  1. Dear Sir or Madam I write to apply for a position in the booting department. I have extensive experience in booting, my master degree was written about the BOOTSTRAP TECHNIQUE. At the same time i am compassionate booter as, on the day I was born, I bid out of turn, was hatched prematurely, and fell on my head. Signed Betty Booty MATMAT will wrote me a letter of reference
  2. at what point in one's bridge life, without any kind of verifiable performance success, is one convinced that he can devise his own system and then impose on every one of hid friends?
  3. I never said that we would attempt to stop free teaching on BBO (BIL, IAC, or anything else) and this is CERTAINLY not going to happen. Even if we wanted it this to happen (which we NEVER would), it is absurd to think we could stop this. hi Fred Thanks for making this clear. Teaching tables should not be for the exclusive use of "teachers". Sometimes, just as we do in partnership bidding, we just want to study. they are practice, or study tables. ACBL and/or other accreditation bodies are only relevant in certain countries. When i first started playing bridge, and before i discovered BBO, i used to go to a local club, where the director kept and open practice table. He would teach the beginners-- which sometimes included caddies, adn so would the sitout pair. One does not need to be a teacher, or world class player or hold a single master point to teach in a social setting. So if i want to hold a brodge related discussion with a partner or friend in partnership bidding table or teaching table, or chat room, i should be free to do so. As kenberg pointed out, instruction can be quite expensive. From what i gathered, it appears that provate lessons run at US$25 per hour minimum. One can buy good bridge books to keep for 410-20 per book , or a set of bridge master deals for $10 per set. I have several of the Bmaster sets, and they can be purchased over time, and studied over an over, then you play an practice. that is much cheaper than personalized instruction, and the results might be no different in the short or long term.
  4. Ben i am not sure if he is talking about the text in the FD. TRY TO PUT NAMYATS in the card it still says 8+ clubs or diamonds in the icons, even if you change the text. thanks
  5. Are transfer prempts allowed in the acbl games online at bbo? Those same games where the TD announces that GCC applies? If they are disallowed, could someone please quote the chapter and number of the law? Thanks
  6. That new feature of subbing any game in the flash version is quite thrilling. no sooner you finish a game and a new substitution comes. one after the other it is like anonymous sex. :)
  7. hey karl, do you sing like dean martin whne you td live games?
  8. i played a hand today at okbridge where sandwich nt was not alerted , the td said it is not supposed to be alerted. But i think the trend online is not to alert anything. the other day, at bbo, i opened ant, opp calls 2 clubs, i inquire, opps explains: I gave to bid over your no trump. i stopped pçlaying asked what bid means, she then calls director who rules that she does not have to alert, then boots me out of the game, he then explained that he had to boot me because she plays his game every night. I no longer even bother to tell abuse, i just hope the guy dies an early death. But i got a kick yesterday when these opps raise spadea premptively and, holding 3 spades to aq i cuebid 3 spades and alert game values, the opp was very indignant: NO KIDDING!! I smoothly and quickly puther on enemy list, doubled her 4 sapdes down 2 for 80 odd percent.. hoisted by her own petard. lol.
  9. Hello Greg A stupid question here-- i tried downloading the file and it complains abitu security level and asks that i get some kind of certificate. How can i waivr this to translate the hand viewer. thanks
  10. hello, there seems to be a problem with the validation software at bbo. When i send the validation email, i receive a message saying the intended recipient cannot be reached. i am using gmail, and have not altered the title just replied to the message. i did try it twice, can anyone help?
  11. i like ming tsai. i learned to cook chinese food from him. plus he has an engineering degree from MIT.
  12. Beavis: Bridge is a game people played before there as Tv. Butthead: there's always been tv, only now they have more channels.
  13. I tried to post there, but the moderator moved it :) why is it that the majors mostly break 3-3 in moysian fit hands? :D
  14. quite simple really. "integrating norms" is an early step in an attempt to make everyone equally good at bridge. The idea is that if we restrict the bidding, eventually, to a single legal call and then force everyone to play the same card to every single trick, true equality will have been achieved. but that game already exists!!! Isn't that Whist? where the one bid made is a card pulled from the deck?
  15. hello i keep getting messages== error cannot join table this happens any time i click on a seat at the main bridge club, and it is NOT dependent on table permission settings. when i use the **help me find a table** option, i am seated but, if a click on free (no permission required) seat at the mainclub, i get the error message. this has never happned with the windows version, and i have tried it immediately after logging off the web server. how can i fix this? thanks
  16. what? no sex till the 9th date?
  17. Yeah, i gave up on claiming long ago. And the reason was, I was in 6nt, making, i claimed, Rejected, i play a couple more tricks, claim again, with a line of play. Rejected again. Then the opps claimed, i did not read, they had claimed 4 tricks, so i was down 3. Imagine my surprose when i get a bottom. now the director refuses to adjust, claiming that even if he adjusted I would not have been on top ten. But, some one made it to top ten with that bad result. Now, I NEVER, NEVER CLAIM. And i NEVER, NEVER, accept claims from opps. Now, IF, IF THEY BEG, ABSOLUTELY BEG ME TO CLAIM, THEN I DO IT. SIMPLE, EFFECTIVE. As a bonus, the TD may devote his time to the hectic task of reciting poetry, playing utube videos and doing some interpretive dancing in the meantime. Errybody happy!!! Hakuna matata.
  18. 12-14 mt works well for me. when I decided to paly so, i had to convince several partners, but now they all prefer wek nt. the thing is when i am playing 15-17 1nt open, and my partner opens a minor and rebids 1nt, i have to take 1 teaspoon of maalox. :) whereas a 1nt rebid of 15-17 allows me rither to pass for a great contract or immediately place a game.
  19. Further to the **how long have you been playing** question, many have reported a gap in playing. When I first started playing bridge, I played for 6 months and a gap was caused by the premature death of my 81 year old partner. I have only played online ever since, can only play online and there have not been gaps since. How many have had gaps since playing online? How many partners have you sluffed?m and did you willingly contribute to their demise? PS-- THE AUTOPSY EXONERATE ME, MAY HE REST IN PEACE.
  20. i am allergic to beets. HALLELUJAH ! RAW CABBAGE IN LARGE AMOUNTS IS POISONOUS. HALLALUJAH Cinammon, i do keep on the table and consime evryday. Nutmeg is ahallucinogen. A little extra improves card-pçacing and declarer play, Pumpkim soup, from a can and some stock is fast food.
  21. sometimes i play from computers in different locations. what is the best way to preserve an FD card on a USB drive so i can have it with me. Once, after working on the card, and then openong it in the new computer, i lost quite a bit of the information. I was lucky because my partner had a copy and i copied his during a game, although not all information was recovered. Also is there a way of deleting old card from the BBO Server? Thanks
  22. Well I would drop the partner for his ignorant comment. In fact a 2 club bid generally shows 4 defensive tricks. It is in fact the lack of defensive tricks that inspired the creation of the namyats convention. But there are some players who do open this hand 2 clubs, so i guess one could take a pick on how they play. The reason i dislike opening these hands 2 clubs is that the opps have a real chance of intervening and buying the contract. Whereas when my opening bid of 2 clubs, with 4+ defensive tricks, is tampered with, i can send the opps to cry in their bed, where it is warm.
