  1. ITA Here I Australia we write the CONTRACT in one colume (ie 4S) and in the next write ither "C" for making the contract OR the number of tricks you make above or below the contract so 4S +2 means u made 6 :) -- and as I thought ACBL tourneys did the same -- but we often saw EW so only had to check the SCORE was correct
  2. I would play it as splinter B) -- I don't play fit bids
  3. I think this has been a recurring request for a long time -- so I GUESS that it's difficult to wrote the programme for it -- otherwise it would possibly been done already :)
  4. Ty for response BUT I thought the original question was NOT about the responses over an intervening bid over a Precision 1♣ :) That is a horse of a different colour -- and there are LOTS of ways to convey your point count and distribution over intervening bids :)
  5. Certainly. Do you have time to teach and/or educate them? And if you have, do you think thay can be bothered? The answer is depressing I predict. Roland Yes, I have time to teach TDs, I do it already in live bridge. Yes, they will be 'bothered' if there is BBO support for standards of knowledge to run tournaments. May I suggest you try to run tourneys on BBO candy before you volunteer to 'train' BBO directors [I mean NO disrespect ] (cos I am sure it's DIFFERENT to directing f2f tourneys :) ) in spite of not having to deal with ( for example -- 'leading /playing out of turn -- reneging etc etc ' which CANNOT happen online) BUT I believe that directors online have DIFFERENT problems to deal with ( like LOTS of folks leaving/disconnecting) which DON'T happen in f2f  :P I fully admit that in spite of playing duplicate bridge for ALMOST 45 years I have NO desire to direct -- BUT have a HUGH respect for those who do :D
  6. I think if you choose to play on a site in the 'public' domain (as BBO is) you should expect that 'anybody'(a generic term) should be able to access hands that you have played :P If you can't live with it - choose NOT to play on site :)
  7. WHY play anything except "anything except 1♦" is GF? OR am I having a "senior" moment and TOTALLY missing something????
  8. ONCE AGAIN - please report to(including chat log ) to "abuse @ U KNOW WHERE" I guess that inquiry will pick it up (cos I think he spends a HUGE amount of time reeading the boards but PLEASE report it so he doesn't have to read ALL the posts to realise that maybe there could be a problem with THIS particular director U quoted  As he said it is BBO policy to allow folks who want to direct FREE tourneys on BBO be allowed to do so (BRAVO BBO :D ) but I suppose if there are enough BAD director decisions reported to "u know where" that director might be advised to NOT direct -- or maybe told where to go to learn better directing skills BTW -- although I have played duplicate bridge for ALMOST 40 years I would not want to direct -- and therefore I have a great respect for those who do :D ;) BUT I guess that ONLINE directing is somewhat different to f2f directing (where directors can't JUST say "I would like to direct a tourney at time 'xx.xx' on 'whatever day') --- but have to satisfy their national bridge federation that they are compentent TO be a director :D
  9. 1. NEVER pass a FORCING bid -- and if you haven't discussed what IS forcing do not pass what would be a forcing bid in the system you have agreed ( if you haven't agreed a BASIC system -- don't bid ANYTHING unless you agree basics :))and if in a tourney and Partner refuses to agree system CALL DIRECTOR:) 2. Trust your partner's bids --- always assuming you have agreed a basic system(see above) cos even if P has made a bad bid you have cemented partnership trust 3. Make all the bids that are those which fit in with the system you have agreed ( i.e no not try to br 'creative')
  10. INTERESTING Precision bidding ( but I believe somewhat unusual -unless by established partnerships ) -- BUT the 7NT is STILL on a guess I think u are saying (correct me if I misunderstood) -- but 7♥ is there -- so I for one will NOT try 7NT on a guess -- mainly because a precision type auction (like the one I posted earlier which is more 'mainstream' precision [imho]) will get u to GREAT grand slam -- which MAYBE the field will not find???
  11. I can understand why you would say that "my hands" is in the public domain -- BUT that ONLY applies if you KNOW the name of the people playing the hand AND the date on which it was played ;) (or unless 'you' [generic not meaning YOU pigpenz :) ])played against them and reported the hand  Now the person who reported the hand you posted claimed he had sent in 50 hands on this one pair and 'nothing was done' (to quote your quote of HIS claim  ) 1. HOW does he KNOW 'nothing was done' ? 2. were ALL the hands he sent in REALLY clearcut "cheating"(or some maybe LUCKY in some way or another) and is he an expert who would qualify to sit on a committee to rule on the subject?? 3. As we can see after the claims in Teneriffe -- there are still procedures to go through before a definitive ruling against the "suspect" pair is agreed -- and goodness knows it's SO much easier deciding on what happened in f2f as against online bridge 4. I believe that Fred and Uday (and others I am not specifically aware of) are doing their utmost to keep this site as free from cheating as they possibly can --- BUT please remember that to PROVE cheating is really difficult   :( (and also might be subject to legal sanctions by accused pairs perhaps?)
  12. biggest problem using 'myhands' link is that you are identifying the players you have reported to abuse :P Which I consider unfair --- perhaps report the HANDS here without identifying the players is IMHO a better option
  13. [quote name=pigpenz' date='Aug 7 2005, 03:12 PM here is an exmaple that someone just sent me, take alook and see what you think :P[/quote] I think the 2♥ bid somewhat unusual :P but as pbleighton said perhaps beginners? But I think that the auction should go 1♦ 1♠ 2♠ pass
  14. Report this to abuse @ u know where too
  15. Playing our version of Preciaion we will get to 7♥ (not 7NT though I don't think) 1♣ 1♥ 8+ and 5+ ♥ 2♥ TAB 2NT 5 to 1 of top 3 honours 3♣ A♣ 3♠ A♠ 4♦ A♦ 5♣ K♣ AND showing SLAM aspirations as gone past 4♥ 7♥
  16. I started playing online when I was living in USA for 6 years (we moved home to Australia 3 years ago) I have played in F2F duplicate with husband for ALMOST 40 years (and we are now both 62!) but when we lived in USA he travelled a LOT (like about 65% of his time) so online bridge was a great way for me to play this terrific game I met 'online' friends at NACBs in Las Vegas, Toronto, and Washington DC and am about to go to NYC to meet another online friend in Sept :D ( should be fun !!) BUT IMHO because I can still get to my local club ( where I play 3 times a week at LEAST) online bridge is the second best way to play -- because actually sitting at a table and conversing f2f is wonderful -- BUT online bridge is SO MUCH BETTER than no bridge at all which is why I still play online and hopefully relate to 'online friends' because if I get to the stage when f2f bridge is no longer possible (for whatever reason) I would like to know I still can play with friends online :)
  17. Good for u Uday - IMHO this thread has become something NOT related to bridge (or even related to Hog's original post) --- maybe needs to be LOCKED? :)
  18. ITA :) I looked at a macro language that a poster recomended BUT although I am reasonably familiar woth my computer I found it too much hassle B)
  19. Trouble with that approach is that 1♦ and 1♠ show a MAX (the way I play Precision) of 15 points --- so it's entirely possible that you ONLY get to play in a partial if P has the hand shown :D After consideration I think those who vote for 1♦ (playing anything except a strong club system) got it right -- one can ALWAYS reverse to 2♠ if necessary --unless it goes 1♦ P P P ;) -- which will NOT happen (luckily) with the hands shown :)
  20. Actually what I should have said was that on BBO your bid should not be registered if you press "alert" and do not give explaination == however I do realise that would mean Fred and his team would have extra programming to do (sorry Fred ;) )
  21. PASS === in tempo hopefully ;) [joke]
  22. I play precision so open 1♣ ;) Playing Acol with Benjamin 2's (which I do occasionally ) I'll open 2C (and get a positive 2♥ response showing 5+ H and 7+ points ) Playing SAYC or 2/1 I will open 2♣ also ;)
  23. Playing with a newbie I believe the 2♣ Q bid could be misinterpreted - so I would have bid 2♦ and NOW I would not be in this position :( Even with a 'pickup' advanced partner Q bids are open to agreement and without prior discussion (general strength or agree partner's suit? in the example shown) can also be misinterpreted ;) Can't see a reasonable bid that will tell a newbie what I have in my hand ;) but will bid 3♦ now and MORE diamonds if opps are silent and P bids on B)
  24. I think that JUST clicking "alert" should be INSUFFICIENT without a clear explanation of the bid means --- this would remove "UI" because opps could not ask for explanation and declarer could not give explaination as though one of opps had asked for it --- etc etc THEN we get to "what is alertable" which is really problematical in a global site -- as for example - STAYMAN is not alertable in USA but is here in Australia :D :) :) so maybe alerts should be made AND explained as above (at least at above the 1 level) as 'a call that does not indicate a desire to play in that contract' - or SOMETHING like that?? :) ALSO if your call means that it has a second meaning -- for example Cappeletti over 1NT showing the suit called PLUS another HAS to be alerted
