Have U "upgraded" to 'newer ' versions of BBO ?? As I said to the news that 3.9.9 MIGHT be available to ALL of us soon - I am QUITE happy with 3.9.3 :)
-
Interesting that I am STILL on 3.9.3 and HAPPY with this version - have I actually missed SIX " upgrades" ??? :)

Automatic skip bid warning and delay
bearmum replied to ArcLight's topic in Suggestions for the Software
"Skip " bid warnings are not used all over the world either ! :) SO maybe the delay would be meaningless to anyone who doesn't use them in f2f game -
well I am assuming that RHO was dealer  I will overcall 2♦ HOWEVER if LHO was dealer and it was P P 1♠ THEN I am PASSING

NO problem with directory BUT I don't like the idea that email addresses be added UNLESS (maybe) folks have no objections having their email addresses freely available

defensive bidding against NT
bearmum replied to aisha759's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
well ONLINE I find that the TWO most popular defences are Capp and DONT - I actually prefer Capp against weak NT and DONT V strong NT  I KNOW there are "better" defences (and most have been mentioned by those who play them ;) ) but in general I find that (at least in a 24-30 board f2f tourneyas opposed to a BBO tourney [normally 12 boards MAX!!]) that there will possibly be one board where you WISHED you were playing another defence than the one you have agreed  I normally don't inquire as to what overcalls P plays UNLESS they are specified on his/her profile - then I can say "I can play/not play *** " convention on your profile P" :) -
As I don't play "leaping Michaels" I will just double and bid the appropriate no of ♣'s at my next turn

With a seven loser hand opposite a LIMIT raise surely 2♠ is the correct bid ?? IF partner is stronger than a limit raise HE can proceed :)
-
As my reg p in f2f and another weekly partner online (playing different systems I might add) BOTH play RONF over weak 2 Majors in ALL cases I would play the 2M 5M jump as PURELY premptive With a possible slam hand there must be several ways to discover partner's range and strength
-
well I guess you were unlucky that your partner had not realised that it is not NORMALLY a good idea for a premptor to bid again (LET alone TWICE) I think your passes were entirely reasonable as I too would have expected that 5♦ might be a better spot for opps then if I had doubled 4♠ ( so why let them have a free ride to find it ??) However indys are notoriously difficult to play in - so if I choose to play them I just hope to meet a few reasonable players and take NO notice of the results ( they are rather like lotteries and you lose FAR more times than you win  )

I have forum bookmarked on my "favorites" list - EASY to find that way :D I too think there are fewer NEW posters who continue to post consistently - MAYBE because (IMHO) there are a few longtime posters who SEEM only to post to one another on most topics which may deter 'newbies' from continuing to contribute to discussions

Guess your partner didn't follow your SPECIFIC agreements ( 2♥ in the bidding shows 6+♥ AND (MY emphasis) 12-15 ) SO allowing his opening bid MAYBE should have been 2♥ --- he then correctly picked your 4♣ bid agreeing hearts he should NOT pass your 4♠ (IMHO)--- he should bid 5♣ then u can sign off in 5♠ ??? what I REALLY meant was you could sign off in five  ♥
-
double (TOO STRONG for 2NT) I figure he will pick me for a reasonably strong hand, and even if ALL he has are 4+ ♠ will NOT pass for penalty but bid 2NT SAME thing @ IMPS

sounds like this Partner(like your last ) hasn't heard a pretty good rule about prempter not bidding again unless FORCED to by his p :o I guess that's why INDY'S are a lottery ( and I agree that one can meet SO many of the same players that MAYBE the software has a glitch of some kind making it NOT truly random??) Having said that I find them a fun thing to play and take NO notice of the result --- and occasionally ( if playing a 2 board INDY) I have met played with some LOVELY folks :)

sounds like this Partner hasn't heard a ptetty good rule about prempter not bidding again unless FORCED to by his p :o BUT to bid his suit TWO times more is SUICIDIAL :) Your passes looked good to me :)

game forcing with diamonds
bearmum replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Guess Partner miscounted his points and opened 1NT with only 14 :o now IF he doesn't open 1NT you NEVER get to 3NT :) -
4♠ - P has passed so give OPPS the choice at 5 level :)
-
Well I guess I bid 2♠ hoping for the 4/4 fit rather than the 4/3 ♥ :D
-
Strange way of bidding --- BUT I will NOT show a card I HAVEN'T got :P If P bids that way (instead of q bidding after I support ♥) I would suppose he/she is looking specifically for the Q♥ -- probably with the idea of bidding 7 IF I have it -- so I am NOT showing it

How to bid this hand in your system?
bearmum replied to cf_John0's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
3♦ 6♦ because GS depends on S finesse and I would prefer to bid the small slam -
Don't think it's allowed to have THIS type of "understanding" UNLESS it's alerted by the person bidding 3NT ;) DIRECTORS please adjudicate

Should this 1nt be downgraded?
bearmum replied to jillybean's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
ALWAYS open a 15-17 hand 1NT - NO MATTER what position u are - that way YOU limit your hand and MORE importantly your P knows your point range ;) IF you open the quoted hand 1♦ WHAT do u bid over pards 1♥ or 1♠?? -
