Walsh 4cH and long D in 4th suit
kgr replied to kgr's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Sorry, I was wrong in my post. After 1NT by opener 2C is strength asking, 2D transfer to H and 2NT is transfer to D. After 2C rebid by opener, 2D is to play. 1C-2S 2D This is the reverse of us (opener is supposed to bid 1NT or 2C with a weak hand) -
Walsh 4cH and long D in 4th suit

Not our cup of T-Walsh. We play 1♥=3c♥, focing In our T-Walsh version:1♣1♦ 1♥-? (1♥=3c♥) - 2♦=5c♥, inv+ - 3♦=4c♥, splinter - 2♠=4c♥, 6c♦, max limit strength 1♣1♦ 1♠-? - 2♦=4th suit GF - 3♦=splinter, 4c♠ - 4♦=void, 4c♠ - 5♦=voidwood 1♣-1♠! (transfer ♦ or transfer NT) 1NT-2♦ (2♦=reverse strength) with our T-Walsh system I would choose: 1♣-3♦ = invite with ♦ -
right, I should have returned trump to give declarer the change for this nice play :)
-
It is only down with ♦A lead, but is that obvious? I have an entry with ♥A, but how likely was that?
-
This was the full deal: [hv=pc=n&w=skqj7hk93dq8754c6&n=s9853ha82dj6ct832&e=sAT62h64dkt932ca9&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=p1d(1+%20cD%20%5Bstrong%201C%5D)2n(Strong%205cH%2C%205cC)d(Spade)3c4sppp]366|300[/hv] 1♦ didn't really promise D, Opps play strong 1C. 2NT is a strong 2-suiter (13+), partner can also bid 1NT with good 4-4 or weaker 5-5. South leads ♥J, showing a 5cH an QJ (or a 6cH and JT). Heart K from dummy and your Heart A. I returned a ♣ and declarer easily made his contract. I thought that he could go wrong if we let him ruff a ♥. He could play a small ♠ to dummy. Neither Opps or we are experts. I thought that maybe ♥ return was better? Comments on the bidding also welcome: - 2NT showed a good 5-5, I guess that South cannot do more? - Should North do more with ♥A and 4c♣? - Do you agree with 3C?

This is related to my 5♦ defense post, but from team mates. Playing Walsh or T-Walsh and 4th suit GF (or invite+ if you want). How do you bid following hands? [hv=pc=n&s=sa7h8732dqjt8643c&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1cp1h(Walsh)p1sp]133|200[/hv] [hv=pc=n&s=sa7h8732dqjt863c2&d=n&v=0&b=1]133|100[/hv] [hv=pc=n&s=sa7hq732djt8632c2&d=n&v=0&b=1]133|100[/hv]

Thanks all for the answers Full hands were: [hv=pc=n&w=skt84hk4dakckj976&n=s532haqt5d72ca532&e=sa7h8732dqjt8643c&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=1c(16+pnts)p1h(8-9%20pts)p1n(balanced)p2c(stayman)p2sp3d(natural)p3np4n(blackwood)p5d(1-4%20of%204)ppp]366|300[/hv] Opps play strong Club. (It makes my defense worse, I find it more difficult for my focus). Partner starts the defense with ♠Q lead :(. This promises exactly 4c♠ for QJ. East takes the A in his hand and plays a Heart to the K and your Ace. This was deal 40. I played ♥Q and ♣A. I was afraid that declarer would finesse ♠ and trow a ♣ on the 3rd ♠. But, as said above, he could have done that before. And thinking about that: If declarer leads ♣ from dummy, I should duck. Note that declarer can still make after a ♦ return, but he will very likely go down.

Yes,dummy told me that he thought that declarer has a 4 card H.

Thanks Frances! Do you agree with play till now? (I didn't like the blockage I got, but I don't know if I should have played differently

After reading an interesting squeeze document (squeeze refresher.pdf by Marvin French), I decided to set a deal profile in Jack: South, North and West all 12+ HCP. And see if could find any squeezes against West. This was the 3rd hand with this deal profile. This is the situation after West returned a Heart: [hv=pc=n&s=sq3hdcqt96&w=sk765hj8dc&n=sat8hkdjc7&e=sj94hdcj54&d=s&v=e&b=3]266|300[/hv] The funny thing is that not West, but East is squeezed. This is a guard squeeze? (I didn't find this in the play).

a small spade.

See edit of OP for continuation: If you play a heart then LHO plays the Ten and return a heart if you duck. What now?

(It seems that LHO is 3=1 in D=C) [hv=pc=n&s=sq3h64dcqt96&n=sat8hk97djc7&d=s&v=e&b=3]166|200[/hv] EDIT: If you play a Heart then LHO plays the Ten and returns a small heart. What now?

Quantitative then? After the transfer opener bids 5m = cue, 5H=min,fit? I wonder if RKC is not better after the transfer if 3NT has only 2 pnt range?
-
After strong 3NT..f.i.: 2C-2D 3NT We play 4C baron and transfers, 4S minor slam try. Given these agreements, what should 4NT be?: 2C-2D 3NT-4D 4H-4NT 2C-2D 3NT-4C 4H-4NT

Thanks ♦Q. (Hope for my motivation that this is right :) )
-
so the question is: Is the Hexagon squeeze really useful, or can it always be executed as a guard squeeze? Note: I started reading these squeeze articles in search of double/compound squeeze examples. And I think that these double squeezes (...to start with) are useful for me. Not so much for the squeeze position, but to motivate me to be more attentive in the hope that I will recognize the position at the table sometimes. ...as long as that motivation will hold
-
That is similar to:[hv=pc=n&s=sh2dajca&w=sahkqdqc&n=s2ha8d5c&e=skh9dktc]399|300[/hv] what is basically a guard squeeze?
-
I think you minsunderstood this. The expert forum is only for expert players (expert player, not expert subject is important) to post in. That is my original question: elegant, but not useful at all?
-
So, can I conclude that the Hexagon squeeze is more elegant because squeezing a trick earlier, but in fact unneeded at the table?
-
I mean that the ♥J can also be ♥2 and that the guard threat in is not needed.
