Gib needs to tone down the pulling of 3nt
cloa513 replied to dwar0123's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Its not a craptastic 1NT- its a throughly upgradeable hand- its a bit much upgrading it to 15 (but not an enormous stretch) but its at least worth 14- given playing with a GIB open 1NT at least it hopefully get to transfer you to 2H and even if it forces to the silly 4H then at least you are playing it and it makes comfortably. -
That's a rediculously strong weak 2, followed by some chronic underbidding- seeing as they can make 4♥.
-
Scoring type doesn't matter because the factors outside your control- opponents and competitors and bidding all play such a big part that scoring is irrelevant- just bid to most sensible contract and make it. Just take a solid 3NT hand which both closed and open managed to take down 1 because they were trying for +1.
-
You forgot that GIB had already given him a diamond trick and heart trick so 2 top clubs tricks plus a ruff come rolling in.
-
It can see dummy includes Kx in diamonds and contains spades no DD analysis playing in trumps could possibly gain- I suspect GIB creators have mixed up NT DD and Trump DD when playing in defence where it could gain on NT play as a hold up play.
-
You can't blame GIB for not taking the contract down- where else but clubs can partner hold much strength- KCthen JC was obvious for the ruff which GIB opponents gave to you.
-
But this error isn't signalling- its total blindness to the dummy's hand- there quite a few times GIB ignores the dummy hand and therefore the solution isn't GIB DD play- its a nonsense solution. They should be looking into the memory registers when GIB plays a hand like this and seeing whether it inputs the dummy into its solution. They should also turn maximum trick solution.
-
Its worse than DD simulator- its a double DD simulator- assume opponent GIB will play DD even though they don't.

Very novel

What is partner's 3D? Couldn't it just be ♠AKQ.
-
Even a precision hand might raise at that point with 6 good spades and at least 4 hearts- a double fit doesn't need 25+ HCP+.
-
Isn't this 2♦ (Michaels however I bet the description of a jump to game bid after Michael's will be rediculous) not double? 3♠ after 2NT should be forcing period.

anorther 4sf auction; raising partner's 2nd suit
cloa513 replied to Stephen Tu's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Its not simple- its hard work- something that was an anethma to Ginsberg and every other bridge computer programmer- They should have been using heuristics (metarules) as other expert systems not ludicrous long chained simulations. -
Balancing bids when passed in 2nd seat are definitely crazy. I'd recommend noone make such a bid- foolish partners have done that and got opponent up to a making game bid.
-
Then North can cue- it can hardly be game forcing with a passed hand- logically if these are North's difficult choices- South has to bid 2S.

anorther 4sf auction; raising partner's 2nd suit

It should have been book bids right through- simple slack bidding programming. -
Easy 4 Spades- you are vunerable against not- it says strong hand without tolerance for the other major. If partner is holding the other spade honours, he should realise the power of your hand and raise to 6, 7 with the ace of hearts as well.
-
The real problem is that North passed the limit raise.
-
Explanations aren't what GIB actually thinks- they are text outputs responding to bids.
-
Not described as unlimited but as with as wide a HCP range as an opening hand so basically little extra information over an opening hand.
-
And none of them with a sensible lead of spade- given dummy poor support for spades it should be totally obvious from simulations- its just the pointless maximum trick evaluation that probably screws it up.
-
GIB is apparently capable of psyching. I saw this somewhere about GIB's poor play. GIBs playing against humans 1H (GIB North) ,-,1S,1NT,-,2C,-,3NT. and the 1H was a psyche GIB misplayed because the 1NT opening was actual 18-19 rather than its expected 15-17.
-
Rather the mislead 6 of 8421 pt in hearts where a ace is 8 of 8421 pts.
-
People don't like the slam try bid but I doubt GIB could handle real cue bids- it requires judgement/partner bidding appreciation both something GIB will never be able to be programmed to do. So why something like a slam ask bid after say 1H,3H, 4C is an ask in clubs with step responses 1 step 2+ cards in clubs with no kings or aces, 2 steps Kx(+), 3 steps singleton, 4 steps Ax(+),5 steps void or void equivalent like singleton A or AK. At least it give some critical information either to GIB or human and then just guess/simulate the right final position.
-
True but you'd have to agree 4♥ is a reasonable guess hopefully partner is short is spades rather than clubs.
