I beg to differ. When the obnoxious kibitzer crashes in the star-studded game, we innocent bystanders have to hear all sorts of foolishness. Last week, the situation was so ridiculous, that the host threatened to close the game to kibitzer. So there, 600+ kibitzers cannot enjoy a game because the obnoxious attention seeker must have his say. Of course the guy could come here to the water cooler and spew his venom, but that is not enough, because people read these things voluntarily. what he wants to annoy a lot of people who had 30 minutes to spare and wanted to learn and watch without listening to racist comments. And there is not a thing I can do, the obnoxious one is already on the enemy list but public and table chat still appears. I did not bother to complain, but kept the chat anyway. the pity is that he is still allowed to log in!!!!

w was playing 4 way transfers, and the bidding went 1nt-p-2nt-p-3c-p-3nt I alerted-- 3c-- partner asks me to bid. since that was the agreemnet, i took it upon myself to alert. The opp was a star player, nice guy certain curmudgeon qualities and a regualr at the game,who then told me there hand been no alert from the other side. I told him the best i could do was alert my own bids, and he said not if you play natural 2nt response. Later it turned out that partner had forgotten we played transfers, but still, what am I to do if partner forgets the agreement, how much further am i to answer opps queries.

when persons log on to the web version, they no longer register as subs for each tourney or team match. they register as subs for any game. if one logs on just to sub, that can be fun we keep getting invitations game after game. lobby chat is not longer available so the team matches have no means of recruiting subs. Not evryone who glitters is an expert, and yes the so called expert team matches do boot us some times. Funny thing is, i have never seen jimmy cayne advertise in the lobby for experts, his group knows where to find them!!!!

RE: BIDDING TABLES ON THE WEB CLIENT The windows version has options where we can control the opposition's bids: pass always, overcalls, prempsts, doubles, etc... It also has the option that the table host controls the opps bidding. Could we have that in the web version? Sometimes we want to rebid the hands in constructive, competititve and even defensive modes and the need control over the bots. Thanks.

YES the added features have caused me to use the web client more frequently. I do miss the mouse over tho. it is too clcik intensive to try to find out it a friend is available for play, or try to make sense of opps bidding and having to click in their profile. there are many many plyers who say " i play my partner's profile" and the re you go you have to keep clicking.

I would like to add the point of view of a player who only plays online. And I started from nothing playing online. The first day I logged on I was told not to come back, and yes, there are places online where one can play and the acme of expertise is the (in)famous stolen bid double. I was interested in more. I have played with one partner with whom i always score well and when i asked him to get a 2 over 1 book and learn he said he played for social reasons, there were also time-zone differences. We have never stopped playing and I am happy to find him online-- he has also gotten used to the fact that I will bid conventions with no agreement (oh, btw , partner, that was a bergen raise lol). We have also agreed that he will bid a slam on the last hand-- so when he says last hand, i know it is a slam, lol. But, in addition to general mixture combination of skills, compatibility, availability, there is one fact which i would like to add. I would wish a partner who says, when next? And, who says when next every time. Yep, Friday at 8, send email if any changes. Also-- postmortem. the postmortem, together with the set time to play again, will allow me to make preparations to correct some of the last blunders.

Mentors, like partners or relatives, cannot be chosen. The BIL does a good job in trying to match people, and there you have an opportunity to try to find a mentor. Sometimes it does not work out. I have one, he does not play with me, or even say hello, and neither do i. I just watch from the bush. If one day it catches fire, i will talk to the mentor.

Aye Aye At this point in time, i am only patronizing ONE, ONE private club that runs free tournaments. There is no solution to quitters, to stallers, to being booted from games because the opp is friends with the td, to being booted from game because I do not play jacoby transfer. I gave it up. I play tourneys at another paid site. The field is too small at the dollar games and the fees pile up, and so i prefer to play an yearly fee and play an unlimited number of games. I come to nno now to play the bridgemaster or to play at the main bridge cçub with a few acquaintances from many years go. Also vugraph and partnership bidding table. Sometimes i play at random tables, till they call me a moron for opening 2 spades in 4th seat to show an opening hand, then i log off. i am happy now. :lol: :D

In matchpoint score, the scores are ranked from lowest to highest in terms of percentages and the scores are less dependent on game bonuses. You can win big with over tricks so your declarer play and defense have to be very gressive, the bidding is conservative. In imps game overtricks mean nothing, the pressure is on for the game bonus so the bidding is very aggressive to get that game no one dares bid or to redouble the sure contract you can make. On defense you win big by doubling opps game bid on skimpy values. The card play is more conservative as all that is necessary is to make your contract. That is my understanding but others can elaborate on more precise terms. I much prefer to play matchpoints because, it is possible there to win with bad cards, the ones that are frequently dealt to me.

HH, does your profile say BASIC SAYC? I bet you would not play that way with a pickup partner. Partners have surprised me before not playing stayman and others who opened 2 clubs not strong, but they were from countries where SAYC is not the norm, so I attributed to that. But these 2 players were actually from North America. As to the partners, no I did not leave the the tournament, just did not open 1nt in subsequent hands and if i could not respond 3nt to their 1nt opening, i passed. Should they contact me by any chance i will likely give them some SAYC WEB reference for their own good.

Two strange things happened on the way to the forum: I played with Sayc partner number one who played transfer to majors only. The auction went: 1nt-2d-2h-3h-4h. Duumy comes down with 3 heart trumps, and 4 diamonds. I had 3 hearts. Second hand-- 1nt-p-2c-p-2d- 3d -- all pass I now have 2 diamonds and dummy had 4 diamonds. Do we play stayman p? NO, JUST TRANFER TO MAJORS. I played with Sayc partner number two who played transfer to majors only. The auction went: 1nt-2c-2s all pass-this time the dummy had 5 clubs headed by akj and 4 diamonds with a couple of honours. Do we play stayman p? my profile says tranfers to majors only . I found these answers might peculiar, as these were not beginners. I just cannot fathom how could someone learn transfers without playing stayman, or maybe they were having second thoughts about stayman. I swear i had never seen this.. tho some people do not play stayman, the same folks do not play transfers either. What are the odds of playing with 2 such players in one week?
