I was wondering weather anyone had any good ideas for 1NT-4♠ & 2NT-4♠ assuming your playing Texas? Possibilities i found were: 1) Spade sign-off, either had tenances wanted to protect, didn't want to give chance for opponents to double a transfer. 2) a minor suited hand with equal minors and no slam ambition(this seems to me be hard to have no slam ambitions yet trying to make a five-level contract) 3) as a transfer to Clubs with 5♦ being a transfer to Diamonds with no slam ambition(again this seems to me be hard to have no slam ambitions yet trying to make a five-level contract)

with ♣J ♦A974 ♥AQ54 ♠J753 for robot I open 1♣ as north East overcalls 1♦-Robot(south) makes neg X, west passes , I bid 1♥, west passes and Robot bids 1NT which all passed. Was 1NT some sort of conventional raise. I would think 3♥ or even 4♥ are better bids confused♥

In the notes for gib is says "After a 1N opening bid If the opponents overcall 2C (Cappelletti any 1-suited hand), Double is Stayman and all other bids as below." but on the convention card it only lists systems on over a X
-
My stab at bidding this 1C - 3NT(solid minor 7+) 4D (sets trump asks for outside controls)- 4H (no outside controls) 6D
-
i like this, it certainly will find fits. It uses up an extra bid though and still have to show Hearts(assuming 1H shows spades)balanced hands with 4 card major and hands with 4 card major and 5+ card minor. I've seen some people show 4 card majors directly with their major suit bids. How do you show these other hands?

Only use similar system against 10-12, 11-13 or similar ranges but would work against 11-14 or 12-14. So the transfer methods allow showing a strong hand by taking a second bid. Can play it canape style so that your second suit is longer or equal to first. Double: Penalty oriented, either 15-18 hcp or a good 1 suiter that is a source of tricks. Certainly, if you ere using this against strong NT a Minor-Major 2 suiter is quite sensible. 2♣: 5-4 Majors 2♦: Hearts 2♥: Spades 2♠: Clubs 2NT: both Minors 3♣: Diamonds 3♦: Strong hand with 5-5 in Majors

Have rethought this problem. It makes some sense to have 1♣ stronger (say 2 pts but at least 1) and responses coressponding lighter. So for me 1♣ shows 18+ unbalanced or 19+ balanced. I have intermediates openings 10-15 but will assume here 11-15 my 2 cents: 1♦: 0-5 hcp 1♥: 6-10 hcp 5+ ♠ 1♠: 6-10 hcp 5+ ♥ 1NT: 6-10 hcp 5+ ♣ 2♣: 6-10 hcp 5+ ♦ 2♦: 9-10 hcp balanced 2♥: 6-10 hcp any 4441 hand 2♠: 6-8 hcp balanced 2NT: transfer 4-5 hcp 7 Clubs 3♣: transfer 4-5 hcp 7 Diamonds 3♦: transfer 4-5 hcp 7 Hearts 3♥: transfer 4-5 hcp 7 Spades

What to open in a precision based system
steve2005 replied to mr1303's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
1♦ is cleary the right system bid. I suspect you will find books with similar hands opening 1♦ and i would rebid 1♠ over 1♥, placing a club with my diamonds if need be So of these rules are too limiting. to have a 1♠ need 4 ♦ to bid. This could end up forcing responder to go to 2 level in search for a fit or missing a spade fit entirely if responder doesnt have the values to act over 1NT To require a 2♣ also to show 4♦ is limiting. There are a lot of 1-4-3-5 hands where you may not want to rebid 1NT with a singleton, so want to show your club suit, so partner can evealute their hand and your not stong wnough to reverse into hearts 1NT is a reasonable opening, with Kx we wouldnt even queston it. -
In the individual BBO <edit> EXPRESS</edit>tournements you use a 2/1 card that includes Cappeletti or Hamilton vs 1NT openings Well id say most of the time people blow this convention. They bid 2D with diamonds or 2S with majors very annoying

in competitive auction (1♣)-p-p-X-(1N)-2♥-p-p-(2♠)-p-(3♣)-3♥-(double) double clearly for penalty robot bid 4♥ which of course gets doubled and goes for a big number

Vote a non-responsive host off the table
steve2005 replied to DougOut's topic in Suggestions for the Software
Yes even more annoying if you get sent back to the same table. Yes i agree this should be done. -
Yes, i got put into the same seat as before. no card had been played from dummy it was board 8 touney #3819 Pairs ACBL Wed 8 pm
-
The other night I made by final bid, pass, made my lead dummy came down and I was disconnected when I was reconnected I made my pass again and then again made my lead and dummy came down this was in a ACBL tournament. There was nothing stopping me from changing my pass or lead based on seeing dummy

This may be a dumb question but i couldnt figure out how to do it? What Id like to be able to do is download the FD file for my favorite strong club system so i can modify it for use on the BBO system. I can looke at the system but would a) like to modify it and B) be able to use it and share it with a partner. OK i figured it out you click om the bfedit icon to right of date

Silly me cant cant find the email with the link to where you can downloads systems set up with full disclosure. Can anyone out there help me?
-
yes see it now shows up whwn you show convention card not while editing
-
Thanks, i got it to work. It doenst resize like a standard window. Must use bottom right hand corner only
-
The web client
-
thank-you John: The convention cards are resizable - resp ectfully I think you are thinking of a different program, I cant resize you can make the font size bigger or smaller - again I think you're thinking of a different program, there is no where to change the font size

I have 3 suggestions for making BBO Convention cards better. First: Make the screen wider. Should be 1/2 page wide so you can see entire section. Possibly make screen resizable. Second: Allow typing right up to end of field. Typing is stopped about 3/4 into field, there is more space which could be used Third: Allow user to print the convention card. Useful to have a reference sheet that you can look at without opening a window

I’m looking for a partner who can play Precision or willing to learn at bridgebase.com for 2 to 3 nights a week (Eastern American Time Zone, I’m from Canada). I have been away from bridge a while. Am either an intermediate or advanced player. For system we could use the Precision (forum) available at bridgebase. Else we could use Goren Precision. Else we could use the system outlined in Precision Today by Berkowitz & Manley, much of it incorporated in my system. Finally we would use my system T-Precision. (T stands for Transfer, but 2 people have used that name) Is compatible with the ACBL General Convention Chart. If you want to see a summary of my T-Precision goto http://precision.checkoutmypage.com . If you want the system notes, email me at steve_mc2005@yahoo.ca. You can use these notes as a reference while you learn.

I concur ACBL any defence to a strong club openings and also any artificial doesnt have to be strong, for example short clubs I personally favour Truscott over 1C & 2C, they have no point count specified, it assumed your going against a strong hand and will need a fit to compete Your suits are known to partner so he can jusdge a raise if we have a fit Holding......Over 1C.....Over 1C-Pass-1D C&D.........2C.............2C D&H..........1D.............2D H&S..........1H.............1H S&C..........1S.............1S C&H..........Double.......1NT D&S.........1NT............Double C only.......3C.............3C D only......2D..............3D H only.......2H.............2H S only.......2S.............2S Over 2C bid one level higher
-
I would think opposite a limited hand, say 11-15 that you would want up to strength say 15+ to bid Jacoby 2NT. On lesser hands you can just jump to game not missing anything. Other hands you can make a 2/1 I would want to show void raises 4♣/ 4♦ /4♥ and 3NT shows a spade void over hearts you would show unnamed singletons by bidding 3♠ over 1♥ and bidding 3NT over 1♠, you can easily relay to get the singleton suit of course you would also use Bergen raises Over 2NT 3 of new suit would show a singleton 3 of the major would show a good 14+ points with extra length 3NT would show 15 pts balanced 4 of a new suit would show a void 4 of the major would show a minimum hand with no singletons or voids

deleted- this part of system no longer applies.

I am putting together precision based system by my own right now and I think putting all 4-4-4-1 hands in one bid is kinda difficult to handle. Let's say it's 2♠ then after 2NT relay one answer is at 3♠ level. After that you don't have space for both range ask and RKCB in every suit, as partner is unlimited it's not a good situation imo. I think I will solve the problem by assigning ♠/♥ shortness to 2♠ and ♣/3♦ shortnesses to 3♣/3♦ bids which is kinda similar to what OP did. yes this doesnt take into account interference which right now is very aggressive that's one reason i like showing the shortness!
