  1. 2♠ as I HOPE P would not bid 2♦ IF he only had 4♠ and 3♦ (or am I missing the blooming obvious?)
  2. I would have bid 4♣ over the 3♠ bid THEN P can bid the 5♣ :( :) SO to answer the question W is to blame for missing game
  3. will X with the only hand which has 4♥s :(
  4. Think I PASS and take the points -- WE got done by the prempt -- NO way to SCIENTIFICALLY determine if we have slam on or not :) :( MAYBE this time opps get good score but IMO pass in this type of situation gains more often than it loses :)
  5. I will open 3♠ I have less than opening AND SEVEN spades wtp :D MIGHT buy the auction -- OR push opps to a 4 level contract which goes off
  6. Assuming that my bid will close the auction AND having to choose between slams ( when I dislike the bidding sequence whatever system I am comfortable with ) I will choose 6♠ :D
  7. MAYBE I don't understand multi 2♦ BUT over the 2NT bid I would ONLY bid 3NT B) as IMHO we do NOT have enough points for 6NT :D (or imho sufficient major fits for six of major) so WHY go looking for a contract better than 3NT :(
  8. Precision IS a system which my husband and I have played together from the early 80's -- but we have adapted it from a VERY simple system early on to one which has a few "bells & whistles" so I agree with Marlowe that it is much more difficult to play with a pickup partner than SAYC (which I also use playing 'online' becuse I have attempted to play Precision and mostly it was a complete disaster because settling on EXACTLY what to play was taking too long to agree
  9. FIRST - playing SAYC why did U not open 1♦? (cos over a 1 level response u can bid 2NT to show 18-20) BUT having decided to open 1♣ ---over a GF 2♠ --(which IMHO SHOULD show 16+ or 15+ AND a GREAT ♠suit) -- I NOW reverse to 3♦ --telling P I have17+ points[or should it be 18+ in SAYC?] and little support for his ♠s? Guess if he NOW rebids ♠ I will RKCB BECAUSE the rebid says "I have a SELF SUFFICIENT ♠ suit "( I think it's AKQxxxxx at the least and should also have AK♥) -- so ALL I need to find out is DOES he have the AK♥ as well as the AKQ ♠ on the way to a slam -- and then I decide the FINAL contract
  10. OK the way my P and I play 1NTX --- is 15+ with a hand that could be opened 1NT (it COULD be 18+ though) and we play "systems on" (ie if 1NTX gets passed to me I respond as thought P had OPENED 1NT) SO to answer the question I would REALLY have to see what my hand was -- also the vulnerability :( But in general I would ONLY pass 1NTX with a hand with 9 points and flat dist ONLY IF opps were VUL v non vul because THEN the penalty should be better than we getting game
  11. Surely even after 2♣ (assuming 2♣GAME force??) 2♥(neg) ANYBID HAS to be forcing for one round or the whole system is flawed :P :P :P :P It's up to partnership aggreement WHAT bid constituted a "second" neg bid BUT in the example quoted I would thing that 3♥ WOULD be a bid saying "Partner I REALLY have a complete bust --- and no support for your ♦'s --- proceed at YOUR peril BUT I responded bcause your 3♦ was forcing IF 2♣ NOT Game force then I would expect that 3♦ COULD be passed with a REALLY weak hand with a tolerence for ♦ ( but I suspect that is NOT what the question was about )
  12. OK Playing SAYC I assume that 3♦ would be a GAME FORCE?? I assume the 3♣ bid shows at LEAST 5/5 in suits ---So I bid 3♥ NF showing 6♥ WTP ?? :P BUT as I understand playing 2/1 the 2♥ bid forces to game THEREFORE the 3♣ bid does not show ANY extra values ( assume 5/4 S/C) so MY bid would be 3♦ showing ♥ and ♦ HOWEVER playing 2/1 I WOULD NOT force to game bidding 2♥ -- rather I would bid 1NT (forcing) and wait for partner's rebid
  13. This was with RANDOM (rather than your regular )partner MAYBE "kickback" not an option ( as LOTS of folks [including me] ) don't play it with reg partner(cos we don't need it in our system -- not for any other reason) and certainly even if they DO know kickback would not assume it applies without specific agreement :P HOWEVER surely the 3♠ bid IS imho GAME force BTW -- had I had the N hand I would NOT have bid ONLY 2♦ -- I would bid UNUSUAL 2NT for minors ( which I would hope a pickup partner would recognise cos it's fairly 'standard' over a major opening) :P  BUT on the actual bidding (horrible tho it is ;)imo ) I believe 3♠ is an ABSOLUTE game force and therefore as such N should have bid 6♦
  14. AS I play Precision I will open it 3♣
  15. Interesting -- as I am now over 60 MY introduction to bridge was through MY grandmother -- (she played at LEAST 3 times a week -- and I believe played rubber bridge as I'm not sure WHEN duplicate began in UK ??) -- and this was in about 1955  She and my parents taught me the ANCIENT Culbertson system --- basically " ' 2½' to open '1½' to respond '4½' GAME FORCE 2 opener (A =1 K=½ AQ=1½ KQ=1)" structure and then concentrated on the PLAY of the cards!! ( NOT so different from basic Goren :P ) It was actually at least FIVE years (when at University when we had 4 players and 4 kibitzers around tables at lunchtime) before I saw somebody bid 4NT to ask for aces !! and hear d 1NT 2♣ as Stayman!! SO today MAYBE just MAYBE we ought to simplify the bidding at first and teach the LOVE of the game as Winston so delightfully put it :P
  16. I would not have XX -- (would have bid 1♥) ---but now I feel I HAVE to bid 3♦
  17. But they work more against weaker opponents. I used to play that white vs red 3 of a major would show a hand too WEAK to make a weak two (think Qxxxxx and out). QUOTE edited Is it legal to have specific agreements according to vul? (DIRECTORS please reply ) AND did you either pre-alert (in F2F) or selfalert in BBO as to what your agreements are?
  18. lead another ♥ WTP? I am assuming declarer has CLUBS ( A LOT of them) BUT if he is stuck in dummy he can't make them before WE come to 5 tricks??
