Yes- West is too strong to pass- its so unlikely that partner will double so you have to act. Would I pass 3♣? no you have to bid 3NT or some other game with such a wild hand and hope for the best. Expect that opener is super weak or psyching.
-
I love the discard of club on the diamond (a card covering a winner) which is the key failure, If GIB really believes that hearts are 3-1 offside then it makes no difference if you cash a second heart after the heart lead as the off-suits have already been broken to be cashed.
-
West definitely worth more than a minimum so 2 ♥, 3 ♥, 4♥. North worth a raise over 2 ♦ to 3♦ to give the decent sacrifice of 5♦.
-
Unlucky that West didn't double as is standard for GIB and still play this atrocious way.
-
East is definitely worth a 2 diamond with response bid of 3 ♦ bid by West and then it should be quite easily to go game whether it be 3♥,3♠, 3NT or straight to 5♦. East's bid is reasonable (my mistake but the other corrections were merely clarity).
-
Why doesn't GIB bid 3♥ to show his four card major and allow for partner bid ♠ if he has it? Its all forcing to 3NT at least after all.
-
If declarer has five hearts, then his partner might find it difficult after 3♥ and choose to bid 4♣ with only 2 ♠, 2 ♥ and no diamond cover. The obvious question is Q♦ a false card and so it is spades that partner wants you return.
-
It don't why you call it that. Its a failure to set up a suit by defence.
-
So change the description to just takeout double- can be very weak if possible set a minimum HCP/TP that below GIB will not make a double.
-
Just double, GIB will get so confused it will leave in and you'll get a great score. I'd expect opener is near bust. Anyway if GIB does correct just double whatever he bids- he's vulnerable so you do well. I'd wouldn't think there is slam- your hand isn't that fantastic against the trash that GIB preempts on.

Trouble is sometimes people's writing style makes a C looks a bit like an S and its possible to screw up other marks too.
-
Why North doesn't venture 3♥ as give South a tiny bit more its an easy game? such as ♠Axxxxx or even better AQxxxx ♥ Jx ♦xxx ♣xx
-
Why can't West open with that hand 1♦ its got 5 shortage TP and 9 HCP?
-
If partner has a yarborough and not an extreme shape which the bidding and hand suggests then diamonds would be hopeless anyway might as well gamble on 3NT straight- an extreme hand with a long solid minor should be jumping to 3NT straight over the 1♠.
-
I find it hard to believe GIB would open that badly. Was this a hand you played yourself or do you know the handle of the human? Then it should be possible to find the hand on myhands.

The presentation from listening to the first 1:30 is really more how can we look more patriotic without doing anything significant. The higher tax will just be dodged and anyway the entire wealth of all the rich people and companies wouldn't pay for the interest bill of the united states. If they were patriotic millionaires, why don't take on the inept military-intelligence complex which let 9-11 happen and alkheida get away in Afganistan and all the other stuff-up and they spend 50% of the US budget for a mess of agencies who a deal of time messing around. For a start almalgamate the lot into one coherent agency. Stop pretending there is some lines between defence, civil, internal, external.....

Is that a reply to Bradley since it certainly doesn't look like it? The question is what does GIB deny by bidding 6♠ instead of any other bid given 6♠ description as given is nondecript?
-
3♣ could have been making but I think it goes down 1 because provided you duck the first finesse in clubs because GIB can only get into dummy twice but 3 ♣ could have been making so you should have raised to 2♠ or bid 1NT then hopefully you wouldn't have had a competitive auction and not got to 3♠.

Never lead singleton trump?
cloa513 replied to frank0's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
A club lead is still better- less pressure on partner. -
Gotta to love the way East can't double it with one solid diamond trick and an ace.
-
Why doesn't GIB default to play low if the actual card by its similations (very limited) shouldn't matter?
-
North should cue clubs, then South can easily subside in 5 ♠, if North had a stronger hand without fantastic distribution then 4NT or 5♠ is a better bid. The club void could have gold for South. It wasn't the worst contract to end in anyway- just needs a 2-2 break in spades. Its the explanation that's wonky and the lack of other options than 5♠ (how uninformative can the bidding be).
-
Why E-W don't tackle spades immediately after the diamonds run?
-
The upper hand has 15 TP. 11HCP+3(singleton)+1(doubleton) unless you can point at the GIB total point calculator.
-
South will have two spades and North 1 spade remember north only ruffed two clubs and followed to two rounds of spades. Of course west could throw in the K of hearts on the first round to counter N-S but this is GIB no chance of it working out that special play. Only tried to duplicate the important honour cards.
