rumors of his death, it appears, have been greatly exaggerated...

So the fella asked me: --Are you a man or a woman? --Why do you ask? -- You play like a man!! All bridge players are male. All cats are female. But maybe bridge players have no sex......

Hello This concerns subbing the web version. We sign up for subbing in any game and suddenly see ourselves removed from the so called expert team matches. I have also been removed from some kind of paid game-- was unaware it was a paid game. So if I refuse 2 substitutions, i am moved off the list, if i accept i end up being moved anyway. Perhaps the partner of the sub should be able to reject the sub.

Hello Why is it that table hosts are no longer subject to seniority? At first I thought it was the web version, but it is happening to the windows server also. Sometimes my partner opens the table and reserves, if he loses connection it is now left to a less senior player to admit him or refuse the seat, where I should really be the new host because of seniority.

There are many such who added this online love interest activity. I used to know one fella such, i think he got married at one point of the story but soon afterwards I stopped listening to the soap box. There some folks in the bbo lobby whom I chat with, but do not play with. A couple will tell me about **La merde de jour**, I do not pass it on, and figure they tell me because there is no risk of their frinds or relatives finding out. I call them lobbyists. One such lobbyists I knew wanted to marry a brazilian woman-- he succeeded after his thrid fiancee. But I think you should look for nice a girl within driving distance. Once you notice things are better, buy her a bottle of clairol if need br and go on from there.

Well I would like to discuss this, it is not only the 2 over 1 bids, but the 1 minor openings too. Recently, I was reading Better Bidding with Bergen out of my trunk. He has an eloquent discussion of walsh diamond and it is clear that the openings are to be sound openings. One point of interest is that the discourse of the book shows that the 2/1 style there does not make the 2/1 system too far removed from KS. Written in 1983, the preface was delivered by Edgar Kaplan. I find that many 2/1 players open weaker and weaker hands regardless of seat, pumping their evaluation by short suit points and losing trick count. I though that such valuations should take place after partner has said something. Less and less consideration is given to hand texture. Yet, many players would open all three hands below in any seat. Responder who might be sitting there with a good 12-13 might get to 3nt onçy to play silly contracts. Examples: Hand 1 S AKXXXX H X D ATX C XXX Hand 2 S AXXXXX H K D ATX C XXX Hand 3 S KXXXX H XX D AX C AXXX :)

Well one time I started missing one "friend" of mine. After a couple of months I started asking some of his known friends about him, no one answered and I attributed it to the fact that they might not understand English. I was a little worried that he might have died, many many months later, I chanced to play a woman who spoke english and played with him, so i inquired. She blurted-- He is still around, but changed his handle because of somebody. Thinking again, she added: I hope it was not you. LOL. I did see him later under another name, and actually deduced it was him for his choice of new name. But i never said hello.-- will omit the name to protect the guilty. So it is ok, if i am on your enemy list, just tell me to piss off. I will. lol. lol.

I echo Phil here. I have a few excellent players marked as friends only because I kib them. It is awkward sometimes to send them chat messages while intending to reach someone else in the lobby. ( Who are you? lol) It might be just as awkward for someone to approach them and ask say they are a friend of mine ( Who's that? lol)

Maybe we could have a bam competition hosted by a director. swans bridge use to have one such game. you sign up for the game the same way you sign for a pairs tournament but you need 4 names. the hands are scored in matchpoints at time of play and the bam points are calcualted after the game. i suspect they do it by hand because the results were not posted till the next day.

Thanks for the replies and wishes folks. The kitten's condition has improved, she is a little fighter and the doctor predicts she will be good in a week or so. But if anyone cares, I fed her jars of 8 month baby food, pea and ham soup, just like they give sick babies to prevent dehydration. It worked.

The opps are pussyfooting when this happens PASS-PASS-1CLUB-PASS-1 DIAMOND- PASS-PASS It may well be that the 1 club opener had one of those minimal hands and the hapless fella in 4th seat had a decent hand which could not overcall or double, and his passed partner might no have anything to say either, what should his actions be there? Yeah sometimes they bid highly and silly, and we double for zip code score, but that does not happen often enough. I had an unforgettable one where i was in 4th seat with 24 hcp including akqjt clubs. Player in 3rd seat opens 1 club, I passed, too many short suits with honours and poor control for no trump. The auction proceeds p-p-1club-pass with strong hands- 1 diamond by opp-pass- 2CLUBS!!- they were vulnerable, i passed again and , after two passes, my partner doubled, i left it in. there this the one club bidder bid poorly, when you open crap, you pass and pray. The pussyfooting is very common in the bbo intermediate soup.

Reporting Psyches
babalu1997 replied to jillybean's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Give a ruling and tell him it is not your job to teach him bridge. 75% of bbo experts are unacquainted with passout seat auctions and many card play techniques. I am very fond of chinese finesses and I hardly ever attempt blind two-way finesses. I get called a moron all the time. lol. -

I lost my 13 year old cat to heart failure. So i went to the local shelter, where conditions are apalling. There i found the tiny black kitten with long legs, so black you cannot see her eyes when pupils are dilated, and huge, huge ears. The kitten cages were crowded and the folks there tell me black cats are bad luck. I brought the kitten home and she was very lively, but sick. I took her to a private vet, and the cat has one of the worst parasitic infection he had ever seen, and he showed it to me in the microscope. He said also the infection was treatable and that he hoped it was not accompanied by a viral problem as well. I started the treatment, she is a little better but it will take seceral days minimum for signs of recovery. Meanwhile she is quite tame, very young and really playful, looks for people, takes the medicine without complaint and wants to nap on your lap already-- reasons for me not to return her to certain death in the shelter, wonder if that is really a shelter. I do not have a name, any suggestions?

Well there are actually games being held where one can suffer trick penalties if the opps report slow play. As far as i am aware, the bbo program doe not record the time between bids and play,so one may end up being victimized for the crime of thinking. I in fact inquired, I was told : "Slow play now seems to endanger the popularity of the game." "A survey of duplicate players reported that the biggest irritant is not rudeness or even complicated systems. It is slow play." This was, omg, a 6 min board tourney, here our opps complained that " we alerted too much". I bet alerts are quite the irritant too. I don't know who took the survey, but surely, i just stopped playing the said game. lol

well i recently took the normal bid over opps strong no trump in another hand this week. i bid 2clubs, dont-- club and higher, with 4-4 shape and 3-11 hcp-- hapenned to have 4. then the opps claimed damage, because my partner took 31 seconds to bid(the partivular software tracks that) i was completely taken aback, fts i fif not even notice that my partner had hesitated-- some times he takes long to bid-- because of local distractions or phone calls or whatever. director rukles it was not a clear bid-- for me it was-- would have made it anyways. but i find it a bit ridiculous that a 31 second in an online game constitutes sufficient enough time to verify hesitation. but no matter, thay aind getting my $1 anymore.

What is the meaning of SAYC? I always thought it is a system published with specific parameters. I never play with players who display on their profile: stolen bid or *gerber anytime* (whatever that is). But now I have now seen more than one player who plays *transfer to majors only*, only to discover that they do not play stayman and in fact, transfer to a 4 card major. I now start to wonder whether there is an area of the US where people are taught to bid that way. One would think, with stayman having been american, that most US players would learn stayman, and, as a beginning player at a club, they would start learning some sayc or 2 over 1 card which would be inclusive of stayman. I never thought that the sentence **transfer to majors only** excluded stayman, thought it only excluded the transfer to minors. Why would anyone transfer to a 4 card major in matchpoints? I need to know to make better opening leads against these players.

Having been brought up in a household where toddler's milk was laced with coffee (or what they call latte in the vernacular), O remember tasting tea in a restaurant at the age of ten. I started buying it, and when i could travel alone as a teenager, i would ride a bus for 2 hours to purchase the imported twinnings. My mother, i believed, learned from me. When she died and I was home for the funeral, my father packed all the remaining tea in my bag-- not tea is bought in the house hold anymore. I think i have a tea drinking gene, so i wrote here because there are smarties in the water cooler. They can save me from having to watch many hours of Oprah.

The substitute pool in the web version assings sub to team matches, I do not think many hosts are aware of that. They then proceed to remove the subs from the team match, I guess this is an annoyance to both sub and tm hosts. Perhaps the hosts should be able to vet the subs before they are allowed inot the game.

Aha, the director gets to have his own set of kibbitzers :)
