  1. There are also collateral effects to that. I know one chap who calls his partner Lieber to try to get the game going without further ado. Now the other day they happen to appear as our opps at a tournament, and during the round intermission my partner who was not aware I knew the 2 of them said: --These two, these two, they are online lovers. -- how do you know that?, I asked. -- Because of the way they speak to each other, AND, because they traveled to a regional game the other day without their spouses. ahem.......
  2. agree with helene. i myself would like to fly a separatist flag. But, perhaps, if you fly the flags of soccer teams you will find more people who agree with you.
  3. The real stayman abuse is this: it is to ask stayman with a balanced hand and one 4 card major, when partner denies a major, or bids he other one, you just helped opps count the hands on opening lead. got points? bid 3nt. I bid 1nt precisely to tell partner all i have in one bid, and partner now does all the work.
  4. I think this section of the forum is for law issues in off-line bridge. Zero tolerance online means-- try to be the host of your table boot the rude players mark those who swear as enemies-- you will never hear from them again but if someone makes the rules you talk about no one will be able to enforce it those who call people morons enough times will be suspended in due time, if people complain to abuse i dont bother, i just enemy them (enemy is averb)
  5. And one day the bridge master said: Let there be experts, be fruitful, multiply And soon there were , 0 experts, 00 experts, 0 00 experts Natural Selection took place, and the zeros became +++. Cannibalism, algebra, and evolution were soon to produce as seen in the lobby ++++ But not me, I am a mutation ^^^
  6. Ah, there is another feature from the windows client i am missing, and i ma not sure if it is available it is the feature to choose your own sub when partner is knocked out. it would be even nicer if the player could, in addition to perusing the list of subs, actually issue an invitation to an idle friend in the lobby.
  7. in the windows version at club play, the result for the last hand played is displayed in brackets, next to the cumulative results, can we have that in the new version please. i also like it that the chat remembers the last object of chatter, and now the opportunity to pin the profile-- i had not noticed that before. thanks
  8. There is no such on internet Tony. In virtual world we all have our own rules. This means table host or tournament organizer individually decide what to apply to. Mostly that will just be basic rules for family bridge. Thats one of the important problems caused by the old world lawmakers to fall into deep deep sleep. Thank you for stating it this way csdenmark. And it is just as well that the ruling organizations remain asleep. Must the kids who play ball in the school yard obey the laws of the olympic committee? I used to play with a fella who had trouble with responses and continuations to some conventions. so I made some flashcards with those conventions and mailed it to him. i had hoped he would eventually learn the answer but, instead he kept using the cards as crutch. So there comes the our only slam in a game of eight boards, and upon my slam try, i see it flash on the screen-- one moment please-- and i knew he was shuffling the flash cards. I bid as i would have bid, and after the game is played, we get adjusted down because the opps claim i could not bid because my partner hesitated. At the time i did not know of such law, and I was upset with partner, who after 2 years had to be fumbling flash cards of mundane conventions. so yeah, some laws are ridiculous at the level I play. As it is the tds of non-rated games can use any rules that strike their fancy, they even boot people for false carding, so where is the beef? Just make a game and say XXX Federation rules apply. So tony, give people a chance to kick footballs around the corner ok?
  9. Gerardo broadcast that bbo is having problems and they are working to solve it
  10. I saw the following quote from Abelour: I confess to floating (face-up) in the lobby. Sometimes you attend tedious meetings at work and have to pretend to be working, so you engage in entertaining chatter with bboers. But there is another aspect of conversation at bbo-- sometimes people tell you personal stories under the certainty that the people who live inside your computer cannot tell any of your flesh and blood freinds. There is the educational aspect, watching them world class players. The "It only hurts when Ilaugh" factors, of watching really bad players bid silly.
  11. The BBO news is nice because the information is concise and sometimes you have a few minutes to sapre when logging on. what would be nice would be to have a link to bbf or some kind of blog where we could add comments or ask questions on some of those. thanks
  12. Let us have a rating system!!!!
  13. the takeout does not mean 4 sapdes, or 4 in both majors for mnay poepl i think 2 sapdes is good, you need to force opps to the 3 level, you were 15 at the top of your double
  14. Other people have complained about this. Not sure what to do about it... If you don't mind, can you please try the same thing when convenient in the Relaxed Bridge Club and let me know if your experiences are any different? Thanks, Fred Gitelman Bridge Base Inc. www.bridgebase.com hi Fred, I did try it. Both in MBC and Relaxed with open seating. The tables were not so quick to fill up at the Relaxed club, so i could find a seat. It takes me longer to choose a seat at the MBC because i like to peep at the partner`s profile before attempting to sit, and then the seat gets filled.. The mouse over does not seem to be instanteneous as it is in the windows version. I had better luck where there was only one player at the table, but then who knows who partner will be, so not my preferred mode.
  15. what recourse do players have against tournament trolls? i have observed a player who has a couple of names but keeps the same banner in his profile so I know it is the same person he creates spurious results in tournaments by either passing hands with 20 hcp then doubling or sometimes punishing unsuspecting partners by bidding strongly with veyr weak hands. once i reported him to a td, who told me players cannot be punished for bad bidding my opinion is this guy is not a novice as he claims because he has been at bbo for a couple of years. I do know that the software picks up some of these players, but in this case, he has seeral names. how can we as players get relief? this guy is a regular every evening
  16. i like several of the feature of the web version, but i only use if i am at a partnership desk, have a partner wating. Should i login and try to be placed at a table, I literally cannot join the tables because the seats are no longer avaible. i refresh, i try again, same thing new table, seat no longer availale i have wide band connection
  17. i did receive a hand that way from someone, actually 2 but i had difficulty answering it because he could not identify which hand i was referring to and and i did not know how to send said hands back to him with comments
  18. Hey Karluk, several of these are indeed available in the web version. (BBO now, and recently played hands) In the web version tournament result stay there for a while, so you can check tomorrow. whereas in the old version, the results disappear quickly and you have to search the hard drive for results.
  19. That would work. i would not know what date i joined, but it was a couple of computers ago, so that record has vanished. I do know it was long enough for 75% of my acquaintances to become expert. Or former aquaintances, people who turn expert tend to drop me from their list of friends
  20. You alert agreements, not your hand. IE he is only entitled to know what your partner knows. this is like asking, would you play 3rd hand high if you hold KJX?
  21. I was curious about this recent post, so I asked the google, but could not find a reference to restrictions on internet use in Venezuela. I keep wondering how is it that a government can dictate how long one can be on the internet, while it might be easier to simply restrict acess sites of interest on the internet. Or perhaps the player in question is restricted for other reasons such as a time restriction imposed by an employer, or because they must play in a public machine. http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?sho...ndpost&p=399598
  22. Hey tuna, how many of them on the UN flag? The idea of the zero was started by ordinary palookas adding zero to the names of star players. Unsuspecting players would mistake their identity. For fun: 1. rate your self beginner or intermediate 2. ask permisso to sit at their table. Cause them to develop tendinitis!!!!
  23. It could be answered by the programmers. And has been. At length. Repeatedly. Yes it is possible, but a decision was taken not to implement it. BBO came along well after many competing providers, and they programmed it in the full knowledge of how the competition operates. It was a conscious decision to go down this road, not oversight, and carefully considered. I doubt that they expected universal endorsement: they would never get everyone's agreement on this, whichever route they went down. Lack of honesty in a self-rating system only becomes a problem if you mistakenly assume and then rely on honesty. No-one who has been on BBO for more than a few weeks pays any attention to these flags. The rating thread should be pinned, and every new member required to post on it as their introduction. :( As one of our members here pointed out at a hot rating thread at another site, this decision is the likely the reason why you log on to BBO to find thousands of tables and many tournaments and, when you log on to other sites you find, wow, 100 players logged on, and yes A (as in one) daily tournament. I remember playing one game for Lehmans being new at the site, the ratings got updated that same evening, to 49.80 from 50. On Monday, I could not find a table, sorry, 50 plus required, a +/- 0.000002 precision so as not to create another Chernobyl. Play with the idiotic expert, the experience will give you a good light conversational topic. I do not think any world class player logs on to wait for me, so those who invite are immediately suspect.!!!!1
  24. Yes, i have done that at times, and give a sabbatical to certain tournaments. The size of BBO somewhat precludes voting with the feet, in a membership of 25,000 thousand, a fool is literally born every minute. However, the quality of a game is not necessarily static and, I do not of a td who once got a spanking and now runs reasonable games. Some of my partners believe erroneously that tournament play is more competitive than main bridge club, whereas i think main bridge club play is less susceptible to bias. The fact that the table host assignment process has been changed make it harder for me to convince them to play main club, but I generally enjoy playing there better.
