with no weak two opener forthcoming from west, south opens 1 diamond, pass north bids 1 heart pass back to me as South, how do I value my singleton K spades I actually bid 2 clubs 2nd time around writing off the 3 hcp for the K spades (this is what I am not 100% sure about (can someone help in explaining of hand evaluation on this)

when you discard from a suit and you want to show low for discouraging example you dont want heart or diamond but you want a spade lead as hearts are in play (and you dont have a high spade to signal with) do you discard the higher suit i.e. diamonds and this would imply the higher suit wanted? assuming no hints from dummies cards ( if that is possible)

1♥ 2♦ 3♦ 3♠ This was item four in another post, I had this exact bidding the other day, and I elected to take 3 spades as a cue for diamonds (I am not sure why, sometimes I try and over complicate things and try to think like an expert with disasterous consequences) can some one explain in detail, how you know which it is either asking for stop in spades telling stop in spapes asking heart stop or cue for slam I just have some confusion here and would appreciate knowing what the correct way to continue is or peoples personal way of dealing with this Thank you

Hi, I wonder if someone can help me with a partnership / relationship problem I was sitting in the Pub (a nice quaint little Hostelry / Inn in some romantic village in england) I intended to propose to my girlfriend, a candle lit dinner, a four piece string quartet and a beautiful suite booked for the weekend. (I am posting this here as she was also my bridge partner (in case anyone wondered the relevance of my post) Anyway back to the point, she had invited her sister and her husband to join us for a weekend of bridge, as I had never met her before, what ensued next was traumatic to me and I need some help here as I have no idea why she walked out and left me (I lost a good bridge partner) We were sitting at the bar and in walked her sister, I turned around to my girlfriend and said "so you got the brains in the family". I think west is solely to blame for not signing off in 4 spades first he has a diamond singleton 3 bad spades and wasted values in clubs (I have made wests bids many times and paid a painful price) East is NOT to blame as west knows he is over excitable and should not have encouraged him. hahah (light hearted comments) IMHOFWIW

But, I am still interested in how to proceed for the slam as I think it is a good slam to be in 50/50 with two fineses comments welcomed (except the obvious one about being an idiot for not agreeing a system with your p first and then quitting half way through a bid or making a bid with no agreement :lol:)

I would open 1 spade and rebid two spades over 2 hearts IU am curious what is so bad about downgrading the spade suit to a 4 card suit if you are so worried about a 2 heart rebid?

well I voted for 3 hearts, the heart suit is solid and the singleton spade must increase ur points to 3 hearts, 2 diamonds seems to be a weak cop out imho (but I could be very wrong with that opinion) 2 hearts is a gross underbid I think

I just read step by step Discarding, by Danny Roth, I think this is suitable for intermediates, though the chapters on avoiding endplay and discarding against squeezes, I found to be a bit harder to understand fully and I will probably have to read those chapters again a few times, before I am happy that I understand them fully. I like the style they are written in and the examples given helped me to understand the concepts he was teaching.

Ok, would you agree that anyone who bids like this should not critisise people who frequent the BIL lounge for being weak players if the answer is No, then I would suggest that the real south bidder, keep his comments about weak players in BIL to him self and take his head out of his backside and keep his rather distasteful comments to himself Thank You
