Can't play game; only slam or partial
steve2005 replied to Bbradley62's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
What about bidding 3NT. maybe GIB will like that spot. Will beat 3N , 4♣ & 5♣ and lose to 6♣ -
along similar lines to half-puppet is modified baron from Precision bidding in Acol by Eric Crowhurst 3♦= denies 5♠ and 4 or 5 ♥ 3♥= 4 ♥ may have 4♠ 3♠= 5 ♠ 3NT = 5♥ and 2NT-3♣-3♦-3♥ shows 5♥ and 4♠ as dont need bid to show 4♥ because opener has denies 4♥ A 4♣/4♦ followup by responder is usually looking for a minor suit fit

1NT (2Minor) X Takeout
steve2005 replied to thebiker's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
1N-(2♦)-X-(pass)-2♥-(pass)-3♦ forcing probably with 4 spades or a mega hand -
Best meaning for 1H -3NT and 1S - 3NT
steve2005 replied to Cthulhu D's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
I would have to disagree with the balanced hand principle. If a jump showing a balanced hand is narrowly defined(a picture bid) it serves its purpose. I would suggest 3NT as showing 13-15 HCP(or could even more narrowly defined as 14-15) 4 trump and 4333 distribution. This type of hand has is hard to show without overbidding, as has no ruffing potential. Opener may be able to picture a dummy reversal, a hand that can make 3NT on power or a hand where 6M or 6NT is playable. I also like some other suggestions, 13-15 3343 or 3343, 16-18 balanced and as a splinter in other major -
I think you have overlooked one option finess in ♦ if succeeds will have 6♣3♦1♥3♠=13 tricks. would really like to know the ♦spot for opening lead
-
6NT This is silly bidding but.. Robot leads a small ♦ from Jxxxx with ♠A86 ♥ AT9 ♣ T9 i have 7 running ♣ partner has AKQTx of diamonds lead brings us up to 11 tricks now run all the ♣ and GIB is squeezed out of an ace or J♦ Unfortunaly my partner didnt find this play

2HX from above hand bidding went P-1♥-1♠-P P-2♥-P-P X- all pass surely this is my first opportunity to double it must be takeout. Description of double said i had biddable hearts(so it thinks PEN), but if i had hearts and the values for a double surely i would have earliear bid the approriate level of NT

Here gib bids 1NT so it can show a 3 card limit raise see link>bid 1NT shouldnt GIB show 5 card spade suit with 1♠ then make a limit raise in hearts later later i found this hand. partner opens 1♥ and Gib bids 1♠ with [hv=pc=n&n=sTxxxhcAKQJTxxxx]133|100[/hv] so gib will show a crappy 4 card spade suit in preference to a solid 9 card club suit but wont show a good 5 card suit with 3 card heart support

2NT-3NT artificial
steve2005 replied to mgoetze's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
If one is using puppet styman doesnt the number of hands you would bid 2N-3NT go down considerably? Then it would make some sense to use a gadget in 3NT. -
If 3C shows either minor
steve2005 replied to Cthulhu D's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Semi-sold 6+ Diamonds plus one outside entry invitational to 3NT with right hand. If you use 2♠ or 2NT as your minor preempt you can have 3♣ have similar meaning for clubs -
ok see it now thanks

hand GIB says you can make 7♦ on a ♣ lead i just dont see it

suit symbol shortcuts
steve2005 replied to bridgeladd's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
i have a full word 2010. You probably have the one that comes with the computer i guess, that doesnt have outlook. Should work with that too though, the word part is the same -
suit symbol shortcuts
steve2005 replied to bridgeladd's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Not a Word 2010 expert but this will work. go insert->symbols -> other symbols find ♣ and click on press [shortcut key] a window will popup press the key combination you want to use I used alt-Q for ♣ alt-w for ♦ alt-e for ♥ alt-r for ♠, but anything unansigned will do press assign press close repeat for other suits -
i suspect you open 1♠ with 11-12 balanced, would fit. can't see how this would be playable. i agree with Free 1♦ with 2+♦'s is hard enough to play but starting your major suit search at 2 level would be hard amongst other things

I've been thinking about changing use for 1NT-3m. Currently 3♣/3♦ showing a good 6 card minor INV (to 3NT)but with nothing outside. My replacement i've been suggesting is a (31)(54) 5-4 in minors(5 of bid minor)forcing to 3NT or 4 of a minor, so about 10 pts in strength which I call near game force or NGF. Currently use 2♠ as one of: a)sign-off in a minor b)sign-off with both minors c)(31)(54)with NGF The idea being 2♠ should be weak and the NGF gets its own bid. This would be similar to the 3♥/3♠ as a singleton and 5-4 in minors Does this NGF hand deserve its own bids?

2 way pass system and 1m fert legal
steve2005 replied to arnoldson2's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Dont want to spoil all your fun but.. from GCC Disallowed .... 4. Forcing pass systems. ... 6. Opening one bids which by partnership agreement could show fewer than 8 HCP. (Not applicable to a psych.) so i presume your pass would be forcing as it contains your strong hands so would be disallowed
