  1. complete hand:[hv=pc=n&s=sq8had72cakqjt732&w=sa975hq984daqj6c4&n=skt63h652dkt95c85&e=sj42hkjt73d843c96]399|300[/hv] I wondered if it is best to bid slow and give opps time to find best contract or to bid fast and high immediately. Maybe it will be more clear for opps if you bid 3NT/5♣ that you have long ♣ and it is even easier for them to find best game/slam. I didn't know and probably there is no clear answer to it?
  2. IMPs [hv=pc=n&w=sq8had72cakqjt732&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=1d(4+)p1h]133|200[/hv] What is your plan?
  3. What should West bid iso 5♣? 5NT pick a slam?
  4. (This post can be moved to Laws forum by operator if possible) Behind screens (N-E / S-W): Tray comes come to South after a long delay. (everyone agrees that it took longer than normal). South DBLs and that is passed out. North has: ♠J632 ♥AT2 ♦K82 ♣765 2♠X goes -3 = 800. (Board played in lower division) - Is it clear (or likely) that tray delay is caused by North & that Souths double is suggested by it? - Do you correct the score?
  5. Thanks for the answer mikeh. The question comes from a discussion of another pair at the bar. One person of that pair opened 2♦, to show a GF with ♠. The other person said that he should have shown the 2-suiter with better ♠ then ♣. I said that ♠ are so good that I would treat it as single suiter, but would rather open 1♠ and bid it slowly (hoping to get DBLed at MPs). So if you can choose (to eliminate possible opps preempts): - 3♠=GF with ♠ - 3NT=GF with ♠&♣; better ♠ then ♣ - 1♠ => How would you order these choices?
  6. [hv=pc=n&s=skqjt987hd2cakt52]133|100|MPs[/hv] What do you open? How do you rank following options: - 1S - 2-suiter GF, with better ♠ than ♣: 3♥-3♠-3NT=♠ and ♣ (this is better ♠ then ♣, because 2NT-3C-3S is 2-suiter ♣-♠ - GF ♠: 2♦ multi-2♥-3♠
  7. [hv=pc=n&s=sk5hkj94dt93caqj4&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1n(14-17)2spp]133|200|Teams/IMPs[/hv] All Red at IMPs (teams) you open 1NT, 14-17. LHO Follows with 2S natural and this is passed back to you. Your partner had Lebensohl and Take-out available. Pass or DBL?
  8. It wasn't. Maybe the lead of the Ace makes it more likely that East thinks he has another trick? This hand came from a team match against 2nd placed. (probably decisive about champion in a lower league). My partner finessed and East had ♦Qxx; at the other table the hand was played by South. West did lead ♦J from QJxx and declarer played diamonds from top for -1. In the first half of the match there was another 6♦ played at both tables. No losers in side suits with: ♦Kxx - ♦QT87xx. The ♦K lost to the ♦A. At our table played I next played ♦ from top, at the other table a ♦ was immediately returned and declarer found this strange. He finessed. ♦s were 2-2. Twice 6♦, twice a different decision taken at both tables. We were twice lucky.
  9. [hv=pc=n&s=s2h2dajt6432ckq62&n=saq53hk743dk5ca73&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=1np3c(transfer%20D%2C%20weak%20or%20strong)p3d(forced)p3h(single)p3n(to%20play)p4c(cue%20for%20D)p4sp4n(RKC%20D)p5d(3%20or%200)p6dppp]266|200[/hv] This was the actual bidding that triggered the question. East did lead ♥A and another ♥. North played ♦K and ♦. Would you play ♦A or ♦J now?
  10. minorwood when suit is agreed before bidding 4m, that wasn't the case here. 4NT RKC here.
  11. system notes say single, but it can be a void also. 4♥ iso 3♥ is undefined, but should probably be a void or voidwood (to be agreed)
  12. 1NT-3C 3D-3H 3NT-4C ? 1NT=15-17 3C=transfer D, weak or GF (Not intermediate) 3D=forced 3H=singleton H 3NT=to play (no good hand, bad Diamonds and/or lost points in H) 4C=Cue, 1st/2nd Suppose above bidding agreements and RKC is only done with 4NT. (4NT=2nd negative, 4D=forcing, 4S=S-cue, no H Ace) What is the difference between 4D and 4S now? Do you have an agreement about a situation like this? (I would be surprised if anyone have agreed this, but then: what do you think it should be?) 4S=(S cue, no H-ace), and: - partner, you can RKC. I don't have exactly 2 aces - I have a 3cD - I have a good hand (aces) for my 3NT bid ...? Thanks, Koen
  13. does vulnerabilty change expected value for 2S bid of south?
  14. teams; IMPs[hv=pc=n&s=sqjt62hk7da76ct74&n=sak5hat2dqt982c82&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=2h(muiderberg)pp2sp3h(invite)p3sppp]266|200[/hv] 2♥=Muiderberg; Weak with 5c♥ and 4+c minor LHO did lead ♦J, making 3♠+3. Does vulnerability matter for NS bids? Can South be much weaker for his balancing bid and is it correct for North not to blast game? (Maybe this is more partnership agreement, if it is: what is yours?)
  15. Easy thinking. I should be able to do that  ...RHO had ♠QJ doubleton. Thanks both for the comments!! (It made me thinking of the offer you have done some time ago to analyse a number of all day hands. There is more in a hand then the non-experts see. More is known then we think)
  16. Suppose the play starts: ♠8 (3rd/5th) covered by 9, J and K ♣K, unblocking ♣T ♣ to ♣A, LHO discarding ♥2 (lavinthal) Do you cash ♣ first? What do you discard from dummy and how do you continue? Fluffy said to play ♦ to the K, Justin to run ♦J...what is best?
  17. Lead is 3th/5th, should lead small from H8x, but their leads are some mistery. I wanted to verify how obvious this was. I missed unblocking the ♣T. :( RHO had Jxxx of ♣. I'll hang a post-it in my room with this combination until I do it automatically
  18. [hv=pc=n&s=s32hkd2cakqjt9432&n=skqjt54hq72djt93c&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=2d(multi)p2n(asking)p3h(max%20Weak%202S)p4sppp]266|200[/hv] Lead was small ♣. I played 3 round of ♣, discarding ♥ from N, 3th ♣ ruffed by LHO with ♠A. LHO returned a small ♦ for RHO's ♦Q, followed by ♦K ruffed. I could now make +1, but was happy with contract. ...warned you that opps are weak! I wanted to verify if my bidding was ok, and from the answers it doesn't look like.
  19. After 2♦-2♥-2♠ we only agreed:3♠=preemptive 2NT=invites 4♠ I checked their pulse and didn't feel it. But I'm no doctor, so possibly I could have missed it.
  20. disappointing team result + going down when I could make = insomnia Can you help me cure my disease. All healers (beg to expert) welcome! [hv=pc=n&s=sk5ht963dk7ckq964&n=sat94ha5djt64cat7&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=2c(mini-precision)p2d(asks%204cMajor)p2hp3cp3nppp]266|200[/hv] 2♣=weak with ♣, if only 5c♣, then also a 4cMajor 2♦=do you have 4cM? 2♥=4c♥ 3♣=no 4c♥, probably 4c♠ 3N=it was not agreed, but hoped that partner had some points for asking the major instead of preempting 3♣ LHO leads ♠8. What is you plan for the first tricks?
  21. I had this hand a MP's (Opps are weak, does that influence your bid?) [hv=pc=n&s=s32hkd2cakqjt9432&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=2d(multi)p]133|200[/hv] Maybe not interesting, but it is a freak. What is your plan? 2NT: asking relay 3♣: ♣, invitational for 3NT 4♣: asks to transfer to 6cM 5♣: natural I choose 2NT and partner did bid 3♥: 6c♠ and max weak 2♠. What now? 4♠: to play 4♣: natural, forcing 5♣: voidwood for ♠
  22. 2♦ over 1♠: transfer ♥
  23. Thanks all for the answers. Question was probably too influenced by the result after the play. At the start of the play I didn't really mind the bidding :) score card was:3♣X -4: 1x 4♠=: 4x 2♠+3:1x 3♠+1:3x 2♠+2:2x 3♠=:1x 3♥-2:2x (This is a off-line tournament I play against Jack; other results are from real live) I don't know how 4 spade contracts were bid. Maybe more/other competition or a 3♠ bid by South East had: ♠Q7 ♥KJ982 ♦KQ ♣AK84 Play: ♣AK and 8 Now ♠K and ♠ to the A. and back to dummy with ♠T. ♣Q and ♦A followed by all trumps squeezes East.
