Is BBOSkill site down?
steve2005 replied to doxa1998's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
bboskill will always be dead it used up way too much bbo resources when it was calculating ratings -
points smoints if opp have a couple voids or singletons or a long side suit your points will dissappear
-
As opposed to Standard American which is ill defined. Hideous Hog, "but I know Standard American and what better reason could I have for playing Precision?"

Opening 1NT range
steve2005 replied to ldrews's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Is allowed. acbl GCC so you know where to go next time you have gcc question. under disallowed "CONVENTIONAL RESPONSES, REBIDS AND A CONVENTIONAL DEFENSE TO AN OPPONENT'S CONVENTIONAL DEFENSE after natural no trump opening bids or overcalls with a lower limit of fewer than 10 HCP or with a range of greater than 5 HCP" so 11-15 ok but anything wider you can play but aren't allowed conventions like Stayman and transfers -
News flash: Helene right - Gib wrong. Person using KC is Captain. Gib has no concept of Captaincy.
-
If partner has outside ace and KQ♣ you have nine top If partner has outside King or worse you either have 5 top losers in the majors or on a ♦ lead or possibly switch for -1
-
The only advantage to 1430 over is when ♥ is trump, responder has 1KC and you need to find out about Q♥. Playing 1430 responder has bid 5♣ you bid 5♦ to ask about Q. Playing 3014 responder bids 5♦ and you cant ask for Q. I think Kantar in his book suggests playing 3014 if the weaker hand is asking, but that's just asking for a mix-up.

You could give a plus 1 to the reply. Near bottom right in green.

Does GIB understand lead-directing doubles?
steve2005 replied to helene_t's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Gib does not understand the concept of lead directing bids. Plus it doesn't understand it's a good idea, even if bid and rebid, to lead your partner's suit especially at NT. -
Is a Precision 1♠ opening max 15 hcp. Not liking my chances, will wait for 4♥.
-
Sequences like that are why 2/1 is better. Not perfect just better.
-
your misreading it there is a period end of sentence. so must be GF. Additionally cant be part of a relay system. (even if GF)
-
As Blackshoe said 2♣ needs to be GF if you want it to be artificial in ACBLland under GCC. ACBL in its infinite wisdom doesn't allow Drury type bids after 1st/2nd seat opening.

robot is not bidding suit length correctly
steve2005 replied to goffster's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
robot doesn't handle 65 hands well bids 6 card suit then often doesn't even bid the 5-card suit cause suddenly chickens out and thinks it doesn't have enough to reverse. At least Gib bid second once. but it should keep going yes. -
Also, It means when opp come in and opener doubles they are 20+ (or 21+/22+ depending on your 2NT range) and you may be able to collect a serious penalty.
-
other option if your VERY BRAVE LOL 1N=15-17 2N=18-19 will be hard to double but going down can still be a disaster
-
Your off AK♥so keycard won't tell you if your off 2 cashing ♥. With a human I would bid 3♣ and start cuebidding. This is a waste of time with GIB as they won't cuebid K♥ only A♥. If your lucky they will take over and keycard. Good luck trying a scientific auction with GIB.

If your main concern is taking 16-19 balanced out of 1♣ one possible solution: 1N=15-17, 2♦=18-19 bal Mexican and 2N=20-21 The only thing you give up is your 1♦=0+♦ as your opening 4414, 4315, 3415, 4405. People have done this not me, so I can't say how it works out.

Choosing between 1H, 2C, or 2NT
steve2005 replied to bravejason's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
1♥- if passed out you probably haven't missed game. Also, remember even if partner has 2♥ there is still a 32% chance for trump loser. If partner has 0-1 trump you have sure losers. AKQxxx isn't solid. -
Yes, I am aware of this. But Revision found a way to show 5-card majors and other ways to show 44441 or 4M5m longer. This was a major point in Revision and he just removed it. I wondered why? after 1♣-1♦-1♥ your playing your 2/1 GF system adjusted for pts. but 1♠ is 4♠ weak NF and 2♠ is GF Also over 1♣-1♦-1♠ you use 2/1 GF system I think it is a major point to Revision not to be thrown out lightly.
-
I don't understand why 4 card majors that have longer minor are included in 1♣-1♦-1M Revision's idea is to basically use your standard 2/1 GF system at this point which I think is brilliant and a major point to the system. Allowing 4-card majors defeats the whole purpose. You have 2 ways in Revision to show 4M5+m: Ive omitted + from below 1♣:1♦-1N (♣)-bid-2M = 4M5♣ 1♣:1♦-2♣ (♦)-bid-2M = 4M5♦ big hands 1♣-1♦-3M=4M5♦ GF 1♣-1♦-3♣=GF now 3♦ asks for 4M Additionally if a real minimum you can just show the minor. And if you use Kokish 2♥ your can use 1♣-1♦-2♦ for 4441 hands. Now you guarantee 5M after 1♣-1♦-1M

The Original Revision by Montgomery used a 1N range of 16-18 and 2N 19-20 Now good 15s were included in 1N, so 1D/1M if balanced were 12- an indifferent 15 which is more manageable. I think some balanced 12 hcp hands are even passed but I wouldn't go that far lol. Good 18's were upgraded to 2N, this is kinda brave. But also bad 19's could be downgraded to 1N.
