Negative Double Question
steve2005 replied to Adam1105's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I try for 4♥ if opponents are bidding that high odds are you wont have a true pen double so best pen come when you show you have values and opener leaves in with defense the people who put 7♥/7♠ are just making a point -
How To Make East Declarer
steve2005 replied to eagles123's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
what's E dicking around for, there is no slam potential, there is only 1 possible contract, why let in a lead directional or sacrifice suggesting bid by S. Just bid 4♥ -
hand 1 - solid hearts by responder, driving to slam or at least making that 5♥ bid GIB likes to make hand 2 & 3 too much of a fit and control heavy would not just bid 4♥ would bid 4♦, GIB probably should bid 5♥ it likes that bid appreciate your effort but the problem is if opener heavy in queens and jacks and has pts in spades but not AK (Q) which will be handy
-
doubt you have agreed on this. and big difference between a leaping Michaels over a weak 2 6-10 pts than a 1♠-2♠ raise where their partnership has 19-29 pts
-
You don't need to double for hearts and a min hand. if partner has hearts they will have enough values to bid again. if you have hearts with reversing values you bid hearts. so double should be card-showing usually a flawed NT. i agree with mfa1010

how nice a hand? it would be helpful to see the hand. if opener had good fit for you he could have made a squeeze bid 4♦ to announce interest in slam (without setting trump) Don't know if GIB has this probably not but good human bid lol opener could have 4 or 5 good spades and slam is doomed with 4♥ bid

Using Precison system for overcall of 1C
steve2005 replied to steve2005's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
I don't think this is an inversion of 1N and double. im suggesting 1N overcall as 14-16 which is basically strong. inverting and playing 12-14 1N overcall would be a poor strategy imho as you don't have the pre-emption advantage of a weak NT and have all the disadvantages plus they might have an edge on what to lead. 1♥/1♠ overcall basically the same 1♦ different but I always found 1♦ overcall a waste of time. So instead using 1♦ on a lot of hands you would do a minimum takeout double plus Michael's hands so I think I'm more inverting double with 1♦ I'm not adverse from also using 1♦ for min takeout doubles 4-3 in majors -
I open all 12 point hands. 3 or 4 times a year I get a crappy 12 pt hand like this and open it anyways. this one isn't so bad a 6 card suit with a simple rebid. every time you pass partner has a crappy 10/11 he thinks he can't open and you miss a nice part-score.

I guess 2♣ is new minor forcing so 3♣ is 5+♣ but not forcing only INV I think you should pass 3♣ as are a minimum

Pitfalls of conventions?
steve2005 replied to phikappaph's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
problem with using 3♣/3♦ as 2 suiter you lose the natural pre-empt which is effective. also Ghestem(3♣) has the same problem -
How would you bid it? And what would you lead?
steve2005 replied to 1eyedjack's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
good God! 4N is Blackwood of some sort. you've both jump-shifted surely there has to be a way to check if you have all the aces. your gonna have lots of tricks for 7 maybe even 8 lol -
wow surely it has to be a rule once you have doubled a contract for penalty follow-up doubles are also for penalty!
-
I don't understand why GIB took a bid. I count the hand as 5 pts 1 pt for doubleton, but its in Q & J's real ugly! odds certainly favour passing and if opponents compete can proudly bid 2♥ only explanation is GIB is trying to show a 5-7 pt raise and the explanation wasn't changed when this change put into effect. also don't understand final pass, 3♥ got to be a better spot than 2♠ partner after all reversed so 3 level should be safe
-
Since Precision deals well with a double of 1♣ why can't you turn the tables and double opp 1♣ opening to show a precision 1♣. briefly the system would be double = 17+ pts bal or 16+ then play your normal methods and if rho competes use our methods over interference 1♦ = 4-4 in majors 11-15 or 5-4 or better in majors 8-15 1♥/1♠ = normal overcall 1N = 14-16 pts balanced 2♣ = weak 2 in ♦ 2♦ = 11-15 pts 5+♦ 2♥/2♠ = normal pre-empt 2N = unusual 2N ♦ & ♥ 3♣ = Ghestem ♦ & ♠ {edit] replace 2 bids below should you ever get 20-21 pts you can double 2N = 20/21 pts bal 3♣ = unusual 2N ♦ & ♥ you also should be able to do something similar after a 1♦ opening but im not familiar with big ♦ openings

puppet Stayman on ACBL conc car
steve2005 replied to steve2005's topic in Suggestions for the Software
wow such prompt service ! lol -
for the ACBL convention card please change the puppet Stayman to be in black in its 2 spots 1N & 2N. It is no longer alertable so shouldn't be in red. been so for over a year. his will quickly solve some arguments when a person thinks it is alertable.

yes crazy jump but double is the right bid. big hand can play in any suit but ♠

GIB make a good judgement and well played
steve2005 replied to lycier's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
done mean to spoil your fun but 4♥ should be down 1 -
north passing with 19 pts is bad north knows their pretty well game forced
-
GIB 2♥ bid gross underbid partner has bid 1N so has 2-3♥ and responder has 10 HCP + a singleton not in opener's first bid suit I think I want to be in game at imps whenever partner has 3♥ and INV otherwise even a 5-2 fit might make game if opener a max Note the difference from other hand lycier posted3H rebid where GIB makes a 3♥ INV with no guarantee of a fit as opener had rebid a suit not NT

GIB tell same story twice with same values
steve2005 replied to lycier's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
if my partner is a zabriskan fontema. and bids that way I put him in 4♥ and let him stew in it. lol -
GIB tell same story twice with same values
steve2005 replied to lycier's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
surely counting shortness in partner's opening suit is counter productive -
yes hand lack aces but has excellent source of tricks and a 6-loser hand certainly not a minimum
