  1. In my methods: 1♣-1♦! (1♣=2+C; 1♦=T-Walsh=♥) 3♦!-3NT! (3♦=splinter:12-14 or 18-19; 3NT=slam interest opposite 18-19) 4♥-AP
  2. 1) 12-14 or 18-19 2) No (15-17 and not good enough to bid game)
  3. there is some truth in this. Yes, in the sequence for the actual hand it would be 2♥. 2♠ shows a 3c♠ for us, with Hx we will (hopefully) support later. Going via 4SF only gives a problem if opener jumps & responders hand is not a clear-cut 4♣ bid, is it? 2♣ is artificial for us (3c♥ support OR real ♣, always 10+). With less than 15 pnts opener will bid 2♥ (6c♥) or 2♦ (5c♥). (not on the actual hand).Responder can then bid 2♠: GF 4c♠ & 5c♣. This shows the strength immediately, but shows the distribution less correct.
  4. Thanks for the answer. - We play that 2♣ is forcing. So I need to think if we should play 3♠ 15-17 or rather 18-19. (Maybe 15-17 is ok and opener has to make another move if he has 18-19) - "so 4♦ is the only available cue-bid": I agree that this is probably best, but it fits better with rest of our system that 4♣ is also cue for ♠.
  5. The question was triggered by this hand from Larry Cohens bidding practice:[hv=pc=n&w=sa932hada943cqt83&e=skq5hk8654dkca972&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=1hp1sp2cp2d(4SF)p2s(I%20shld%20have%20bid%203S%20here)p3cp3dp3hp3sp4c(RKC%20for%20C)p4d(1%20or%204)p6cppp]266|200[/hv] I forgot to jump to 3S, and that made the bidding easier. Maybe my partner also forgot that I had denied extras. If I would have bid 3S iso 2S than 4C is control for Spades. Then partner could not show the C-fit, except by bidding 6C.
  6. Yes 2D, Repeating the 1st suit is nothing to say. Yes, I'll show actual hand and the bidding in a later post. I forgot about the 3S jump with extras and that made the bidding easier.
  7. Thanks for the answer. Not sure, but I think it is better - contrary to fast arrival - to have extra strength for the jump in this case. (it also no arrival :) )
  8. Adding a reply in a desperate try to get an answer  Any special use for the jump in partners suit after a 4SF (GF); or is it better to never jump here?
  9. That is possible, but I think we should ignore that possibility and take 4D as a cue bid? I think you did mean hand 2? - DBL is both minors, looks the best start. - My partner agreed that he better bids 4S iso 4H - We have the agreement that 2NT in competitive auctions is never natural, but we never know what it is ;) ..It would be a good D-raise, better than bidding 3D.
  10. Ok, thanks Yes, easier if I start with 3D. I actually hesitated between 3H and 3D, but opted for 3H.
  11. #1 not quouted, all understood & agreed What do you mean with "4C shows values"? Isn't that natural then? In my post, I meant 4C by responder after openers 3H: that is a control for H? How should the bidding for the 2 hands go? Thanks, Koen
  12. Thank you for the answer!! (A bit disappointed that I only got one reply, maybe the it is too obvious?). We play:1♠-3♦=6c♦,invite And therefore repeating ♦ after a 2♦ 2/1 is GF. So, I agree even more with you: 4♦ and 4♥ should be both cues for ♣. Seems reasonable. These were both hands (from bidding practice of Larry Cohen that I email with my partner), and the bidding: [hv=pc=n&w=sahkdkjt765cqt762&e=sj2haqj965dq92ca4&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=1h1s2c(Transfer%20D%2C%20weak%20or%20strong)2s3hp3sp4dp4hppp]266|200[/hv] Note: 2♣ is transfer ♦: weak or strong (3♦ would be invite with 6c♦) We missed a good 6♦ contract. I was East and thought that 4♥ was a suggestion to play, partner thought it was control for ♦. We also play that 4♣ after the 3♥ bid is a cue for ♥, which make the West hand more difficult to bid.
  13. in addition to the ones listed by awm and free: - (1♣)-Transfer bids (and 1♠=4c♠ with longer ♦) - 1♦-(p)-: 1♥ and 1♠ switched (no really useful) - 1X-(1Y/DBL)-?: DBL/RDBL and other bids transfer (fits nicely with T-Walsh)
  14. 1♦-1♠ 2♣-2♥ (2H=4th suit GF) 3♠ Currently we have in our system 3♠ defined as 3c♠ with extras. But I wonder if it is not better to never bid 3♠ or have it better defined? Rem: In a bidding practice with my partner I forgot to bid 3♠ with a 3154 hand with extras and I did bid 2♠ instead. This allowed my partner to bid 3♣ and to find 6♣ contract. And with the jump this would give: 1♦-1♠ 2♣-2♥ (2H=4th suit GF) 3♠-4♣ => Is 4♣ a ♣-fit or control for ♠?...another unclear sequence
  15. SA; not 2/1 1) 1♠-2♦ 3♣-3♥ 4♣-? - What is 4♦ and 4♥ now? - Is 4♦ a ♣-fit and ♦-control OR a strong hand with long ♦ - does 4♥ deny a ♦ control? 2) 1♥-(1♠)-2♦-(2♠) 3♥-(Pass)-3♠-(Pass) 4♦-(Pass)-4♥ - Is 4♥ ♦-fit and cue OR Good hand with 2c♥? - If responder bids 4♣ iso 3♠: is that natural or cue for ♥?
  16. I play that 2♠ and 3♣ are mini-splinters (12-14 or 18-19) in the given examples; that is 2.5♥
  17. If East opens 1♥: anyone bids with the South hand?
  18. How would opener know that drury bidder does not have 5cH? I assume that any other bid promises extras, so opener does not really have a choice.
  19. If they open 1♥ in 3rd hand with f.i.: KJx=x=Qxxx=xxxxx (Suppose Brown sticker conventions and psyches are allowed). Given the conditions: one of the players told me that it is a good psych; when partner bids 2C - Drury - then he always has to pass a 2H rebid. They already did this before and opps were surprised that partner passed the 2M with 5c support, 11HCP and extra distribution. Do you consider this as a partnership agreement or as a psych? If partnership agreement: what alert (pre-alert) is needed?
  20. Belgium A friend a me told that they play: P-1M 2C-2M 2C=Drury 2M=Partner you have to pass!! They can easily psych 1M. When responder has 11 pnts with a 5cM he will still pass. Is this allowed? Is it allowed if 1M is alerted with explanation?: often a psych. Is it allowed without this alert/explanation?
  21. f.i: 1C-1H 1S-2D 3NT Or: 1C-1H 2C-2D (2D=GF Bourke relay) 3NT From an old post of me, I'm now convinced that 3NT is not a good bid here ...or should be very specific. (also from http://squeezingthedummy.blogspot.be/2005/06/fast-arrival_16.html ) We had this 3NT defined as 12-14, but we now want to define it more narrowly. What would you choose? : - 12-14 very balanced, with xx (no honor) in partners suit.(Almost) always 4432. double stop in 4th suit (my preference because it is very natural for 3NT, and sometimes we support partner the 2nd time with Hx because we play T-Walsh and can support the first time with a 3-card). - 12-13, with Hx (top honor) in partners suit. no singleton and double stop in 4t suit (my parnter's choice. - Any 15-17 balanced, with double stop - never bid 3NT in this sequence - something else?
  22. Thanks. Not enough for a non-vulnerable invite then. Also not if vulnerable, considering that partner will ofter accept an invite with 10HCP
  23. Thanks!what if north has 4 spades and 11 (10) points? Is an invite ok if he has 4 spades?
  24. assuming weak stayman, non-forcing. In fact we play a version of Heeman, and therefore weak stayman is not available. With this hand we can only transfer to ♠. Partner will bid 2♠ with a 3c♠ or 4=3=3=3; he bids 2NT with 4c♠ max; and bids 3♠ with 4c♠ and min. Is it also a sign off opposite a 4c♠ and max?
