Which natural bidding system should I learn?
steve2005 replied to jjlango's topic in Novice and Beginner Forum
there is very little difference between 2/1 and SAYC. the forcing 1N being the biggest. also some sequences after a 2/1 bid are non-forcing in SAYC. why not learn both? -
yes i go with overcall, dont want annoying ♦ response especially at matchpoints can partner introduce a 4 card spade suit with 1♠? that could be nice
-
yes how can you think of anything but pass with such great clubs, opp not running away with it

defense against preempts
steve2005 replied to kgr's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
first should pass, if partner cant double or bid you will go negative with anything but pass over 3S - pass second, easy 3H over 3S - 4H third, not good enough for 2N either X (i like X cause H not that great) or 3H ok over 3S X fourth X over 3S X imho -
how many diamonds?
steve2005 replied to straube's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
i agree - no defense but can opp bid 4S if you dont anounce diamond fit, i say lets see if they can before sacking feel free to bid 5D if they bid 4s but expect to be -3 so im not, you have little ruffing potential -
mixed or limit raise
steve2005 replied to straube's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
8 losers - limit raise if partner light still likely good spot -
Who was most to blame?

its a pickup partner what do you expect - goren -
1♦-1♠-3♣ not a splinter best to play as gameforce, sure there will be some hands you go negative however is better to be GF then search for those rare hands where you will pass 3C or bid 3D to play. Remember opener in standard could be very strong as much as 21 hcp and not the right hand to open 2C take your best shot

even if not alerted could easily bid 3H for lead with spades if 3H is forcing can always go back to spades. i can't fathom passing surely 3S might make, if this is imps could be very bad. partner is still doubling for takeout, they didnt suddenly finds some spades i go with 4N pick a minor with a decent hand

Inverted Minor Raises Interference
steve2005 replied to Lord Molyb's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
3♦ seems clear cheapest control on way to possible slam can bid 3 or 4 ♠ at next turn and shows diamond stopper were partner has 3N hand but no ♦ stopper -
even a simple 1♠overcall would have worked out ok. Also what does double of 2♠ mean. i suggest that if it doesnt show good spades your just asking for jokers to psyche

cue with both majors after takeout double

dual message carding strategies are allowed on 1st discard. so would be allowed then in ACBL world. would not be allowed while following suit. when you have only odd or even cards in a suit you will only be able to give that signal. playing standard or upside-down carding you run into to similar situation when you only have high or low cards but at least you can play your highest low card or lowest high card and maybe partner will read it correctly
-
Think you misunderstood 3M=constructive raise 2N=limit raise or better (includes forcing raises, yes will need different responses but is certainly playable, take Jordan over takeout X for example) 2M=5-10 pts 3 card support or 5-7 pts 4 card support

I like the idea of INV JS. mentioned briefly on pg 220 of 2/1 GF by A Grant & E Rodwell. Even 3♣/3♦ can be used as INV at cost of Bergen or STR J/S. However, no follow up is given. I assume to make this jump you are short in openers suit, otherwise make a 1N forcing response. So, I would say opener's rebid over 1♠-3♥ are: 3♠ - non-forcing 6+ card suit with short ♥ 3N - to play 4♣/4♦ - natural and forcing 5-5 or better 4♥/4♠ - to play 4N - 1430 or RKC for ♥ may end up in ♠ with good spades but ask is for ♥ If you use 3♣/3♦ as INV, you could use 3M as constructive and 2N as limit or forcing. Thus you would still have the Bergen meanings but would lose 1M-3M as preemptive.

GIB Release Notes - updated with each new version
steve2005 replied to Bbradley62's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
anyone for discussing new version 24 release? -
From the written explanation of GIB's CC "If the opponents overcall 2C (Cappelletti any 1-suited hand), Double is Stayman and all other bids as below" Can someone please change GIB CC we use on BBO to systems on over X & 2♣

adjudication of late boards in BBO express
steve2005 replied to steve2005's topic in BBO Support Forum
no, not a marked finesse. im playing for split honors and north to have the ten with finessing ten worked on 1st rd of ♦. also north showed out of ♣ so you know north started with 3♦ and south 2♦. so i think that means north 60% likely to have K I know GIB doesnt use this type of odds -
4H -1 above hand adjudicated in bbo express 80% as -1 clearly going to make just have to take ♦ finness. have no appeal get 30% instead of 70%

trouble with additional autoplays of card. cards are played extremely fast so people will know you have yarborough. this is already true of autoplay singletons. this is extremely unfair as partner will know to give you a ruff. autoplay singletons should be removed
-
just hit the redeal button. if others at your table agree can skip the hand. the old dont play onesies. i personally think there is so play at the one level sometimes your down 2 for 200 when you could make something else for example
-
When you fill out the convention card you can no longer type information even though there is clearly more space on that line which is forced to blank. Why not allow that space to be used? Also, using !c to get ♣ symbol (or any other suit) uses up 2 of your available characters for just one character displayed.

cant remember the name of this convention so cant google it. i know ive seen it mentioned here several times anyone know the name?

CURIOUS 3♦ as an ode to Rodwell I realized there is a problem, as is common in 2/1 structure, you don't have a way to express extra values at a low level, as all bids are forcing. sure after 1♦-2♣-2♥-3♥ responder has denied a minimum poor fitting hand which would bid 4♥ and similar over a 2♠ bid. However I would like a way to express extra values at a low level. Curious 3♦: 1♦-2♣-2♥-3♦ 1♦-2♣-2♠-3♦ 1♦-2♣-2NT-3♦ 1♦-2♣-3♣-3♦ all express extra values 16+ pts and sets trump as the last bid suit or NT in the case of over 2N. Of course it is still possible to end up in 6N as in any slam sequence. As you are giving up the ability to support ♦, if you have 4+♦ even with 5+♣ you must bid 2♦ or 1M with (40)45 distribution. After 3♦ cue-bidding is commenced, showing A,K, singleton and voids. any thoughts

Posting my first stab at 2C GF (expecting some goofs as 1st try) for me 1♦ promises 4+♦ denies 5+major and 18-20 hcp balanced is opened 1♣ and 16-18 hcp 2-2-4-5 with bare majors are opened 1♦ rebidding 3n over 2♣ I presume in std you would rebid 3N with 18-19 so switch that After 1♦-2♣: 5+♣ (or 4♣ balanced 13+ hcp if 13-15 hcp has suit unstopped) 13+ pts GF 2♦ = 5+♦ may have 4M but denies 4+♣ >>>2♥/♠ = 4♥/♠ (rarely 5+) >>>>>> 2♠ = 4♠ >>>>>>2N = OM stopped >>>>>> 3♣ = 3♣ >>>>>> 3♦ = 6♦ >>>>>>3♥/♠ = raise with 4♥/♠ (rarely 5+) >>> 2N = ♥/♠ stopped, ♦ shortage or 16+ hcp bal as with13-15 bal would have bid 3N initially >>> 3♣ = 6+♣ >>> 3♦ = 3+ ♦ >>> 3♥/♠ = splinter 0-1 ♥/♠ 4+♦ 17+ pts >>> 3N = 16-18 hcp balanced majors well stopped 2♥ = 4♥ 4♦ may be 4-4-4-1 >>> 2♠ = 4+♠ >>> 2N = ♠ stopper >>> 3♣ = waiting >>> 3♦ = 4+♦ >>> 3♥ = raise 4♥ (rarely 5+) >>> 3♠ = splinter in support of ♥- 4♥ (rarely 5+) >>> 3N = 16-18 hcp balanced ♠ well stopped 2♠ = 4♠ 4♦ >>> 2N = ♥ stopper >>> 3♣ = waiting >>> 3♦ = 4♦ >>> 3♥ = splinter in support of ♠-4♠ (rarely 5+) >>> 3♠ = raise 4♠ (rarely 5+) >>> 3N = 16-18 hcp balanced ♥ well stopped 2N = 12-14 hcp balanced 3-3-4-3 >>> 3♣ = sets ♣ as trump, but opener shows stoppers not giving up on 3N >>> 3♦ = sets ♦ as trump, but opener shows stoppers not giving up on 3N >>> 3♥/♠ = stopper >>> 3N = ♥ & ♠ stopper TP 3♣ = 4+♣ 4+♦ has priority over a 2♦ rebid >>> 3♦ = 4+♦ >>> 3 suit show stoppers >>> 3N = ♥ & ♠ stopper 16-18 hcp balanced NF 3♦ = 6+ solid ♦ 3♥ = 16+ pts 4+♣ 0-1♥ splinter, responder needs good stoppers to bid 3N GF 3♠ = 16+ pts 4+♣ 0-1♠ splinter, responder needs good stoppers to bid 3N GF 3N = 16-18 hcp 2-2-4-5 with poor major suit stoppers, reverse in std
