1) this is matchpoints i'll go with 1♠ if partner has 4 small ♠ could just bid 3N over 2N to make and not look for 4-4♠ fit which will produce an extra trick here from ♥ruff 2) 3♠/4♠ does it matter 3♠ cause your ♠ bad 4♠ you have doubleton & maybe your partner opens solidly 3) no partner didnt splinter in♣ so partner needs all but 1 of these cards to make slam ♠Q ♥ AK ♦ K ♣AK if he had that good a hand would have used 4th suit forcing 4)3♣ new minor forcing
-
you have a 6 loser hand(avg opening is 7). however you dont have much for your opening. I'd be worried 4♥ makes so bid 5♦ maybe it makes or not but its not getting killed
-
yes can pass, as partner is passes hand but.. wouldn't 14 pts opposite 10-12 with least a 9 card fit all suits stopped, 3 T's 2 9's i wouldn't disagree with risking a 3N but at least give it a college try with 2N B-)

reverse bids obsolete
steve2005 replied to qwyz's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Surely after 1♦-1♠ with min hand 5♦4♥ you rebid 1N, sometimes 2♦ with good ♦weak ♣ or 2♠ with Hxx and 1♣ and 2♥ shows extras. is this no longer considered good bridge? i don't think so. or maybe i'm getting old!? -
robot playing high for no reason on defense
steve2005 replied to steve2005's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
today in 1N declarer is playing hearts robot must discard throws A♦ from AQxx with Kxx in dummy, costing setting trick -
[hv=pc=n&s=s9874hakjt532d9c3&n=st53h9764d8ca9652&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=pp3hp5hp6hppp]266|200[/hv] i forgot robot was a passed hand (robot dealer), was trying to figure out what 5H was assumed bid 6H with good hearts the explanation for 5H was 1H. so was this a legit 5H bid or is it a bug? was in the play 4 hand game

why would you pass 3♣, most play sys on so 3♣ has 4♠ youve just lucked out can bid 3♠

Constructive raise, limit, or gf?
steve2005 replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
2♥-2n-4♠ my vote too, not an option not a blah hand has a singleton and a 5 card suit headed by AK -
in the "Play Bridge - 4 hands" ive noticed the robot on defense sometime plays unnecessarily high cards following suit example: AKJxx in declarer's hand Qxx in robot defender declareR plays A robot plays Q! another: declarer KJxxxx of trump robot QT declare plays K, I play A and robot plays Q! obviously i cant prove this happened as games aren't saved but keep an eye out for this

Twice i had this happen. been a substitute completed the bidding play a few cards and boom the original player comes back to the seat. this i believe only started happening recently. before only happened after finishing a hand. while i appreciate you want to return the original player. coming in the middle of play will be hard as dont know what cards have been played, nor even the original hand.

Bidding with GIB robot
steve2005 replied to frank0's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
6N is incredibly bad. robot's playing 2/1 what's the rush, surely 2N or 3♣ would have been better. cant think of a 20-24 pt hand where 7♥ or 7N isn't a possibility and 6♣ or 6♥ might even be safer on a lot of hands. My guess would be 1 or 2 ♥(not K) and semi-solid ♣ that said i wouldn't bid 7, as surely partner cant have K♥ to make a pre-emptive bid like this. -
ok looking for odds of making a slam depending on a side suit, assuming there is no ruff after losing ace of trump or opening lead. you need to have 3 club high card tricks for one pitch and you only have one side entry to club suit. need to pick of Q♣ with AJTxx opposite Kx finessing would be 50% plus chance of singleton Q. though if Q singleton and ♣ led then lose A♠ ♣ ruff possible. so what about going AK ruff a ♣? works on any 3-3 or 4-2 with Q doubleton what are the odds? again half the singleton a ♣ ruff possible
-
3♦ bad too - if you don't bid 2♠ at first chance then do so at second opportunity. now you have shown 6-5 and can pass 4♥ knowing you haven't missed a black suit fit. thinking about slam is very optimistic with no fit

This can't be right
steve2005 replied to straube's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
if you opened light wouldn't bidding a direct 2♠ show a light hand with 6+♠ and passing and pulling double to 2♠ be light with 5♠ and can scramble if need be. isnt it pretty clear 2♥ will make with partner passed hand -
3rd seat weak 2s with strong club
steve2005 replied to straube's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Why not include 14-15 pts with clubs in 1♦? That way you can get out at 2 level, while still have possibility of investigating game if partner has decent hand for a pass. Both minors 5-5 as 2N would be better. This would still be ACBL GCC, if that matters. Opening 1♦ on both minors makes opp finding major suit fit easier -
1♣ . sure this is 3-loser but if you have no fit and partner can't respond to 1♣ is more like a 6-loser hand, no intermediates your gonna lose all tricks but your A/K's. If you play weak jump shifts, you can bid & make game after a 2♥/2♠ response
-
Drury or Reverse Drury(preferred) is very good even playing Precision and well worth the effort. It allows you to play in 2M while still investigating for game. It is one of few artificial methods allowed under ACBL GCC to do that, you can't use Drury after 1st or 2nd seat opening which would be very useful playing Precision. Would not choose to use 2-way as you lose the natural 2♦response, having already lost natural 2♣ response. If you open 4 card majors 3rd or 4th seat suck it up and play in occasional 4-3.

Does anyone still bid strong one club?
steve2005 replied to tytobyto's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
1 level penalties just dont pay. so i dont think a system to penalize at 1-level overcall will pay-off, too easy they make or penalty not enough. should get to right level and denomination. -
Quantitative or Blackwood?
steve2005 replied to dickiegera's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I agree, sure if you have agreed on an extended agreement of what 3 levels bids or are playing 2-way nmf. I dont play with people wanting to have an extensive system over nmf. So i need 3H as invitational -
Bidding to a slam
steve2005 replied to silvr bull's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
never mind, thought u meant the 7D bid -
Quantitative or Blackwood?
steve2005 replied to dickiegera's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
4N definitely 14/30 with ♥ as trump having just magically found a 4-4 fit. lol dont know why asking Blackwood, only possible ace is useless A♥ and you'll have no more information towards 6 or 7 ♠ should have bid 3♠ as forcing with 5♠ (unless you play 2♠ as forcing then do that instead) and go on from there -
Balance against dubious 1D
steve2005 replied to Toradin's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
if 1♦ precision, which wasn't mentioned in 1st post. Then there is a lot to be said for doubling 1♦ immediately(not waiting for 1N bid) as takout for majors and doesn't promise any length in either minor, limiting your hand to a bad 12 pts. -
Yes is ok open 2♣ has at least 8.5 tricks. but why? could have only 1 defensive trick with AK♥ easily be opposite avoid by opposition. what do you do if opponent bid 4♠/5 of a minor, possibly even before you have a chance to bid 4♥? partner is goona double on wrong hands expecting you to have some defense. opening 1♥ wont miss a game, if partner cant bid you wont make game on almost any hand he could have. 4♣ as a strong ♥ would describe your hand, depending on how you define it, if you play it.

6NT, you want to be in it and play?
steve2005 replied to kgr's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
i dont think bidding 20% slams good way to come first. lol -
Exclusion Blackwood
steve2005 replied to Free's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
even or odd just asking for a mess-up where your not sure how many KC's. if you don't have room to get the answer u need, sign-off or blast to final contract.
