System is a bit worse then SA, but wouldn't you have the similar issue with SA? Thanks for bidding anyway :) Problem given by teammates, I don't know yet what the actual hands were. I passed with no great enthusiasm. Yes, 3♠ would be values in Spades (for 3NT) & 4♦ does not promise a ♠-cue. (One could argue to bid 3♠ as an advanced cue and continue over 3NT, but that would give too many issues if partner bids 4♥..or should he never?) It is unlikely he has length, but can't he have like AJx?

How bad is it then to bid directly 5H? Can you rate DBL, 4S and 5H and 4NT?

We play:3♦=transfercue: 4c♠, GF (Opener: 3♥=no 4c♠,no stop // 3♠=4c♠ // 3NT=to play) 3♥=Transfer ♠, invite+ => our 3♦ bid is not really needed because this can start with DBL. So your structure looks better. 2♠ NF clearly better than DBL?

Is there a rule that defines when support to 5M is asking a control in opps suit for 6M? Something like?: If opps preempt and you can not show strong support for partner's 4M with a cue-bid (e.g in example 5 minor is natural and strong) then 5M asks control in opps suit (and 5 in opps suit is slam-try with control). E.g.: (3C)-p-(4C)-DBL (p)-4H-(p)-5H (3H)-p-(4H)-DBL (p)-4S-(p)-5S

Not really :)This problem was sent to us by a friend. My partner choose 4♠, that friend 4NT (minors) and I 5♥ (hoping it is a slam try for any suit). I didn't like DBL with a void at this level when partner will often pass and we play 4♥X when we have slam.

It seems that there is a consensus that South should pass, but there is some disagreement about balancing by North: Clearcut reopening 3♣, obvious pass, DBL? What style should I go for (who is best the player of repliers till now :rolleyes: ?)
