1♦-2♣ for the average club player is a very ill-defined sequence especially as a passed hand. So I think we should give Gib a break here. With my regular partner we have a lot of artificial sequences so can handle most anything. Obviously this is not a possibility for Gib. However, opposite an unpassed hand or if your not going to pass 2♣ (best bid) should be bidding 2N with short ♦ and major suit stoppers NF. I suspect this shows extras for Gib then u have no choice but to pass 2♣.

Partner doubled major 2-suiter for penalty. Sure he could have some strange hands doubling this unusual 2♥ bid. However there is so reason to expect A♦ and a club fit needed to make 7♣.

Pass, XX or raise?
steve2005 replied to diana_eva's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I would raise. who knows you might make 4♥ on a good day. You have defense against 4♠ so u might beat that. You expect 3♠ to make so passing and redouble make no sense. -
Splinter or Gerber
steve2005 replied to masse24's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
if you want to use Gerber go 1N-4♣. Why show 5♥ and then Gerber you don't even know If you have a fit? With 6+♥ and your only interested in keycards, use Texas then 4N. -
yes I was confused by the 2 threads wasn't sure which would catch on.

I don\t see the problem, partner didn't have support but has a good hand. Surely they showed this when in later bidding, so everybody would know.?

GIB Release Notes - updated with each new version
steve2005 replied to Bbradley62's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
have to agree completely, hand evaluation is not a strong point of Gib. What really kills me is Gib gives points for shortness in partner's suit, I think even in NT. -
"Human Best Hand" Distorts the Bidding Too Much

your right I was thinking you were in 4s and gib was saying you can make -
"Human Best Hand" Distorts the Bidding Too Much

According to Gib you can make 4♠ of course that's double dummy. Personally I think partner does have a better hand than your aceless 12 :o -
5 over 5 with void in their suit?
steve2005 replied to mgoetze's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I agree with rankings but pass is out of question unless u had bid 4♥ (not necessarily hearts) to let p know u have really good hand Otherwise p can't make intelligent choice. -
mostly play mp, so always rebidding 1N as were a weak NT so want to get back with field who opened 1N. At imps 4-4 concentrated vales will rebid 1M.

Ive had similar problem forever. I cant seem to Kibitz any table. It seems to be because I sub a lot. (obviously if im registered as a sub I cant kibitz cause I might sub in) But even occurs when I haven't subbed in that session

This is very optimistic grand opposite the likely 15 hcp balanced hand opener has shown, yes might have 16 but even then. There are Kings missing so should know hook(s) will be needed for 7.
-
I agree what happens if you overcall 3♠ with a good hand, partner in the back of his mind will remember that balanced 11 count with a poor suit you overcalled.
-
Call me stupid but cant defense cash their 2 aces and exit a club. then u cant get to board for a finesse or to cash Q♠? so 5♣ shouldn't make.
-
I don't think it's forcing. With clubs stopped and 4♠ can bid 3N. Presumably wouldn't Stayman and bid 3N without 4M but I'm not 100% sure with interference. So 3♠ should have some doubt about final contract, sure has values for 3N (well at least it's bid showed values it doesn't quite have it but close). So maybe end up in 4♦ if 3♠/3N/4♠ no good. At least that's how I would play it in interference, who knows what Gib's plan is, if it has a plan.

Robot likes to play random cards when it thinks it doesn't matter. Maybe is so you wont be able to get count on hand. Since Gib rarely gives count I don't see how this helps in most cases. What I find most annoying when following suit with no chance to win trick it doesn't just play it's smallest card and sometimes the spots do matter, regardless of what Gib's simulation has predicted.

Why can't field bid easy slams on BBO.
steve2005 replied to steve2005's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
oh 76% was thinking 25% bid slam, stand corrected the grand is on a hook which KC will hint at (there is a void), so anyone bidding grand is greedy as bidding 6 usually gives guaranteed good score. -
It's always annoying when opponents bid an easy slam against you because your going to get a bad board because the field often will not be bidding the slam. Yesterday, I played with someone who though a regular partner isn't that strong, we don't play much and we don't have good agreements, we don't even play KC which I consider a minimum agreement. Well my partner took over on 3 hands using Blackwood to bid 3 throw against the wall slams. Only one did the field even have 25% bid the slam, the other 2 hardly anyone bid. He did not stretch on any hands. So, it made me wonder, why can't the field bid slams when a relatively inexperienced partnership can?

Avoiding 4-3 fits
steve2005 replied to wanoff's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I think NS in trouble in 4♠ on even a 4-2 break barring a very favourable lie.Even 3-3 need A♠ placed well. -
I have to agree at imps that 4333 is best to go 3N. We open all balanced 5M 1N at imps. We missed a 54 spade fit and still made 3N with 0% chance of going down. I;m not totally convinced at mp. If opener also 4333 then your fine, but if opener has a doubleton your likely 3-2/4-2 in a suit and may have a ruff so will often score better in 4M than 3N.
-
Not an uncommon agreement but you could use 2D-2H-2S for one of the 5-5 majors (or maybe use this as a slam try) so what for 3S how bout 22 majors 54 minors slam try. this hand hard to show. According to notes for GIB 3D/3H/3S all show splinter with 4 cards in all other 3 suits so 4441 or 5440 I presume without 5M. these are very rare hand types. I don't think much of this is an extravagant use of 3 bids. At least using on 5431 hands it comes up more often

Michaels over a weak 2 shows a much better hand your forcing p to bid at 4 level with possibly 0 pts and no guarantee of a fit. Normal Michaels your getting in the way of their auction. Here it could be your hand so you want to bid constructively so 3H shows a bigger hand. 3C bad, chance of finding game better with 3H and still possible to play in clubs or 3N if partner short in hearts

Advancing a takeout double
steve2005 replied to andrei's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Responsive doubles apply hear. so double=4♠ bidding1♠=5 I think 2♥ should be 4+♥ -
In suit contracts using big or small cards when the bidding ends the cards sometimes are rearranged to put trump on the left. You can click on your lead and it is changed when suits rearranged. Is there a way to prevent a lead being selected when cards are going to be rearranged until the cards are in their final resting spot. I have and had partners and opponents make an accidental lead from this phenonamum
