GIBs Balistic bidding to 4 w/only 4-6 pts
babalu1997 replied to MsPetey's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
I have not rented the gibs in while. They get all them cards for true. and when they do not get the cards they hog the bidding. but i outsmarted them. i open total points table. I remove the gib partner to play the hand and play them myself. and if the lucky opps get the contract: I REDEAL, I REDEAL TAKE THAT, YOU MISERBALE GIB, TAKE THAT. -
In clocked games, sometimes we want to click on a link. Joys of online bridge, if you are playing with screens you can never go off while dummy and watch belly dancers. But in the web version, those utube links knock us off bbo. Partner and i are naive users, i think he is on internet explorer, and i am on firefox. Not much room for experimenting because there is a high chance of not getting the seat back when returning to the game. Any suggestions?

It was in fact the opp who suffered the indignity of opening this hand and then going for -200 in matchpoints AJTX KXXX KQXXX VOID Now we open 4 card suits up the line, weak nt 12-14, no canape( THIS IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO CANAPE OR REVERSE ANYWAY), no miniroman. I think i would have opened 1 hearts, and pass 1nt by partner or bid as little as i could if he bid something else. However, could there be an argument in favor of simply not opening this hand? The opp opened 1 diamond and reversed to 2 hearts after a 1nt response, contract was down 1, his partner, as expected, was chockfull of clubs. thanks

i dont think you will find one to disgaree with you here in this forum but not long ago, my husband who was outside cleaning a window, was spooked by these glowing blue things. turns out they were not baby blobs, it was dark inside, and the balck kitten was staring him down, the light from the outside making her eyes glow he called me to see it. did look like and alien staring down on me But i remeber being amused by a testemonial of an alien encounter on tv where the witness started by-- It was cold and i had drunk a half bottle of vodka..... ah, that explains it, i am sure extra terrestrials like vodka

i think many would like that. the shipping policy is nice that we do not have to pay extra for shipping those of us who live outside the us often have to pay taxes and duties when purchasing the cds but when the online versions are available, we do not have to but then also they are only available in the windows server and afaik no new additions have been added in along time

Once this monstrously ugly man married a good looking gal. They were walking in the park and a passerby explains: Looka here, the beauty and the beast. Guy walks up to him and punches him. How dare you call my wife a beast?

Well, in life and in bridge, there would be no stress if only a rating system was implemented. Try getting inot an expert table ans see what happens to you.

Gerber! The focus of so many bridge jokes! Its Palm Springs last week and I'm killing time before the 2nd session. So I see a local novice who's attending his first regional, so I ask, "any interesting hands"? He says, yeah, you hold eight diamonds to the AKQ.... (I said, "hands with 8 baggers are usually interesting"....) ♠Ax♥Qx ♦AKQTxxxx ♣x So you open 1♦ and hear 1♥ by pard. (hmm...I said.....this is tough. I imagine 3N, 3♦, 2♠ and 3♣ might all get votes). Nope, not my choice. I bid 4♣ !? (wow, 4♣ - thats a splinter in support of hearts - that wouldn't occur to me) We don't play splinters. (actually I'm not sure he knows what a splinter is). 4♣ is ALWAYS ace asking. (auto-gerber - groan - who is teaching these people. But I admit - this might be a good hand for it) So partner shows me two (nice) with 4♠ and I ask about kings with 4N (rolling auto gerber!). And partner shows me one king. (too bad - if its the ♥K - great news - otherwise - not so great). So he wonders how to bid the grand with ♠xxxx ♥AKxx ♦x ♣Axxx playing this system. (I said the second session was starting. I didn't hand him my business card) Phil, Phil, you need a refresher course on conventions. This is very frequently played in the main club. this is a convention named "GERBER ANYTIME" that means anytime you bid 4 clubs, that is gerber. appears right next to stolen bid dble on profiles -
Agree with the open area statement. There are already private clubs and friends clubs, and people could seek the groups where they would be happy playing. What we need is some kind of central place where the conditions of admission and description of these groups are listed so new members can choose. In practice, members can be excluded from these groups for any reason. But if someone pays to join, you need to better your reasons so that osmeone is not booted for false-carding or bidding multi. If some group owner excludes me for trivial reasons, I just move on(not really, I whine here at the forum first). If a table host removes me, same, that is his prerrogative, there is other tables in the lobby. But remember, i can do the same too, i can mark folks as enemy for any reason, remove them from my table for any reason, etc... Rudeness online is a reality, so just live with it. Paid sites are not immune from it. you also get there people who join the table and remains just until they get the first negative score, then they leave.

york, exactly what is your point? it is obvious that the founders of bbo intended to create a product that would be free to emphasize education and promote the game. many people cannot afford to join paid sites, and the problems existing in bbo, including tournaments, continue there. i think your idea is evil and is meant to restrict bridge to those who can afford it. let those who have money go on cruises and spend thousands of dollars travelling if they wish if you dont like the people losing connection, just stop tding

He did not have an answer to what i should bid, and then he went on for anorther team match, but i did not follow him there. Now i do not play off line bridge, and I read the so-called 'standard books'. Although i did discuss this with this partner, as we have played on and off for a while, he is not the only one who would do that. There are some players who love the light count, and open *every 11 count* there was a hand i saw open on the same team match, i swear: qxx ajtx kxxxx q they then bid to 2 hearts, and i balanced 3 clubs on a 12 count, kjt9xxx, making 5 imps the corollary to this is that when they open with a 14 count and you answer 1 heart, they jump to 4, when you are just trying to find something not to pass their 1 minor open. i have seen players form several countries do this so some palooka must be going around teaching people.

I held a xxxx aqjtx akjt I opened 1 club, playing basic agreements, imps, and the bidding goes 1club-p-1heart-p-4hearts we missed 6 hearts because that was passed out, partner, who hel the hand below say he is barred from bidding because I signed off. his hand was kxx akxxx x qxxx I did not signoff, i told him very strongly that we have 4 hearts opposite a minimum from him and he was far from swhowing his strength, yet it was up to him to go on. he claims it was my fault for not trying for slam, and does not understand my point? do i get a free lunch?

Well I had been playing the following agreement: 1CLUB-P-1HEART- 2CLUB CUEBID BY ME would mean spades and diamonds 2 suiters with shorter clubs than hearts 1CLUB-P-1HEART- 2hearts CUEBID BY ME would mean spades and diamonds 2 suiters with shorter hearts than clubs So I avoided the dbl to show the other 2 suits because dbl leave them too much space and then they know to play the hand, and the cuebids pumps the auction a little harder. As luck would have it, this week i was actually dealt a one suiter with 3 of top five honours in one of their suits in three different deals. would an unusual 2nt be better? or perhaps leav the cuebids in and adopt a comic 1nt instead? thanks

I first learned bridge in 1961 so not surprisingly I learned it by reading Goren. It's very rubber bridge oriented and perhaps therein lies a tale. I had no time for or interest in duplicate, I just played with friends in the evening. Good cheap entertainment for grad students. I played a little, off and on, here and there, and then started duplicate in the late seventies. Whenever people speak of getting young people into bridge these days, they mean into duplicate or tournament bridge. I believe that in 1961 nothing would have got me into duplicate except maybe a game very nearby (no car) and a place to put the baby while we played. Even then, probably not. Easier to play at home and the baby sleeps better there. Later, things changed, duplicate became more attractive. Really nothing anyone could have done about that. Promoting rubber bridge at home may pay off down the line though. But Ken if you had the computer back then, then you would have started playing duplicate right away. Sometimes I play with a young couple. Couple , I say because sometimes the tournament starts when the wife is busy with the baby, and the husband fills in until she gets back on. I played at a club for 6 months when i first started. In this club, the beginners gathered in a table and took turns as players and kibbitzers and the director and sitout pairs would come and fill in spaces as time allowed. I eventually played with an 80 year old partner, but he died 3 months later. (the autopsy exonerated me). Then i came to bbo and hung around the bil and refugee club for a while, using ltpb program. One time this fella rated expert said he wanted to partner with me. I believed him, that he was expert and that he wanted to partner with me. i told him i was a noob. But i tried hard, ordered a bunch of books and software, spent a couple of hundred dollars. Before the books arrived, and after about 3 games, the guy started ducking me, explaining that he would play with me at a pre-arranged time, set the time, i said. He did not. So he received the honour of being my first enemy. So i asked this long-suffering partner if he would play 2 over 1 books with me so my money would not go to waste. He told me he was too old to learn the stuff, and then told me-- Read the books. That is what i have done ever since, and have become obsessed with KS, and always ask new partners if they want to try it. I have no plans of playing live bridge, so bbo is my realm, tho i like partnerships, at the end of the day, bridge above all, partners come and go. Or perhaps a fool is born every minute who will partner with me. :(
