  1. IMO 4♠ was a COMPLETE overbid -- bid 3♠ and then N/S NEVER go looking for slam BUT as S bid 4♠ then over the 5♦(assume it's a a slam try?) DOUBLED S should IMHO just bid 5♠ :) :) :P :)
  2. LOL :) My husband (and regular partner for about 40 years) and I play COUNT if opps lead and standard (HI enc) when WE lead -- combined with revolving discards (for FIRST discard ) and IF really obvious-- suit preference leads ( ie when U KNOW p is going to trump and you NEED him to lead a particular suit) SOMETIMES this is of no benefit but a lot of times it gives the edge in normal comps ( to about Regional level USA ) But I really think that regular partnerships need an agreement (whatever it is ) because the difference between "whatever grade" and "above whatever grade" is the quality of defence -- and DEFENCE depends in some degree on signalling :P
  3. First -- WHY did N bid 1♠ not 1♥ ?? (or am I yet again missing the obvious?) BUT given the bidding WHY did S not PASS 3NT??? SO 90% blame to S after his partner's 1♠ bid :) :P
  4. 3♦ for me ( assuming that the 2♣ bid shows 10+ points?)
  5. I am assuming that 2♣ was game force?? then S first X -- awful (unless it shows points AND Hearts ?) W 3S unbelievable !! WHY not just PASS 2♠X?? N PASS over 3S is :P :D :P  BID ♣s surely? ALL the rest are "unreal" bids SO to summarise -- ALL bids after 2♣ seem equally silly to me :)
  6. Once again a "trust your partner" answer -- PASS why in the h### would you do anything else ?? WTP? :) (Mind you If P has made a totally stupid bid and you make a slam then GET SHOOT PARTNER{joke} )
  7. The conclusion is that: 1) the jump to 3S would have avoided altogether the problem 2) pard does not have a penalty double.[/quote ]INTERESTING (this is after I voted to PASS the X for sake of partnership harmony) and after reading this post :P I DISAGREE with the first comment that 'jump to 3♠ would have avoided the problem' BECAUSE I assume P can bid 1♠ with only 4 of them :P ?? 1. I have shown 5♥ and 4♠ AND less than 16 points (like NOT a forcing bid at my second chance?) 2. PARD has shown 6+ points and initally ONLY 4♠ right?? :P 3. AFTER I show 4 card ♠ support --Partner decides to DOUBLE for penalty NOT bid 3♠?? 4. WHY SHOULD I bid again on what I have in MY hand --- MAYBE partner should NOT double for penalties UNLESS he/she has REALLY GREAT cards in trump suit ?? BUT that's another discussion I have to have with partner -- but NOT specific to THIS hand :D
  8. I voted PASS -- again a "TRUST your partner" response from me --- he has doubled at the THREE level after passing up the opportunity to X 3♥ for takeout?? If I am wrong I am STILL maintaining partnership trust ( even if I decide NEVER to play with him/her again if too many of these decisions go wrong :P :P ) -----------SERIOUSLY I really believe that trust is the difference between average partnerships and GREAT ones :D
  9. HAVE to double --- and bid 2NT over expected 2D bid from P IF he replies ANYTHING but 2♦ I will bid game in the suit he bids :D
  10. This rootkit, as far as I understand, installs automatically when you insert a music CD into a windows computer. Yes, it's truly evil. Arend I believe Sony have now decided NOT to have the buried code onn their CD s ---- BUT I for one will not play ANY CD music on my computer :)
  11. I vote for "crap " idea because I think it's a total waste of time --- as a LOT of times the opening lead etc are dependant on the BIDDING sequence -- so forcing an opening bid of 3NT is silly   :P :)
  12. HI Jilly -- I am SO sorry that you are having problems with a"private" BBO club -- BUT to be honest it really doesn't surprise me at all - :P Have you reported (to abuse @ ) the fact that your membership of the club in question has been terminated? Have you asked for your money back from the club? And question to BBO management IF jilly is correct in saying that private clubs have the right NOT to communicate with "free" tourney directors -- WHY is that so??
  13. Trust Partner and PASS -- his X is penalty
  14. Hog -- I really hope you end up in a place where internet access id terrific -- then we will still hear from you with pithy comments in these forums :D Regardless -- enjoy the next adventure in your life -- Jackie
  15. ITA :D P can take it out if he doesn't like the look of NT -- IMO all I am showing is a few points and ONE D stopper
  16. for the sake of partnership harmony I pass -- as I do not have a good enough reason to pull it :)
  17. IF it's THIRD hand please don't even post it here ;) The 'best friends' of ANY criminal always say "he/she was the 'put your own nicest adjective' person I have ever known" so I find the fact that you "KNOW" that "these people are the last people on this planet that would ever cheat!" is a totally subjective valuatation ( WHICH I hasten to add may very well be right -- who the h*** knows?) IF you REALLY suspect (after playing a LOT of boards against ONE pair) where they trully seem to have had a remarkable run of success against the odds -- PLEASE report them to the relevant authority (HERE in BBO is abuse@u know where) BUT please DO NOT make accusations in the public domain
  18. LOL Hog -- but mostly over 1M -2anything - a X is usually negative --- so I really believe it should be alerted as PENALTY double ;) and in USA I BELIEVE which are not "usual" should be alerted --- (USA players please correct me if I am misunderstanding ACBL regs) Here in OZ I have been advised the same -- to alert calls which are different from 'normal' so the way my P and I play Precision 1NT (13-15) - 2(D/H) as transfer -2X (transfer suit) 3X (another suit) ALERT --- means we have FOUR cards in transfer suit and FIVE in second suit ---- the OPPOSITE to what most players would expect
  19. since when is 1♠ 1NT 2 (ONLY 2)♥ a JUMPSHIFT!! as I understand 2/1 the 2♥ only shows <16 points and 5/4 ♠/♥ (or I am misunderstanding 2/1??) As hands lie (and bidding stated ) I PASS 2♥ blink:  ;)
  20. WOW what a "unusual" decision from N who was an EXPERT ? 1. P has made a NEG double and you decide to PASS! even with a VOID in the opps suit? UNBELIEVABLE 2. If I was declared at 2♥X and went down I would have called director and fully expected him to adjust score (assuming that ACBL directors expect ALL players to play to ACBL regulations ) 3. IF director didn NOT adjust score I would report him to BOTH abuse @ u know where AND to ACBL FINALLY This is why I really believe ANY online tourney should NEVER count towards ranking points in country competitions ( like ABCL) becaues it is SO EASY to "cheat" playing online and accumulate (eg) ABCL points -- especially if there a LOT of tables playing
  21. will NEVER double so HAVE to bid 1♠ because it best describes my hand (and in f2f if challenged will say "sorry P I had a ♣ in with my ♠s" --- just joking ;) )
