There are a number of variations of Soloway, one includes two suit hands where the second suit is support for the opener's suit so with that variation, this is a Soloway hand but I agree generally don't have Soloway at least not over majors (just don't bid the jumpshift since GIB will make a mess of it and it wastes bidding space). Over a minor, it makes some sense as there isn't a simple game force single bid.

Bridge Baron on two computers ?

So email them. -
It's not healthcare, but it looks pretty universal

No its much worse than having the USSR which was a moderately well defined threat- they have lots of threats- China, Russia, many unfriendly countries, irregular enemies (terrorists)- however the spending is a mess e.g. its equally split between the three armed forces because otherwise the generals would squabble (kindergarten children that they are)- does this budget include intelligence which is equally a mess with more squabbling disorganised branches than you can count on two hands. -
Maybe because it thinks your preference is with three cards in each suit. Anyway its a pathetic pass in 3rd seat by GIB its a clear 1♦ opening especially with white against red.
-
What is the style of the 1♦ opening?
-
What both humans bid badly choosing and choose a measley 2♠- its easily 3♠(hopefully not game forcing) . West's bid is a natural 2♣ or 2♦.
-
And they pay for the access. Playing sponsors expect more in real life.

How can GIB possily go down in this slam?
cloa513 replied to MightyMoe's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
♦ Which doesn't explain why it leads the ace of spades, Double Dummy that makes no sense- it should keep that for a finesse if the 10 ♦ doesn't drop. It must have ignored its simulations to do that. -
The only difference is how long it allows to do simulations and therefore how many simulations it does in order to make a decision- for advanced more time and of course the pricing adv $1/day, basic $1/week. It was on a BBO notice when they introduced Advanced GIBs.

If the system notes were in a full disclosure format ie. you select a bidding sequence and it shows the meanings along the way then then putting the kitchen sink in the system notes would be no big deal since you'd only look at the parts that you want to.
-
The simulations strike again- overriding bidding rules.

How can GIB possily go down in this slam?
cloa513 replied to MightyMoe's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
GIB doesn't use cardplay- only simulations and if the simulations just happen to be the most unlikely ones then it makes a mess. -
Nowhere near the 14 TP it supposed to have- only 10TP. Though you shouldn't be counting your KQxx of diamonds as being suitable for a spades contract especially given GIB standard practice to double with as little as 3 of each major so 3NT should be your first choice- hopefully GIB will put you into 4H from there.
-
Why does West not double the first time?- when its one level down, why doesn't East respond to the double- its got a decent hand?
-
You should have said preempt then.
-
If only they all confess, e.g. ignored bidding rule- simulations rule! then at least we'd be happy with their honesty.
-
You mean overcall. It is lacking in values and a little in its position over opening hand. Simulations would count against opening.
-
I agree, the hand is really bad because that J and Q aren't worth anything and KQ doubleton degrades the value of the K and Q so open 2♠ in 3 and 4th hand with such a hand- its needs so much from partner (possibly more than partner could possibly hold) to make game.
-
Doesn't GIB have a playing tricks calculator so that 8 playing trick and 19+TP can be the ancillary requirement for 2♣?
-
Impossible to bid this slam?
cloa513 replied to frank0's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
You have to upgrade North's hand for starters- its worth 15 HCP with the good 5 card club suit. With South's hand- full of control, he has got to be thinking slam. Maybe start: 1NT,2♣,2♦,2♠(game force),3♣(5 clubs),3♦(I am thinking slam).... With a game forcing stayman 2♦ as used in some precision, slam is easy. Relay systems wouldn't have a problem either. Its a hand evaluation failure rather than system failure. -
Because it simulated that East will take it out and not do too bad and N-S might have game with North's nearly max pass hand and you do, its 3NT by South- West is horribly squeezed by the run of hearts- I assumed he starts with the top spades.
-
You mean trick 3 but still silly.
-
Nothing bad there- you expect North to raise your pre-empt when E-W are going down.
-
The 4♠ definitely should have more than a 2 ♠ raise- which that hand so marginally has.
