  1. If you have 4-card raises and splinter covered about the only thing left is some sort of natural pre-emptive freak. Your choice as to weak, semi-solid or solid.
  2. It makes more sense to have 1♥-3♠ and 1♠-3N to be the weak splinter that way with no slam interest can sign-off without revealing splinter or allowing a free double to suggest a sacrifice There is also a trick which allows 1♠-4♥ to be natural Use 1♠-4♣ as either club or heart splinter which you can relay for if needed.
  3. Pass 8 loser hand mostly Quacks, partner needs perfect hand for any play of game
  4. Using 3♠ for 5♠4♥ is a waste. The standard puppet Stayman you can't show this hand so look for a different version. Using for a long minor while possible is looking for a small target playing in 4m when 2N fails. More useful use for 3♠ is a puppet to 3N then showing good hand with 1 suiter or 2 suiter in minor. I prefer 3♠ as Minor Suit Stayman, 4♣ showing good hand with ♦ and 4♠ showing good hand with ♣. Could also use 3N as good hand with ♣ but people will forget
  5. You like clubs. Your never showing 3 aces at this point unless you have a special agreement, so any 5-level bid is pointless. Decide what level you want to play at and pass or bid it.
  6. I don't have many connection problems but sometimes I cant reconnect without opening a new browser window.
  7. Either is ok. Leading A from AK does create one dilemma which I witnessed on a hand last week. If you have AK you usually have an easy lead and do so quickly. When you want to lead from Axxx you don't have an easy lead and will think longer than normal. So when you lead an ace after taking a long time there is a good chance you don't have K and people especially your partner can figure this out.
  8. If the big improvement is to replace Precision 2♦with Flannery, I'm not getting too excited. A strong club with canapé 4-card majors could be a bid improvement if you can handle this style.
  9. North has a 3 loser hand, but bidding over 4♥still doesn't sound right. After hesitation it looks much better.
  10. North could invite but not horrible.
  11. Hard to think 3♣ is right bid with 4♦, sure 3♦ is better.
  12. What do you do with minimum hands and 5♥5♦ or 1♠5♥4♦?
  13. Do you use a phone or tablet? Those screens are very small. On a computer the claim popup doesn't cover any cards unless you have shrunk the playing area. a screen shoot would be useful. to do it you need to save picture to a webspace like g-drive and provide a link.
  14. Chrowhurst's book was very detailed. Books didn't discuss sequences like his book except for some strong club books. I haven't been to England but what I understand Acol is now usually 5-card majors. To me it isn't Acol anymore.
  15. says MP the hand diagram white so should be NV but yes they should say and opp vul important to show also
  16. Yes, there are multiple ways these sort of sequences can have meaning.
  17. Because England doesn't resent being ruled by an uncaring Empire in London.
  18. Yes, good. Especially if 2♣ promises 6.
  19. Nobody has said why 1♥ is right. Remember the most likely handfor south is 12-14 hcp balanced. Passing 1♣ opposite this hand will be bad.
  20. This can only happen in a 6-board tournament where everyone is supposed to playing GIB's card. But sounds like opps were regular partners so they must have chosen as their CC one that self alerts like Gibs does, a SAYC card does this. As they are not playing transfersthey should not be using this cc and must make one of their one.
  21. If someone thinks you should bid 4♠ on this hand they are resulters and don't listen to anything they say about bidding.
  22. Looks like your making FERT bids at the 2-level. There should be some method by which the opener can exact a penalty on some hands.
  23. Gib likes to make "safe" leads. It does so based on a suggestion from a lead book whose title I can't remember. There are many worse examples than this. For example if partner has opened a preempt leader still might not lead that suit even with 3+ card support. Or you side can overcall and raise a suit and leader still may not lead that suit. If you look at previous thread you will find this complaint many times. Now on this hand double dummy any lead except A♠has same result and holds declarer to 9 tricks. But bridge isn't double dummy and unless you lead Q♠ partner won't know which suit to lead when they are in with A♣. Also much of defensive decisions are made based on simulation of hands and it is difficult for BBO to change this part of Gib.
  24. I don't know why people are giving up a major suit fit. opener can still have 3 hearts or 2/3 spades. Your not strong enough for 4th suit if GF and wrong shape if F1. You should jump to 3♥ INV and gives decent description of distribution. "(1) Do you agree with the 1♠ response?" What else to bid? Unless you have a convention that shows this hand is only possible bid.
