Auto redeal when using Help-me-find-a-game?
babalu1997 replied to uday's topic in Suggestions for the Software
Pls don't vote unless you actually use Help-me-find-a-game to play, or unless you tend to open tables that don't need perms to sit ( which are populated by help-me-find-a-game ) There are other stakeholders other than these mentioned. I never used the hmfag feature in the windows client, but have to do so in the web client because the tables do not refresh. While I tend not to open tables without permission, sometimes i might change permission settings if I cannot attract opps-- remeber, i can no longer recruit them from the lobby. While in the windows client, i like to browse and select available partners in tables that may or may not have permission settings, often i am beaten to the seat by the hmfag crew, but i can live with that. Sometimes, when I do find a seat the partner might not like what he sees and he leaves, i can live with that, but the opps may suffer repeated redeals in this process. - incoming players that arrive in the middle of a hand as defenders or declarer cannot possibly defend or play. They need to manually redeal. With that I agree, they need to MANUALLY redeal, let them use their own finger and ask, if the rest of us do not agree, how inconvenient can it be for the hmfag fella to go and click the hmfag button again? Some of them might not feel they need a redeal, i never ask for a redeal when i join a game in progress, i play it out, misdefend and misplay. Unintended side effect: - incoming players that arrive as dummy don't need to cause a redeal, but they do now anyway. At first i thought like USviking, that one person was taking control and making decisions for a majortiy of three. But then I realized it is worse than that. All the guy did was click a button to join a table. It was an Infinite Monkey who redealt the hand, who cares about the players he is there 24-7 imposing redeals on all concerned. Sorry, i think the remedy is worse than the disease. -
uday, the dummy leaves and there is a redeal. there are ethical declarers out there who will play out the hand. maybe it was declarer who bid badly and dummy left. maybe the guy leaves to join a tournament and the hand is redealt before my very eyes the dummy loses connection, i lose the right to play out my hand. sorry, my tables mates were upset too and i just had 3 hands change before me because people left the table. i do not thin there will be games at the mbc for me anymore. sometimes i join a table with a pair known to me but did not bring a partner, so some random leaves the table and we cannot finish the hand with someone else. i am sorry you sound cavalier and dismissive of the issue.
-
amen that is truly disconcerting, so now the loonies at the mbc can take control and leave me in the dust i want to finish playing my hand and i want the serve to record the redoublers now when people realize they are going -1100, they leave and i cannot get my rightful penalty double scores

So, adding sometime for sleep, meals and personal hygiene, how long do you have left to play bridge?

Suggestion for score when playing at a table

this should move to the hijack thread here, we make suggestions, then we listen to the bosses and they answer in earnest, thank them. lest of course, they are a nuisance. -
Suggestion for score when playing at a table
babalu1997 replied to diana_eva's topic in Suggestions for the Software
For me BBO=bridge. The score is not important, i play to learn. There must be some reason why BBI has thousands logged on where you are lucky ti find 100 tables at rated bridge sites. People cannot afford to sacrifice their rating because they want to try a new system, for example. The effect on the score for 7ntxx might be the same as the novice who mangled a sound contract. So just ignore the score and move on. I really believe that the thousands of users just ignore the score. -
My comment was a suggestion that you not even think about Zar Points. Even though have not used Zar Points in any fashion, you have been thinking about them. It sounds like you are still thinking about them. If the reason for your thinking about Zar Points is because you think they are interesting, that's your business. But if you are thinking about Zar Points because you think they might help you become a better bridge player, I (and several other knowledgable posters) are telling you that you this: Studying Zar Points now will actually contribute to making you a worse bridge player than you otherwise might have been. Quite possibly significantly worse. So unless this is a purely intellectual exercise for you, just get it out of your head and pay attention to all the important things the other posters have mentioned. I hope you are not perplexed anymore. Fred Gitelman Bridge Base Inc. www.bridgebase.com i hear fred. And the others, like declarer play, study, study etc... All these are lonely activities, including hand valuation. The best thing one can do to better their bridge is think about partners cards. support partner suit and he will be happy. keep bidding your own hand and soon you will not have a partner. i bumped into oen of these zar palyers the other day, they complete ygnore your passes, your nt bids, and in fact rob you of the contracts you have been waiting for for a very long time because they must play the hand. by the second round, the td had mercy and removed me at my request.

I have played with 3 people who play what they call oe count attitude and discard. Well, when they said oe i assumed discards only, and, needless to say, i read some bewildering attitude signals, and the partners misread what i signaled with. they were nice people and actually tried to teach these signals to me, but i have searched in books and the net and do not find it anywhere. does anyone here know?

request for bidding table: could the bidding table host have an option to see his partner`s hand? could the bidding table host have an option where his partner sees his hand? then the third option, both see each other hands and react to the bots bidding. same request for teaching tables too. thanks bbo

PRIVATE-no name-no system?
babalu1997 replied to pirate22's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
this thread starts to remind me of those crime reports in the news paper. After leaving the strip club, John was walking on Wild Side Street at 3.30 am when he was accosted by a gunman and robbed of $2,000, a cell phone, rolex watch and $3,000 neck chain. Well, serves him right. There will be, at any time, 1,000 other tables in the main club, move on, or open your own. Incidents like this no information available can be a bit more annoying in tourneys. But now, i even have stupid alert resistance. But there is also anothe possibility, some new members are not aware of self-alerts and belive his partner can see it. I remeber my opp throwing a fit when i alerted 1nt 12-14, called the director and so on. Our trying to explain was no avail. I marked her name, made a player note and in susequent encounters, have never alerted anything until asked. -
Bidding questions
babalu1997 replied to waubrey's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
hand 1 i open a 2d multi which can show weak in one or both majors, if both sifferent lengths these 5-5 suited hands are so common at bbo that it is worth adopting these bids my 2s shows sapdes and a lower, if the lower is hearts they have eqaula numbers. -
i strongly object. i have purchased some bbo products, and would not like to be purged, i would like to continue to have acess to the master deals i purchased. must i be purged for the convenience of someone who enemied me?

Suggestion for score when playing at a table
babalu1997 replied to diana_eva's topic in Suggestions for the Software
why is it the the maximum number of baords is 16? would be nice to have hands scored for something like 50 or 30 boards. Only once it happened to me to play the same deal, i was declarer as south and then joined another table as west. but i did not realize it till the deal was over. long time ago, did not report to anyone -
Why do we lead x from QJxx vs NT?
babalu1997 replied to Siegmund's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
well, i think there are a couple of examples in william root`s books advising the q lead if dummy has shown a 4 card suit. there maybe a couple more examples there if you care to look. -

another bidding question
babalu1997 replied to babalu1997's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
thanks, **max** or **extras**, all in the eyes of the beholder. guess the one no trump response should be so too, who cares what bids show that is bridge, lets all play indies -
1 minor-p-1nt-p-2nt Assuming 1nt opens of 15-17, and 1nt is 6-10 no major, what should opener have for the 2nt? Is mercy on partner required since the tenaces on dummy are exposed? Assuming 1nt opens of1 2-14, and 1nt is 5-8 no major, what should opener have for the 2nt? Is mercy on partner required since the tenaces on dummy are exposed?

What's Wrong with these auctions?
babalu1997 replied to inquiry's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
How about this one: 1nt-2spades-pass-pass-2NT 2nt pretty awful to play, but this one wants to do it with 15 points i dont save them. I also remeber a recent one, i had balanced hand with one jack. 1diamond by opp- 1 heart by partner- 1 spades by opp- pass by me 2club by opp- dble by partner- 2diamond by opp-pass by me pass by opp- dble by partner- all pass Whats all this bidding p? I had POINTS THE POINTS WERE ALL OF 14 HCP INCLUSIVE OF A DOUBLETON QJ OF SAPDES WHICH THE OPPS ATE FOR SUPPER -
i again disagree helene, but the question of systems perhaps should be moved to another thread. Playing precision, open 1d, the guy has limited his hand, answers are changed. Playing SA, his range is huge, let us say 11-18, answers are changed. I get genereally better scires at matchpoints with 5 card majors and better at imps with 4 card majors even in the palooka field. Sometimes i get an undeserved score in matchpoints because we were playing in a field of imps bidders, sometimes I get a few imps because the imps bidders were bidding game when they should not. So i just try to figure out whether the bad score was the result of something partner and i did, and move. i do not plan to graduate from the free tourneys and go play the reisinger, so it is ok. As for scoring, why change it? the 90 percent who like imps will and do open their own tables. the tds whose 90 percent of membership prefer imps are free to set their tourneys as they wish. Let them do so. As for me, ourt experience has been, when we sit at the main club and open a matchpoints table, we get much much better opposition than when we open imps. Matchpoints scares many a bbo expert. Very few people still play rubber bridge at bbo, why not change the scoring and compare with some par value so that the imps bidders can now enjoy a rubber scoring table? I say that the folks who like to play rubber bridge find each other, mark each others names and life goes on...
-
then if this thing is similar to imps scoring, then i think i will pass i much prefer matchpoints games, i prefer the bidding, i prefer the defense, i prefer the card play People who like imps have a lot more opportunities to play online that i have me want matchpoints
-
i beg to disagree helene acol and precision systems do work better in imps 2/1 and ks better at matchpoints It also has an impact in defensive bidding agreements, if you read mike lawrences books on competitive bidding he always elaborates on different actions depending on scoring i am not ken rexford, so i want to open a book and learn from that

by virtue of my profession, i am in a group that has priority for receiving free swine flu shots i have no known health care concerns which would increase my risks should i take it? or duck it? apparently someone will be visiting my work place to deliver shots and i have seen a couple of people who received flu shots get some flu symptoms immediately after.
-
Beever Could you elaborate on the impact of this scoring method on the bidding of a few of the major systems, like sa, precision or 2/1, for example. These systems pefrom better or worse for different types of scoring.

[hv=d=n&n=sj8haqt85dakq832c&s=sak72h74dj76cq643]133|200|[/hv] So, north opens 2 clubs, to which I answer 2 diamonds, waiting i hope-- no agreement he then bids 3 diamonds I cringe, please do not let this be one of those 4 card diamond suits. 3 spades by me 4 hearts by him At this point I was in pain, but figure he must have some clubs, so I bid the mastermind made possible by my guardian angel. 6 NO TRUMP a club lead, the queen of clubs holds, i am aghast my rho tosses all his clubs and when i finesse the heart he leads to my winning dummy. Bad bridge yes, but i bid no trump just to put myself out of my misery. 3nt, or 6nt for that matter, ends all auctions I am now doing this while being chastised by partner, but i did answer him: Why do you open that hand 2 clubs in the first place? would my learned friends from the forum do that? thanks all
