opening min balanced hands on 12-14. Now, many people open min balanced hands on 11-13, so 14-16 makes more sense. Again increased probability of opening 1N is an advantage. But having your NT ladder being nice should not be the ultimate goal of your NT ranges. It's how your NT bid fits in with the rest of your system that counts. I won't go into details, most people don't look at their system as a whole when deciding their NT ranges, but their can be valid reasons why a NT range can fit into your system without having a high probability of opening or a nice NT ladder. What NT range is best for you depends on what is best in your system, not what has higher probability.
  4. The importance of your opening 1N range is overrated. Almost any method is playable. What is more important is how your NT range fits into the rest of your system. Precision is quite willing to the use of a 2D bid just fill a whole in there system, I see no reason why you shouldn't be willing to adjust your 1N range if it improves your system as a whole. A lot of people use 1C for one balanced range and 1D for another range. Romex doesn't even use a natural 1N bid, instead uses 1N as a strong forcing bid.
  5. Lets see. In ACBL you announce transfers and alert artificial meanings for 2♦, 2♥ and 2♠. So your supposed to alert natural 2♦, 2♥ and 2♠. I don't think so. What your basically saying is you have to alert or announce all bids which completely defeats the purpose of alerting.
  6. I have a new asus windows 10 - no problem maybe you could post a screen shot
  7. On Bridgewinners Yuan Shen is doing a series on Gazzilli (a variation) introduction description exploration I think there will be one more part coming
  8. Over 2N and all you think you need to know is aces could use Super-Gerber 5C
  9. The real problem is the redouble. If opener thinks redouble is a bust then any bid is pretty well non-forcing, so hard to get to slam or punish opponents. Worse opener could pass even 2N and not even in game.
  10. If you want to really go wild you can use puppets and transfers of 2H & 2S - ill just give for 2S 2N-puppet to 3C .......3C-forced ------------ 3D-singleton ask .................3H- C & H ..................3S INV with C side 3C - transfer to D .......... latter bidding 3S is INV with D side ...........other suit bids forcing 3D transfer to H you get the idea 3H transfer to S INV+ 3S - preemptive
  11. BBO has 2 strengths of robots Basic and Advanced The advanced robot looks at many more hands before deciding an action and is much stronger. Ive never seen the stand alone GIB, but I would suspect it would be capable of looking at more hands than the Basic robot so would be better then those.
  12. One method would be as an asking bid for suit bid, looking for slam if opener has a control in that suit. Responding with steps depending on if and what control you have. Yes 3♠ or 4♥ would still be asking bids. You have to bid 3♥ forcing at lower level to play in 4♥
  13. At matchpoints most anything might work. But the big danger is -2 doubled for 300 for a dead bottom. The opponent do known their strength and don't have a fit.
  14. Actually, the standard meaning is the other way round but East has 12 points West open 2♣. East should not be stopping short of slam. I would suggest bidding 2N and not stopping short of slam if not sure what XX means.
  15. Always been interested by Canape in conjunction with a strong club. The people who advocate are very strong believers. I just can't get my head around and have tried. I've even played 4-card majors successfully but I cant Canape.
  16. Give your partner some credit. If they bid 1♠ they don't have a takeout double despite likely being short in clubs. So they either don't have right shape or not enough points or both. 3N is fine, you cant be precise here. Sure it might fail but that's bridge.
  17. While I would agree with punting 3N, I would not be surprised to go down. Your void in partner's ♠ and partner could be void in ♣. This hand could be a nightmare especially against someone playing Acol..
  18. This hardly risk free. Your aiming to get to 3♥. 4♥ is 1 higher and more likely to get doubled.
  19. they're screwed. no realistic way he can't bar partner.
  20. I thought I remembered it being fixed but couldn't find it. Searching the forum this problem certainly has been around for a very long time. If it hasn't been fixed it should be a priority to fix.
  21. no often we get bad results if she raise lol
  22. I have done such a psyche lots of times and had it done against me many times. Is easy to defend against you need 2♠ X to be penalty and you will expose psyche If your double is takeout your letting people walk all over you
  23. The penalty double in some ways has gone the way of the dodo. Everything is takeout. I always thought it would be good to make change to the rules to allow 3 separate bids: takeout double, penalty double and other doubles.
  24. Minor Suit Stayman is a possible meaning that would fit. But I still like it as takeout with 0-1 ♠ usually 1444, 13(45) or 14(53) but not limited to.
