  1. I thought the opp call was 4♠ so I doubled. obviously wrong should do 5♦
  2. GCC says "7. DEFENSE TO: b) Natural notrump opening bids and notrump overcalls, except that direct calls, other than double and two clubs must have at least one known suit. " does this mean that balancing calls don't have the restriction of at least one known suit for 2♦(the one im interested in) 2♥ & 2♠ ?
  3. 3N as a good major pre-empt. I concur it has to be a solid suit to qualify for GCC
  4. for balancing 1N gib now uses systems on. is the convention card going to be updated? old is 2♣ cappilleti overvall of 1N gib plays systtems on, this has never been updated on cc
  5. so what does 1♦-1N-2♥-2♠ mean? i see its not 4th suit, but cant be natural
  6. click for blackout on wikipedia Responder then rebids as follows: A rebid of his own suit shows five or more cards in the suit and is forcing for one round, but does not promise any extra strength. The cheapest bid of the fourth suit is forcing and 2NT shows exactly four cards in his own suit and a minimum hand for his 1-over-1. The non-cheapest bid of the fourth suit is forcing and 2NT shows exactly four cards in his own suit, forcing to game but not suitable for any higher bid. A preference back to the opening suit or raising the reverse-suit are both natural, game-forcing with mild slam-try or better.
  7. your bidding reasonable, robot has a screw loose. obviously cant have 6♠ or you would bid spades first
  8. So i gather that Lebensohl now also uses 4th suit as the negative bid if lower than 2N. this only happens after any 1♣2♦ reverse, 1♣-1NT-2♥ or 1♦-1N-2♥
  9. there was an article on reverses on thee bbo lonline within the last month. has anyone seen this posted on the web. what im looking for is the name of the convention. similar to Lebensohl where is used the lower of 4th suit and 2N as the weak bid. ie 1♣-1♠-2♦- 2♥ is the weak bid
  10. 2♣ this a great hand, sure no A's and Q♠ is not pulling its weight, even with out QS have 10 pts However, you want partner to lead ♣ against NT and probably suit contracts too and this might be last chance to mention them.
  11. if playing transfer Walsh is transfers still normally played in 3rd/4th seat transfer walsh over 1♣ 1♦=♥ 1♥=♠ 1♠=balanced or minors i would think not playing transfers would be good as you can open light in 3rd/4th and pass responders 1 bid and play at 1 level for example P-P-1♣-P-1♥-all pass
  12. trick 8 at trick 8 i EAST lead 5♣ SOUTH plays 9♣(Edit: correct to 9C from 8C) the last ♣(other than robot) Robot WEST with KT8 left plays the 8 giving a trick. double dummy -2 (edit correct to -2 from -3) if play T -3(edit correct to -3 from -2) if play 8, people have shown out of trump so should be able know hands playing T is so obvious, no he not going to be endplayed\he can just pump declare by coninue to lead ♣
  13. well if partner started with KTxxx of ♠ is likely making. if parter has KTxx of ♠ its ♠ to K followed by ruff and cash A♣ -1. i dont see much other play
  14. 2♥ has gotta be odds on to make, unless opp really unlucky. at imps not chancing. i vote 3♦ sure 8 card fit, hopefully make or -1
  15. 2♥ by a passed hand, is a support fit jump so shows 4+ clubs (explanation given) still 3N seems odd. i would bid 3H min hand if opener doesnt like ♥ can bid 3N or 4♣ the 3♦ bid explanation says nothing about ♠ so dont think can assume stopper. 3N explanation interesting, says has partial spade stopper lol
  16. Maybe it doing a highpoint penalty !? by that i mean it had 6 pts (or 8 pts in 2nd hand) or whatever and partner has good hand. it runs some simulations gets 50.1% of -1 so it leaves double in for +200. madness going for low-level penalty when your side has probable fit, and our side likely has no trump tricks
  17. for ♣ really need split honors or east to have KQx. so will play small ♣ just in case its KQx. ♠ situation doeasnt matter, will only get 1 trick unless defense fumbled and rises or leads ace. wether you make or not depends on placement of A and J ♦. take a pick who has what.
  18. 7CX first why bid ♠ has safer in 6♣. Surely a 99% 6♣ is better than what could be a 50% 6♠ Is there is 2 ♠ losers? why run from double? its cold, but thats beside the point, no assurance that 7♣ makes and 6♠doesnt, unlikely to be >50%. Heck if double accurate 7♣ may be down 2 and your just contracting for an extra down trick. the explanation of my bid was 21+pts (explanation went away so not exact), so very concievable off an Ace(we are in fact off 2 aces but 1 opposite void, joker made a preemptive jump with a big hand) I was simply offerring a choice of slams, but robot doesnt understand that. just venting, had terrible partners in individuals today and then robot lets me down in what should have been a top.
  19. shouldnt even double 2N. My understanding of ununusal vs unusual this shows defense against one of overcaller's suits. I think should cuebid (3♦?) to show limit+ raise in ♣ 3♥ would be GF with ♠
  20. the reason you want to play in 1N XX is: if responder has a big hand so that 3N or some other game contract make 50% of time or more you may have to blast to a 50% game rather than playing in 1N X for 380 losing MP's to a game if it makes. A sure 1N redoubled will give a top board, but maybe thats a pipe dream. Will opponents actually sit for double? it has happened.
  21. 3♥ looking for partner to have a ♥ stopper so you have time to set-up your tricks if you don't have 9 top tricks but i think 3♠ is the practical bid, just unfortunate your down
  22. This is pretty well the only method listed, where you can be weak and try to find a 4-4 fit. This is an important method to escape. Zelandakh gives "Better is to play XX as showing a 1-suiter and direct bids are 2-suited...but this is also more open to a misunderstanding" yes, playable but i would think prone to a mistake where opener forgets and think responder a 1-suiter What if the double is artificial? Then I still want to play normal system, but double could be converted for penalty. So, I think you need a system which can escape using extra bids of pass and redouble while other bids retain their normal meaning. Redouble->puppet to 2♣ to escape to long minor Pass->asks opener to show a 5-card suit, with none opener redoubles After redouble-> responder passes to play in 1NXX -> responder bids 4+ card suits up the line till a 4-3 or better fit is found by no means perfect but relatively simple. doesnt handle weak 4333 hands very well unable to penalize opponents with 1N opener having 5 card suit and responder strong
  23. i think if you play 1♦-2♣ GF you really need 1♦-3♣ as INV with 6♣ rather than usual weak jump-shift
  24. worked now dont know why didnt work before - didnt do anything different
