K&R Hand Evaluator This will run the Kaplan and Rubens hand evaluator (knr). Type in a hand, something like KQxxx QJT2 --- Ak102, and I'll tell you how many points they think it's worth. New feature: this also prints Danny Kleinman's HCP evaluation. K&R (AQJ82 KJT8 --- AQ87) = 20.90 DK = 18- i.e. 3♥ is a no-brainer. Can something go wrong. Sure, you could get out of bed and walk out your front door and get hit by a bus too.

excuse me but I keep miscounting the tricks I see 4♣, 4♥,2♠,&2♦ and you have already lost the K of ♣ at trick 2. So what am I missing?

You are forced in case partner is weak. ok I didn't realise that. But my main poitn is partner has asked me to evaluate where I am on the 15-17 band and I have 16 with a good Q so not minimum so I bid a slam I agree

Generally I am agreement with passing 4♠ but this hand may be an exception. Can you realistically expect partner to bid on with [hv=s=sqxxxxhxxdxxxcaxx]133|100|[/hv] or[hv=s=sqxxxxhxxdxxxcaxx]133|100|[/hv] or[hv=s=sqxxxxhxxdxxxcaxx]133|100|[/hv]

probably 1♠ to get the most blockage possible for the level. 3♣ is asking to score -200 when all they have is a partscore and -500 when all they have is a game

I thought 3NT showed this hand type, a gambling 3NT only with side suit stoppers. Not that I am too keen on bidding 3NT as with 6♥ parnter is never going to figure out we probably have a slam so perhaps the 2NT bidders risk missing 6NT or 7NT with something like [hv=s=sxxxhkqjxdxxcaxxx]133|100|[/hv] but in return get to 6♥ with something like [hv=s=sxxxhkqjxdxxcaxxx]133|100|[/hv] and the 4♦ bidders have modified the "convention with no name" to suit what I guess they feel is a higher frequency The ♠bidders are subject to having problems if partner is 4-4 in the majors I have not seen the 2♣ opener proponents yet but presume they will point out the 9 tricks in hand. In short an ugly problem

I'm still not sure of 4 or 3 (or even 1, which is pretty bad though). I really dislike 0 spades though. I mean it's perfectly plausible that nobody can make any game, but with an 8 card suit it's still rather unlikely, wouldn't you say? Are you worried that the hand is going to get passed out? :)
