  1. I just want to clarifiy that it is fine for the East passing hand to have bid hearts or clubs natural. Assuming that then its no preference, surely with spades killer hand he would bid spades first time so he maybe has some crappy spades.
  2. The declarer read that as club length suggesting of ♣KQ maybe longer. Why would you want to draw attention to that. West could have had ♦KQxxxxx ♣K/Q/J/x ♥Jxxx ♠xx and ♦K leadwould suggest something like that. But there is something to be said for leading what expected of you when the contract is at high level and opponents have given lots of information (assuming you don't think they are lying)
  3. S: ♠ AKQxxx ♥Ax ♦xx ♣ xxx W: ♠ xx ♥ xx ♦ KJxxxx ♣ KQJ N: ♠ xx ♥ KQ109x ♦ Ax ♣ Axxx E: ♠ xxx ♥ Jxxx ♦ Qxx ♣ xxx Dealer: South Vul: N-S Bidding S: 1♠, W: 2♦, N: 2 ♥, E: Pass, S: 3♠, W: Pass, N: 4♦ (Cue), E: Double, S: 4♥, N: 4 NT (Blackwood), S showing they have all aces... N: 5 NT (Grand Slam force)... S showing the queen. N: 7 ♠ BTW Tried Full Hand but it rejected my entries. In play, W lead the K♣, and South guessed to finess the 10 hearts to make the contract. I know that south's play was pretty extreme but West should have read the bidding that a N-S needed to bring run home on the hearts (if they weren't solid then that's the only chance and any sign of distribution would be a bad idea. Given East double of 4 ♦ then he should have known that East had the queen and a somewhat misleading lead of the ♦K would have been a good idea. Let South guess what to do with hearts. What do you think?
  4. There is some risk that partner might go for penalty when you have a slam in hearts- ♣KQxxxx ♦x ♥Kxx ♠QJx
  5. Why not use a cue of 3 hearts or 3 spades and then partner can end in 3NT which has as good chance of making as 5D but as it turns out shouldn't make with spade lead then heart switch.
  6. N ♠Kxxxxx ♥Qx ♦Kx ♣xxx S ♥ K10xxxx ♦AQxxxx ♣x If North starts with 2♦ multi preempt in majors, how do you end in hearts?
  7. Opening 1♣ implies 1♥ 10+ HCP 4+♥ generally two suit (does not deny five or more spades) or 5 ♥ with suit quality hand responses: 1♦ little strength or little fit, 1♥ no fit and strength, 1♠/2♣/2♦ 3 card or more fit and strength 2 honours in given suit, 1NT fit with weak hand say two kings. Similar for 1♦ but denies 4♥ More later 1♥ is the flat strong or self supporting long minor with 1♠ as standby bid, 1NT as strength and/or length in both majors say 6-9 HCP 1♠ is the fragment long minor (I would say a weak four card major is not a suit) can be quite strong 1 NT is 12-14 flat hand can contain 5 card major/minor
  8. 2♥ is an option as showing ♥ strength 1-4 length inviting partner to choose no trumps with spades and diamonds cover - the 1 ♦ could quite fake with 3 ♦
  9. I love Precision Bidding and Precision Play by Reese- I may not agree with all of it but it does point that HCP aren't everything.
  10. So Partner Psyched or else bid with bad suit and a couple of outside kings what's the venerability? Bid 7 if it was all non-vul and 6 non-vul against vul
  11. Pass I'd say partner has at least 5 trashy hearts. e.g. ♠AK ♥xxxxx ♦KQJ xx ♣ x. He expects you to continue with shortage in hearts (some what wanted or expected) knowing you wouldn't be able to cue bid hearts.
  12. ♠/♥xxxxx or ♠/♥xxxxxx or more without any high honour and very good quality second suit or otherwise all round hand and of course opening values. Obviously it is not a big deal bidding the major to start with and other suit second but what if partner has shortage in the first suit and the combined hands have slam or even reasonable game quality in the second suit or even partner's suit. How do you know your partner that your partner has shortage in your major and how do tell him that is gold for your hand? Do you downgrade the 5 card major to four to start with or what? Can your partner splinter in your first suit?
  13. Actually SKQx and CA is just as much to give heart slam a reasonable slam chance although you only need an ace and a king in the minors for an OK minor slam.
  14. How are signals done? People seemed to assumed that clubs are no discarded
  15. One question is when do the signals come i.e. In what order?
  16. Of course, there is nearly zero chance of making the contract unless the spade honours are either onside (can't see it making with five spades onside) or split, there is small chance of KQ doubleton offside, could you endgame KQ x offside - don't thinks so would have to be very bad play by opponents also simply too many top losers to throw in with clubs. Those are only worthwhile probabilities
  17. Why not have 1♣ transfer to 1 ♦, 1♦ to 1♥, 1♥ to 1 ♠, 1 ♠ to 2 ♣ with fairly unlimited strength 11+ and allowing 4 card majors with longer minors? 1♣ can include the flat strong hands or even all flat hands not covered by 1 NT? 2♣ can be powerful two or three suit hands or even powerful NT hands that need little or nothing to be 3NT or higher. 1 NT is variable 12-14 (non-vul) 13-15 (vul-vul) and 14-16 (against). Advantages- one clear suit with most first bids so it is harder for opponent to confuse. 2C prevents preempts being to too preemptive especially with against - so it is probably the other three suits. What do you think?
  18. [hv=d=n&v=b&n=sj9hjtdkqt74ca974&w=shak873daj86ckj82&e=sq8532h964d2ct653&s=sakt764hq52d953cq]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] I was East and we were playing Precision. In the original bidding, 1S, 4H all pass which went down two. Partner being a sometime high card point plus distibution obsessive valued her hand as about 25. I would say you should start by doubling the 1S, I expect that would have been redoubled, what do you suggest the bidding should continue. Is it sensible to avoid 4H and if so how do avoid getting so high when the doubler is so powerful?
