Normally I would open 1M in that point range. However, the suit quality in your 2 suits is so exceptional and your hand is a 4 loser hand so, I would open 1♣ and rebid the major twice.

Without Minorwood...
steve2005 replied to 32519's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
clarification of terminology 3♣-4♦ and 3♦-4♥(assuming ♥ not in play as trump) as Keycard is called Redwood (because it uses the red suits as a minor suit keycard ask) and your using 4N as KC/1430 for the majors of course, if your also using 4♠ as KC for ♥ then everything is referred to as Kickback -
2/1 GF or SAYC-style responses to limited 1M opening?

What does canonical GF mean? -
welcome to see results from other tables click on the board you want to see in the results screen. then click on other tables tab at top. this doesn't work in tournaments until tournament is finished also there is a new quick guide out, you should be able to see where to click in middle near top

An RKC 0314 Bidding Situation
steve2005 replied to Adam1105's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
4N quantitative. what do you do with 16 pts and 4H , you bid 4N to keycard in spades you need to do an artificial raise first(3♥) or you can just say 4♣ is keycard gerber for ♠ (or for ♥ over 2♥) obviously you would have to discuss this with partner -
there is no option to disable in the web based bbo. in the older windows version of bbo there is an option to disable, but it doesn't work. (ive tried it for some time three years ago)

partner opened in 3rd seat, pass cant be forcing. 3♠ isn't invitational, 3♥ is the inv. so wouldn't be in a forcing pass situation for a 1st or 2nd seat opening either
-
Yes, I think double should be values in one or more majors that way you can later double a major for penalty and opener might be able to double the other major. similar methods are used with unusual vs unusual guess you scramble if nobody can double opponents major

1D opening and subsequent bidding
steve2005 replied to Nirmalya's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
I don't mind a 3+ ♦ requirement for 1♦ openings. is only 3 when exactly 4-1-3-5 or 1-4-3-5 without good clubs or maybe your requiring 6♣ to open 2♣ then 1N is opened with good 12 plus normal 13-15 passing 11 pt (or bad 12 pt) balanced hands isn't such a bad thing especially if your not an expert the BBO precision forum convention card uses this method -
Lately the ACBL directors are saying full disclosure card does not take the place of an alert. and could face penalty for not alerting. reason full disclosure "descriptions" do no show up as alerts when look at the board after it has been played. the director says he cant see the alert. and lastly the description sometimes doesn't show up for opposition(I don't see how that is possible but that's what director said) from my stand point a full disclosure card is potentially a lot of work and I think it is unfair because your partner sees the description which doesn't happen when partner alerts his bid

How about an Alert Manager? It would work like the Chat Manager does for chat. that way you wont have to endlessly type "could be as short as 2♣" especially useful if you have lots of artificial bids and play speedball

GCC Question about overcall of 1N
steve2005 replied to steve2005's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
GCC says "7. DEFENSE TO: b) Natural notrump opening bids and notrump overcalls, except that direct calls, other than double and two clubs must have at least one known suit. " so ruled restriction is on direct calls not balancing calls. on the theory that " Once the auction has gone 1NT pass pass the defensive systems have less to do with how the opening side can communicate." I asked him specifically about 2♦ as either major (part of Multi-Landy), but should apply to almost anything this was from Dan rulings@acbl.org -
GCC Question about overcall of 1N
steve2005 replied to steve2005's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Its official. I asked for a ruling from ACBL. and it came back. Multi-Landy is legal in balancing seat. or for that matter any system goes in balance. -
just wondering if there is a consensus on what range to use for 1N when using transfer Walsh?
-
I vote 2♣ inverted
-
Not sure what "M/m/diamonds" means? Yes what does your original double mean? Diamonds or both majors?
-
I agree opp could easily have 8 card fit in♥
-
never mind
-
I agree 5♦ likely goes for big numbers. i'm not even going to bid 3♦ let them think im a balanced minimum maybe they wont find their game. bidding 3♦ will let them know they're working with a 30 pt deck as one or both opps will have short ♦

can't double then bid suit naturally
steve2005 replied to Stephen Tu's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Yes, that does sound strange, you've shown some ♥ with your double you should be able to bid naturally. The sequence 1♣-P-1♥-2♣ is defined as natural on GIB CC as would 2♥. So it accepts the possibility in some instances. -
Responding to 1NT with Minor Suit and Game Values
steve2005 replied to eagles123's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
How bout 3♣ invitational? Sure your a little heavy but K♦ may (and was ) be useless and unless partner has A♣ you not favoured to make 3N. -
GCC Question about overcall of 1N
steve2005 replied to steve2005's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Double and 2♣ in direct seat don't need a known suit so ok -
GCC Question about overcall of 1N
steve2005 replied to steve2005's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
the restriction of having an known suit appears to apply only in a direct overcall. This makes some sense as opp have had a chance to make there bids with no interference.(edit sentences got mixed up) so balancing anything goes. This makes some sense as opponents have had a chance to bid their system unimpeded. also there is another spot on GCC which allows conventional balancing conventions calls. from GCC "COMPETITIVE 1. CONVENTIONAL BALANCING CALLS" -
GCC Question about overcall of 1N
steve2005 replied to steve2005's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
that's great. I want to use 2♦ as an unnamed 6 card major, plus it means 2♣ can be for majors which is better than 2♦ s in cap. also means you can use crash in balance, not as destructive as in direct but still could cause headaches for opener
