  1. I can live 2N seen worst even from humans and may be only way to 3N. Passing 3♣ is unforgivable. If a human partner pulled this I wouldn't been playing with them for a while.
  2. yes you are correct about self-rating. it has been discussed to death, see above for other post
  3. Have to agree. partners 4♥ could have zero defence I think this is up to partner and is not a forcing pass situation.
  4. For those who don't know Kickback uses the step above 4 of trump as the Keycard ask. So for: ♣ - 4♦ ♦ - 4♥ ♥ - 4♠ ♠ - 4N (as normal) It is critical in Kickback to know what trump is if your going to ask. One nice thing because you are lower you can always use 3014 I find auctions where say, you bid naturally 4♣ forward going and partner can take over by asking for keycards, very helpful. when you have 2 suits that are touching is very critical to know which is trump as Bill says.
  5. What 2♦ is wasn't specified but I can think of at least one convention allowed by GCC the original Mexican 2♦. 18-19 balanced. This uses 2♠ as a puppet to 2N. There could be others but would pretty well have to be strong 15+ pts.
  6. If partner really really wants to force they have 2♥. Some even use 3♥ for a big 6-5 but for most that is a splinter in support of ♦ .

    Limit?

If their convention card is marked pre-emptive that's pretty good evidence of what their agreement is. That east forgot what they're playing is their problem. If they can prove that's not their agreement then their looking at a possible procedural penalty for having an cc filled out incorrectly.
  8. Yes J♥ will be a big card if in p hand, 5 heart tricks
  9. you cant bid 2N with 14 pts, you'lll miss easy games. plus opener will likely bid 3N anyways. Just one of those hands.
  10. Its not completely horrible. odds are pretty good opps have ♣ fit so we should have one. However, its the job of the person short in ♣ to take an action. Doubling with 3♣ is asking for trouble.
  11. Part of problem is method. 2N is a transfer to ♣, 3♣ is a transfer to ♦. Opener has no way to say they like responder's suit like when 2♠ and 2N are the transfers. Never the less Gib has a clear 3N response and has no reason to get opener's hopes up by transferring. The only people I know who use something similar to Gib's methods have another bid just to invite 3N with a good minor.
  12. yeah well south has 5♠. probably not making any game with 4♠. Gib is optimistic looking for game with 2 points. Even if south a max communication will make game difficult.
  13. Gibs feature is ♠yet it never mention NT. 3♣ as 12-21 surely the system can narrow that range.
  14. Gib has to be counting it's singleton ♠ for it values to double. how silly. or simming
  15. Leading spades on the hope p has 5 spades. hearts is a waste of time u have no entry. Minor might work but is guess which one.
  16. This problem came up in early chess programs. The computer would see a threat 3 moves ahead so would sacrifice a pawn or a lesser piece. Now the threat is 4 moves away and out of sight for computers then. but next move the threat is still there so it throws away another piece away, repeat until computer has nothing. better hardware and software avoids this problem now. But is similar if sees is going to be squeezed the card is unimportant
  17. while I agree in hind sight a slam try would be in order, but never in my wildest dreams am I expecting 4♥ to contain 3 KC plus Qxx♠ which there is no way to find out. Take a minimum hand lacking controls which is what I would expect and your not safe at 5-level. xx Jxxx KQJ KQJx 13 hcp plus 1 pt for doubleton in opener's suit. Slam tries are way more effective below game. Jumping to game with 4 working cards 5 if u include J♥ just makes slam bidding so much harder.
  18. This hand is worth a slam try, or at least a keep your options open, not a sign-off. Playing 2/1 is 3♥. 4♥ is a bid you might have to make playing SAYC. Even in SAYC I think 3♥ is forcing so would be the correct bid, but SAYC ill-defined so not sure.
  19. jumping to game in a forcing auction 4♥ in this case should be at most 15 pts and should not have 2 keycards even then. giving extra points for a double fit would be an improvement but you say this is difficult
  20. My link Ok 4♥ bid shows 14-17 total points so Gib has its bid. But what human would jump to game with this hand. Has 4-4 ♥ fit including KJ♥, at least a 5-3♠ fit including Q♠ and 2 Aces That is way too much to have to jump to game in 4♥. imo
  21. My bridge teach told me don't go to bed with an unmentioned 8-card suit. Gib missed this lesson.
  22. yes, too hard to follow and I know transfer Walsh I read the bridge winners seems interesting but didn't go into the details as you are trying for.
  23. While using 4♣ or 4♦ as keycard is an interesting idea, your still likely going to be signing off in 5♥ if you aren't in slam. So very little is gained over using 4N and if your not safe at the 5-level why are you using keycard. So, I think 4C/4D is better to use for something other than keycard.
