  1. Biggest problem with your suggestion is the fact that the answers have to be in accordance with all the conventions of BBO Advanced (including some that "nonexperts" like me have never even heard of  and even { reading this thread} that the experts sometimes say the impementation of which depends on partnership agreement!
  2. Hey Richard, that's also a little harsh. Have you ever looked at Richard Pavlicek's bidding polls? Although they allow only the simplest conventions, I enjoy them more than any other bidding poll out there (with the exception of BBO poll, of course! :P), because he chooses excellent judgement problems. And some 1000s regular participants seem to agree (among them quite a few names more famous than you and me)! About "Master Solver" -- no I certainly don't qualify for that, as otherwise you would have read about my tournament results in Bridge World. Arend I too enjoy Pavelic's polls (and normally respond to them) and his system is much more simple therefore gets a LOT of responses I believe However I do agree that BBO is entitled to use whatever system they choose and since Ben posted the system I am TRYING to use it :P However is the purpose of the poll here for "EXPERTS" only? -- because HONESTLY although I COULD look up all the conventions that's (to my mind anyway) not much fun  {mainly because I do not play at a level where I really need to learn a raft of new conventions which my senior brain would have trouble remembering  } As I asked earlier in this thread -- would it be possible to see what the panelists would bid if playing BBO Standard?? -- maybe really instructive for a person like me and maybe others as well -- who MAYBE don't want to play ALL the "bells and whistles" of what to me is more than (to quote hrothgar) "a very short simple system"but "BBO Adv is much too vague" [seems contradictory statements tho ;) ]
  3. NO I don't double --- the opps have freely bid a game (so why give away the trump position ?) and I lead my Partner's suit  namely 8♥
  4. WOW -- I would NOT have bid 4♦ but an immediate 4♠ (i dont play FP btw ;) )---- and put opps th the guess (rather than set up a FP situation where I now have to guess what to do )
  5. Helene -- in Precision the 1♣ opening does NOT promise clubs (and unless playing ALL relay bids-- which I don't know so can't say what the rest of the bids mean) -- the 1♠ is is 8+ with 5+♠ --- and this establishes a GF sequence, and the 2♥ is not a reverse  AS to the 1♣ 1♠ 2♥ sequence I believe it to be a GF hand as there are many other ways to show a hand with 5♣ and 4♥(presumably) depending on the range of NT you have agreed on
  6. I too double ( NOT a GF though) --- I can't give up on finding a 4/4 Major -- and we will be OK in 4♣ if that's ALL P can bid
  7. I'm leading Q♦ --- first rule is to TRUST partner -- he doubled for a D lead so lead on I will
  8. WHy not DOUBLE first - then over whatever P bids (probably 1♠) bid 2♥--- showing 17+ and a H suit :) If you don't like the 2♥ then bash 3NT ;)
  9. I voted for weak 2♦ BUT to tell the truth I wish there had been a "neither of above" available :) :)
  10. Yes I think you were extremely lucky :o Opening 4♠ on that hand vul could have landed you minus 800 /1100!!-- which would be a bad result (unless opps have a slam) :D Personally I would have passed - Partner still has a bid - and I prefer my opening 4 to show a MUCH better suit and no other possible suit to play -- and it also preserves partnership trust :D
  11. I guess you mean that you responded 4♣? Without seeing the specific hands -- and the vul I suppose you could have responded 2♣ but IMHO partner is incorrect saying you can't jump to 4 :D in fact you might have considered 5♣ :D
  12. I am totally confused - are N/S bidding ALL short suits first? 1.assuming that the 1♠ is OK ( even though the Diamonds are longer) 2. WHY didn't north support them? (or X for the minors OR if he wanted to bid a minor why not 3♣?) So imho NORTH"s 3♦ is the worst bid :(
  13. as we are vul I would hope p would hold 8-11 rather than 6-7 :( I will bid 4♠
  14. playing our variation of Precision 1♥ 11-15 5+♥ 3♣ 16+ 5+ ♣ 3♥ 6 hearts 4♠ Q supporting H as trumps 5♣ A♣ 5♥ -- denies A♦ 6♣ K♣ 6♦ K♦ 7♥
  15. my reg p and I play 1NT 2♥(xfer) 2♠ 3♦ as 4♠and 5♦ and sufficient points for game (opposite a 13-15 NT) -- up to opener where we play
  16. 3♣ for me - P only made a 1 round force and I really don't have enough to play 3NT If P bids 3♠ I then will bid the 3NT and over 3♦ will bid 4♣ as then it's looking like a misfit
  17. I too pass on that auction --- you have a MAX of 15 points playing Precision, and P knows that :D
  18. Me 2 ---- I have never noticed the "food" thingies before reading this ;) I'm actually busy reading the text of the replies WOW Im a 'long flat noodle '
  19. Edited post Sue if you are learning Standard American (regardless of some other's views of that system-- which are immeterial to the question you asked :) ) the differences don't seem much --- but personally I prefer the slightly lower 12-20 suit and 15-17 NT but I will open with a "good" 11 pointer and maybe pass a "bad" 12 points (especially VUL) ... This is a matter of partnership style ( and why a lot of folk will recommend opening on 9+ and maybe NT on 10-13 etc) But IMHO the biggest thing one can do is agree the style and stick to it .... nothing is more destructive to partnerships than total inconsistency
  20. 2C can also be (41)35 in Mark's system. I play Precision and unless the 41(or 14) 3 5 hand had 14/15 with almost all the points in the clubs and majors I would open then 1♦ also
  21. I think it's a good idea to take mouse OFF your intended lead --- review the bidding --- THEN lead :) :) Seriously I am not sure if there is a way to stop 'auto arrange' but if there is I am sure somebody will tell you how :)
  22. I think the FIRST set of BBO poll questions SOMEWHERE the answers that the Panelists gave WERE posted ( but my 'senior' brain can't remember where :) ) Hopefully the panel votes for BBO poll 2 will be posted soon?? -- than I can work out I got about 10 points for all 6 questions :) --- but I did enjoy entering the comp :)
