  1. My P and I have different agreements :) Over 1NT 2♠ -- relay to 2NT 3♥ shows ♥ &♣ - 5/5 at least with slam aspirations if fit can b found If P bids 4♣ or 4♥ I will Q 4♠ If he bids 3NT I will bid 4♣ (hopefully telling him I HATE NT and have 6/5 )
  2. I was under the impression that teaching ANYBODY about condom use was almost forgiven in USA these days :)
  3. Wow... For someone who is seeking clarfication regaridng some very basic sequences, you're certain quite opinionated on the subject of overcalls. Lets answer the simple question first: Playing standard methods, a 2♥ advance is forcing. As for hand 1, the decision what to open is largely a matter of style... Some people prefer not to preempt with a void and a Kxx in a side suit. They will chose to open 1♦ and Diamonds at the cheapest level to show a weak hand with length. Other people prefer that their openings are relatively sound with defensive values. These players will prefer a 3♦ opening (perhaps even a pass) Playing "Standard" I prefer a 1♦ opening. Playing a sound opening system like 2/1 I prefer 3♦ Sorry -- the couple playing E/W stated "Acol with 5 card overcalls " which is why I said that the overcall was unwise BUT --- I was really NOT trying to be opinionated(and really resent the implicatation!!) as ALL I was asking was the questions regarding the N/S "STANDARD AMERICAN" bidding because in discussions we had a disagreement as to the 2♥ bid being forcing for 1 round or not ! I thought it was and most others ( who do NOT play SA at ALL) said it wasn't :)  ;)
  4. of course it's going for heaps but that's placing an awful lot of pressure on opener to re-open with X, if his hand is appropriate and who said he didnt open on a crap hand? Qx of diamonds is an important holding too.I think vulnerable at IMPs take the game bonus and bit the obvious 3NT. nickf sydney WHY would P open with CRAP VUL v NON ?? Having said that I would still like to know ;) 1. What systems are each couple playing ? 2. How many points do opps overcall on ? ( ie weak or close to opening?) 3. does partner opening in 1ST position promise a second bid? (in which case it MIGHT be a reopening X :D  (This is a part of Q1 ) -- AND if he does NOT have a rebid he should'nt be opening in 1st position (IMHO  ) 4. If p has a minor 2 suiter he MAYBE should have opened 1♦ rather than 1 ♣ :) then he can rebid 3♣ then I have an EASY 3NT bid :( WTP ??
  5. I should have said -- the opps were playing Acol so the 1♠ overcall should show 5 ♠'s AND because the N/S couple told me that the way they play Standard the 2♥ is NOT forcing -- should that fact be alerted?
  6. I bid what I WOULD have opened before the mulit 2♦ that is 3♦
  7. [hv=d=s&v=e&n=sxxxhaxxxxdaxxxcx&w=saqjxhktxdtxcxxxx&e=sxxxhqjxxxdcakqxx&s=sktxhdkqjxxxxcjxx]399|300|bidding 1♦ 1♠ 2♥ P [/hv] I am trying to clarify STANDARD bidding ( and ignoring the terrible 1♠ overcall which SHOULD show 10+ and at least 5 ♠) 1. Do u agree with the 1♦ opener ? 2. is 2♥ forcing for ONE round?? Thank you for your opinions
  8. I personally wouldn't as I have forced them to the 5 level -- and I prefer NOT to bid a prempt hand a second time
  9. I voted for 5♣ -- make OPPS guess @ five level
  10. No suggestion as to name , but I am glad that as "advanced" (BUT really would prefre to rank myself as Intemediate + -- but that's not an option) I will be allowed to play there occasionally
  11. I agree  BUT I play Precision and only play neg Xs to 3♠ :D to answer original post IF you play 1NT as 5332 ( 5 major) then WHY open 1♥? IMHO you either play your system or you will face hands like this where as YOU stated "I wished I had opened 1NT" Last of all MAYBE S forgot to double :o
  12. Since nobody cared to respond to the question asked: 7♥ is better because you can get rid of your ♦ loser on the ♠ length. 6♠ is as good as 6NT since you don't need ruffs and if the suits behave you have 12 tricks, no more no less. TY Free -- nice to get away from the two folks going on and on and ON about FA :o according to Hardy  Hope everyone had a good Christmas and 2006 will be a happy and peaceful one for you all :D
  13. 3♠ as my doubleton honours are not worth upgrading my hand to a game force opposite a passed hand :o
  14. I WILL open the hand but firstly WHAT system are you playing ?? IF SAYC -- will P bid TWO♥ over a minor suit opening from me?? -- and if so is that WJS or SJS (16+) ? The answers to the above questions will impact what I bid first BUT I am sure going to bid on this hand :) :)
  15. I bid 1NT -- P can still bid a 4 card ♥ suit if he wants
  16. I should have edited my previous post to read "Ido not believe there is any SANE way to get to 7♥ IF playing SAYC or 2/1 (unless using conventions which are not normally part of those systems) :)
  17. I don't know if there's a "standard" but I would bid 4♠
  18. FIRSTLY WHY is SEVEN ♥ the optimum contract? -- only 4/4 fit (useless against a 5/0 dist if in SEVEN ♥) Playing EITHER SAYC or 2/1 I would NEVER bid 2♥ over 1♠ with ONLY four ♥s ( I prefer a way to show 4 card support for p's ♠s) I do not believe there is a SANE way to bid 7♥
  19. Sorry Fluffy I disagree that "splinter is universal" -- surely you have to AGREE that you play splinters --- AND at what level -- AS your examples show ?? ;)
  20. Can I see the actual hand please as the one you shoe has 14 cards? I will PASS at MP and MAYBE bid 3♥ @IMPS
  21. As I said in other thread I WOULD have passed 4♥X -- BUT if I really have to bid again I will but 4NT (pick a minor P ) not 4♠ NOW I will pass 5♣ ;)
  22. I assume 1NT is forcing? -- (2/1 style) so no I "trust my partner" and PASS ;)
